I've thought about motorizing one. There's one thing to consider though - they say in the manual not to motorize them because the gearing can't handle the speed. The torque, sure, but too much speed can set up vibrations that wreck them. I don't know if it's true, and if so, maybe only if you're RPMmming the shit out of them. I'll get around to trying it with a cheap chain fall some day..
Ye for sure it will probly wreck it at some point but iv had no problems so far,I do spray some Moto chain lube in it and only use low speed on the drill,so far it’s been a dream and Ye iv only done it to the cheap shit eBay ones they are 3ton versions good luck cheers mate
They come with a 1.5 mete (5 foot) chain. Barely long enough for trees. I bought extra 4m chains for mine. Make sure whatever you buy can be specct with a longer chain or at least comes with a standard size chain so you can aquire longer lengths later if the stock length proves too short. Mine had an oddball size only available from the maker, and the extra chain was nearly the same price as the unit.
@@RememberTheSlapFilms Thanks mate. Yeah, it arrived the day before last, and I ordered one with a 6m chain. When I went to lift the box from the front door, it surprised me with the weight, it was a lot heavier than I anticipated . 28kg the box said. Now I’ve gotta man-handle that into the bush to get to the trees I’m after 😅
@@Seedyrom247 nice 👍 be sure to get any twist out of the chain before you pull - just get it lightly tensioned so the chain is taught but not strained, then rotate the swivel hook end (or the unit itself) so there's no twist in the chain. If there's twist and it's loaded up with a ton of pull, it can put torsional forces on the chain links, which it's not designed for. Can weaken and damage a chain like that.
@@Seedyrom247 The KITO LB series 1.6 tons weighs 8 kg with a 1.5 m chain. A 1.5 m chain weighs 1.7 kg, so with a 6 m chain, it will weigh 13.1 kg. You must have bought a large model, probably 3.2 tons.
@@yaykruser Brand : Rema, it's dutch but I think the hoist is made in china. I didn't find any "Made in china" label actually. Previously I bought a chinese model on Amazon but it was broken during delivery. The problem is those things are heavy almost 25 kg for mine, so if you drop it ...
@@somedude3423 wow,25kg ?! The planeta ones are 15kg for 3200kg. But they are a premium brand coming at a higher price. Also 50% overload tested. My 5 ton is gonna weight 32kg.
@@yaykruser Yes 25 kg but with a 3 m chain I am not sure the Planeta is realy better, according to their amazon page it looks like a "upper quality" chinese : I wouldn't be surpised if it comes from the same factory as the Rema : If you want better quality you can try the Elephant brand : made in Japan. You can find the 3,1 t 3 m model for less than 400 €. If you have a real hoist fetish 😉 you can go for a YALE standard Uno 750 € same specs. And if you are looking for divorce you can go straight to the Yale C85 with roller chain : more than 1500 €, same specs.
Weld a socket on the main drive gear and use a hole Haag drill with 1/2 socket driver works like a charm iv done it to 2 of them now

@@Sillyryan209 Nice. What kind of drill are you using?
Milwaukee fuel drill and dewalt side angle drill depending on what I’m winching, only ever use slow speed
Sorry it was my sons user name on the other comments I’d made now it’s in my name
Great video. Was just about to buy one for this exact purpose (tree removal).
I was worried about using one sideways. Not anymore.
