Hello everyone, I wanted to clarify a couple things that I either forgot to mention or screwed up entirely in the video.
-A really cool feature of the pedal that I somehow forgot to film or mention is the ability to switch channels with the main footswitch. Just hold it down for a couple seconds, and it changes between ON/OFF to a CLEAN/LEAD switch. Very convenient!
-Some of the B-Roll is extremely shaky thanks to the garbage shake correction on my phone, so I won't be doing that again.
-A couple of the captions are mislabeled in the demo section. I added some reverb and delay to the part where I play the opening riff to Strapping Young Lad's "Love?" but I didn't label it. The first "Randall 4x12 IR" should be a labled "Marshall 4x12 SM57 and Mesa 4x12 SM57 Blend," but the next one is correct.
Saturday's videos also has a couple of errors I will address in a similar manner. Thanks!
Imagine how much more badass it would be if Mooer would have stuck in a mini 5 band graphic eq!
I own a mark III blue stirpe and IMHO it's one of the best sounding amps ever// Super underrated as well! I m looking forward to trying this little guy! Thx for the nice review!
+ios4ever I 100% agree! I'm more of a modelling guy personally, but the blue stripe is one of the few amps that I would probably snatch up if I come across one. Please do tell how the pedal compares, I'm curious as to which revision it was modeled after.
ios4ever I played a mark 4 and goddamn that thing was dry and sharp
@@PlagueScytheStudios After a year owning this pedal, how good it is? Which one should i get for high gain 6 strings e tuning stuff?
7:15 to skip to the demo
Thanks!
Thanks for the great review! You helped push me over the edge on ordering a Fifty Fifty based on the quality of 008. Thanks!
@8:50 Damn-straight!💪 I'm researching this pedal because I love DT's sound and can't afford a mesa atm.
Liked for the Strapping Young Lads riffing
I'm hearing all of the rock/ metal flavours that could be useful from this Mooer preamp pedal from Soundgarden, Sabbath to Metallica, Pantera and Meshuggah. And of course your nailing those riffs! Myself I think Mooer should keep creating more "moo er" hah micro preamp pedals that way others can access the sounds they'd want without having to spend a fortune on the big house gear. I must admit they've done a fine job so far. Great stuff cheers!
The channel button should be footswitchable.
The MkIII has 3 channels, clean, crunch and lead, and has two footswitches. One to switch between clean (rythm) and crunch (rythm 2) and the other to turn the lead channel on or off (when you turn it off if goes to the channel you selected with the other footswitch).
You mentioned that you can switch between clean and lead if you hold the main footswitch but, is it possible to switch between crunch and lead?
I own a MkIII and one thing you rarely see is people mentioning how great the crunch channel is when boosted with a tubescreamer, it gives you a effin' thick tone with a lot of distortion.
If you dial in the reverb to around 5 or put a delay on it you can even use it as a lead tone.
Every time I use it that way I wonder why this amp is so underrated.
greate review man! you made me wanna buy that little bad boy !
+Hakan Ateş Happy to hear you enjoyed it!
I predict these will be big!
+Crimson Ghost I certainly hope they are, because I want more of them! It's a great middle ground between accurate amp modelling and affordability
They seem to sound much better than a pod. I want to get the boogie one to run through my silver jubilee. The el34 power amp may get me close to the tones Metallica got when they were slaving Mesas into Marshall's.
+Crimson Ghost Great idea. I'm actually going to cover amp slaving in an upcoming video. Even on my solid state Marshall I can dial in a pretty great Puppets and Justice tone so you should have no problem.
Awesome. Cannot wait to see it!!
I hope so! I bought two of them. The 008 and the 004. Hopefully I can get some great sounds out of it!
Cool review. I subbed. Think imma buy it.
+Adrian Sugrim Thank you! There should be a new line of the pre amp pedals within the next few months, so keep an eye out for them.
How's that southern-metal project going? Are you thinking something like Texas Hippie Coalition? I would love to hear what you're working on. 😊
+Lou Lombardi I have a pretty good demo going, I need to record vocals though. Stay tuned and I will post information when it's ready!
Awesome review 🔥🔥 I fell in love with these pedals, and i plan on getting the 001 diesel or the 009 blacknight. I wanted to ask you, if your amp doesn't have a fx loop, can you run it threw the front of the amp?
+Bboy Arpeggios You technically could, but you will have to seriously compensate for it with your amp's EQ. You might get okay results that way, but it will seriously color the sound of the pedal.
Plague Scythe Studios Super fast response🔥🔥🔥 Thanks for the advice broski 💪😎 I plan on adding the 009 blacknight in the chain of my pedal board. We'll see how things go, I'm really diggin these pedals from 'Mooer'
i would love to see these compared to AMT pedals
I would gladly try it out if I had one haha
you gonna review the other high gain ones as well? really concidering buying one of them, but don't know if I'd go for the 005 or 008
+Diede Kattenberg Unless someone wants to send me a few, I'm only buying this one haha. You can check out Ola Englund's video on these if you want to hear the 005, it sounds dead on a 5150 to me. I nearly bought that one.
Hey Ryan, do you reckon this would work as a it should through an effects switching system like the Boss ES8 via the 4 cable method, if I ordered the mooer input to be in the FX loop portion? Thanks in advance, digging the channel as always.
It would, I'm planning something similar for a future board myself.
@@arghyadeepmitra3615 Any update on that? I'm dying to know haha. Do you have an ES-8?
It's not inbuilt IR. It's just cab em, done using EQ (basically, a few other tricks you find in non-IR loader Cab Em units such as Neunaber). I run mine into an IR loader and they sound good. One goes to a Delay>Rotary Pedal>Baby Bomb Power Amp >Bassbreaker 112 Cab loaded with a V-Type for an onstage "faux Rotary" cab. When I have to DI with IRs to FOH, it's great having a real cab onstage and engaging the Rotary (Tech 21 Rotochoir) is magic. It's my "fake" Gilmour/SRV/Kim Thayall trick.
I'd rather use my valve amps in wet/dry but we live in terrible times, so I make do and get creative with the modeling, etc.
Agreed on the MkIII. It's the best Mesa.
I had to sell my '91 Mark IV head so I'm really curious to see if I can recover some of that sound- for such a small price....
Shewolf!? That's a rare Megadeth riff ;)
+Shadow Giratina's Evil Clone I didn't think anyone would get that one, nice catch! There are dozens of us that liked Cryptic Writings. Dozens!!!
I know it's a bit late, but I was wondering if you could do some Metallica tones with this? I imagine a 5-band EQ pedal could get something pretty close to their IIC+ sound
I ordered the MKIV SHOULD HAVE IT BY FRIDAY..
What do you think of it? I just ordered that same one today. Hope I made a good choice
How good the pedal is?
and justice
Have you tried the 017 MkIV?
thank u very much .very nice demo.i wish to buy one but got stuck between 008 n 009.for metal chugga type sound which one will be better to buy.plz suggest
+Arkava Goswami I think the 008 is more versatile genre-wise, since I play everything from sabbath to southern rock to 8 string material. For metal only, the 009 would probably be my pick.
Plague Scythe Studios thank u alot brother
As far as I know they pronounce it like 'more'.
+DerEchteBold I've seen videos of journalists saying it both ways right in front of Mooer representatives, so I have no idea haha
I have one of those. It make so much noise
liked & subscribed!
great reviews dude, keep up the great stuff til u have ur own randall satan lol
Thank you! I'll be reviewing a product tomorrow or Saturday that has appeased my appetite for a Satan, stay tuned! ;)
Thank you! I was able to make a patch that is almost identical to the Satan over the weekend, I will share it soon! Although, I would still love the real deal haha.
How does this Mooer 008 behave with a High gain pedal in front of it?
What if you wanted to send it tbrough the front of an old marshall head that has no return loop?in other words, what If i wanted to have it in a pedal chain going into the front of amp seeing as I use my marshall with the preamp set low for clean so that its a platform for pedals???
Ryan can these preamps with the bomb amp running through a 2x12 attain decent bedroom volumes without losing tone? Seeking a good solution rather than shaking my house with Laney GH100L😂
The Baby Bomb gets uncomfortably loud before distorting, so it could potentially be overkill for a strictly bedroom application. Maybe one of those low wattage EH pedals or even a Joyo BantAmp could fill the gap.
Ordered an EH 5MM will let you know how it performs thanks again for your help!!
What pickups do you usually use?
Whats the Mesa 412 impulse you're using?
Its one of the Mesa Brohymn impulses, found here:
www.ultimatemetal.com/forum/threads/my-new-mesa-4x12-v30-sm57-impulses.407369/
what do you think if this pedal is used to play punk music like "hi-standard" "nofx" "rancid" "bad religion" and others
+Rawshanfikr Ayyasy I know fuck all about punk besides the stereotypical pairing of a Gibson guitar and Plexi half stack. There's likely a pedal in this line that will work for you regardless of genre though.
Plague Scythe Studios thanks dude, i'm looking for a dashing sound for my guitar sound, what about AMT R1 and hotone hertattack? does it have the same sound? and better which of the three is?
Whats the Megadeth song he plays again??
Time stamp it and I will tell you I cant find it lol
You look like a little girl but with metal hair and a "beard" somehow.
I love the channel btw.
Sounds good. Way too silly, small.
y on all these videos do u have the bass turned way down making it sound tinny as hell?
when anything is played through an ir or cab sim its useless, could care less about how that sounds... even a cellphone recording an actual amp and speakers is better than damn sims
