Price charming was the very first album I bought at the tender age of 5. Well, mum and dad bought it at my request. I just loved the album art… about 43 years later I am a drummer and drum teacher and I have these guys to thank. I remember this time so vividly, the 80’s were a magical time for a 5 year old.. those times are gone forever but I was so lucky to experience it. Adam was brilliant and I will forever be thankful to him and the band for being around and influencing me ❤️

Had my first dose of Antmania at age 15 when a girlfriend brought an issue of a UK teen girl's magazine back from her summer vacation "over 'ome". I loved the attire the whole band wore in their comic book adventures. They reflected my passion for sewing and wearing costumes. I saved up babysitting money for months to buy my first pair of thigh high brown leather boots. I felt otherworldly when I wore them to high school with my pirate shirt and jacquard vest. I didn't care if the other students thought I was odd; jeans, Miami pastels and day-glo brights were not my style. Finally, I saw a performer who reflected my inner warrior. I still hadn't heard one single song but I knew it had to be good if the visuals were any indication. It took almost a year to convince the local record store to bring in an Adam and the Ants album, despite my weekly requests. When Prince Charming showed up as an import, I had to pay twice the price but it was finally here. I couldn't wait to get home and put in on the turntable. (My mother's only comment was "What do you call that for music?" I said, "Mine!!) Prince Charming wasn't at all what I was expecting. It was so much more; sexy, primal, drum-driven and Marco's guitar. It was SO completely different from the pap on the radio. I was in LOVE with the band; their sound, the imagery, the lyrics and those wonderful drums! At the time I was too young and shy to experiment with boys; none to chose from and too far from any city where there was a 'scene' where emerging impulses could be danced away. I felt like I was sitting on the sidelines of something monumental yet to be uncovered.(Oh, the years before the internet and RUclips were so frustrating.) When the next album arrived, it was Dirk Wears White Socks. Egad! My brain lit up! It was a whole other world of imagery and I knew I'd found something that truly resonated with my soul. Sadly, it was decades (and one marriage) before I found a fetish scene that allowed me finally explore some of the ideas HE put in my head but the wait was worth it. I now had words to describe the feelings his music aroused in me. It was liberating!!! Although only Puss In Boots ever got local radio play I was ecstatic every time I heard it. I still get up and dance when it comes up on my playlist. Adam Ant opened up an entire side of my personality and freed me from some old-fashioned thinking; women can be playful, sexy and fun. Adam said so and I, to this day, believe him!!
That's a fantastic comment. So glad you identified with him and their music, which clearly boosted and shaped the inner you. It's pure magic when that occurs, and it cannot be bottled nor manufactured. X
Once upon a time I imagined myself after high school at 18 on a plane to England to meet him and woo him into loving me and being my husband. He is by far still my very favorite artist. He remains all talent, even in his mental despair he had flair. I love you Adam, keep going until you can't. Love, Jenny
Oh, another reason I have been watching this so often is I watch Adam's facial expressions, body movement, THIS DUDE IS HAVING THE TIME OF HIS LIFE IN THIS VIDEO. I try to syphon his happiness into myself these days.
Just saw Adam Ant at The Greek in LA. Great show. I was in Jr. High in the early 80s when I was introduced to his music. I had a friend who was obsessed and dressed like Adam, had all the albums, posters, magazine covers... and this exact concert on a bootleg VHS! Very underrated music!
This definitely deserves a proper dvd release. A lesson to all those bands these days that get on stage wearing plain t-shirts and jeans. Really looking forward to Kings in June.
Amazed I just ran across this. Great music in my collection from back in the day, high school. So talented. Time to break out the albums. Fan… freakin’ tastic!!!!
I remember watching this when it first came out and I was a teenager….made my grandfather watch it with me as I regaled him with how much I was in love with Adam Ant😂😂
Brilliant show, I went to see the Prince Charming Revue at the Dominion Theatre in London on the 21st and 24th December 1981 and I have seen plenty of other people’s shows since then but this is the best one and have seen him 7 times through the years.
i had a video disc player and this show was one of the very few musical discs i got it in 83 or 84. Now 3 husbands later Adam has not changed, and neither has my love for this. The show that's coming this year I need to go see. 44 years ago. love you, Adam and the ants
Adam and the ants are performers and put on a great concert but more of a show Awesome! I saw Adam ant in concert in the 80's the Strip Tour it was an awesome performance most of the audience was dressed up as the Adam and the ants it was amazing and fun! Long live Ant music!
This is show-biz at its best! What a wonderful creation..super talented, everything that's missing from pop music today - real imagination performed with conviction and belief...love the Ants
Linda Redmond Stuart Goddard's story is quite something..had no idea about the extent of his troubles with mental health, documentary well made with him in it talking openly, very generous for others who suffer.. Think its called 'The madness of Prince Charming' if you haven't seen, loads of footage in it..take care!
+Josh Rawlinson Have you read his autobiography? It's fascinating, candid, honest and humble. He comes across as a really decent person who has had more than his fair share of trouble to deal with. Well worth a read.
+Jon Loomes Folk Songs Hi Jon, no I haven't read his autobiography, but I will look out for it, thanks, anyone who has really suffered tends to find some sort of humility I think its safe to say..! Stay safe my friend, Josh
Yeah its great stuff but like he says in his book he should have stayed with the Kings of the wild frontier look and image one year longer. within 6 months he did this and people was a little bit taken by surprise. Prince Charming is a rather weak album also...sorry to say.
A true artist. His way of dealing with his bipolar comes out in his performing, music, clothes. He is an extremely intelligent and interesting person. Loved him then and love him now.
Hi Kayla......I understand!! It's my son Paul who uploaded this....and believe me....BOTH of my sons don't understand my obsession!! Glad you are enjoying it! X
He was my idol when Kings of the Wild Frontier came out, but when Prince Charming hit the shelves...Oh my god! I was at that perfect age, loved new romantic and punk and anything different and i loved men that were not afraid to wear makeup and look "Dandy". He is still amazing in 2017, touring and looking great. He was truly original, I mean..who else would mix the different sounds that he did?
I literally love EVERYTHING about this. Pop, dandy, punk, panto..with maybe the prettiest face I've ever seen fronting the whole thing with boundless energy and sex appeal. Its too much frankly, shouldn't be allowed lol. Love Adam Ant, wish I'd been alive at the time so I could've gone *sigh*
Ber & Kayla - He was the "Elvis" of the '80's! I don't know who, today, could compare. I saw him when I was 21 in 1984, and my sister & I have been obsessed since! I don't know what it is about him, he exudes SOMETHING that gets to us girls! :)~
My first ever single was Prince Charming in 1981 when I was 9. I had the album for Christmas that year and then promptly went back and bought Kings of the Wild Frontier soon after which I liked even more. He was my first true pop idol and inspires me still today over 40 years later. True icon and legend.
I got into English band XTC beginning at Drums and Wires, contemporaries of AA. Neither one was New Wave skinny tie music but had a style all their own. That’s why it holds up so well.

Legend! saw him in oc a few years ago.. saw him in london at the Matthew Ashman tribute... seeing him again on friday. some people are just born to stand on stage with a mic. uncompromising. inspiring. professional. artist. gentleman.
I was 12 or 13 when they toured Australia and me and my best friend took a 6 hour bus trip to see them perform and the next day we went to their hotel and they signed autographs and took pictures with us and were incredibly nice to us 2 fan/nerds
Oh wow, I never knew there was a video recording of this tour! It's brilliant, thanks for uploading. I went to this tour, at the Cornwall Coliseum show in December 1981 in Par, near St Austell, Cornwall. This video is bringing back such great memories. I'd been to their other tour earlier that year too, the Stand And Deliver tour, at the same venue. These were the first two concerts I'd ever been to. My friend and I went dressed up like Adam, with red feathers in our hair, red sashes around our waists, frilly shirts, ankle boots with fringes and red feathers sewn onto them, skull and crossbone earings, white stripes across our noses, the full works! Lol. We must have looked a right mess but we had an amazing time! Fun days. :)
As a youngster I remember looking at the Kings of the Wild Frontier album cover and thinking what the hell what's that. Visually It fascinated me! The music was so wonderfully weird and myself being a wanna be drummer and the band with two drummers! Heaven. Although this looks like a kind of showcase with an empty theatre and overdubbed applause+crowd it is a live testimony of the band's talent. Thanks for the upload.
Proving yet again how unfair life is, because I was too young to truly appreciate what a great artist Adam was. Thank gods he's still around and as 'talented' as ever.
13 years of age all decked up with war paint and dressed up my friend Stu and I went to Leeds to see this concert.. I Loved it and nothing has come close to beating this live performance...
Thoroughly enjoyed every minute of this, thanks for the upload. All consummate performers showing great skill and flair, Adam Ant and his band gave 110%. Everything worked in sync, pretty brilliant really. One of the best looking men ever to grace a stage anywhere.
The thing most unusual & appealing to me about this band, besides the costuming & asexual Adam, of course, was the underlying nod to Native Americans, the respect, the chanting, war calls & the DRUMS. They were the only REAL Americans. Marco, responsible for much of the music, is pure genius ! Caught these blokes live in L.A. every time they graced our shores. A one in a million band ! This was them at their epitome.
Layne Horwitz you might be interested to learn how not only Adam’s love for 18th Century History inspired their aesthetic and sound, but how Malcolm McLaren’s image and fashion recommendations inspired much of it as well. There are some vids up where he and Adam talk about it in interviews. “Think of pirates; think of Geronimo.” Also the influence of then-hot Burundi drumming, which can also be heard in another McLaren band, Bow Wow Wow. Lots of bizarre combinations, but a huge part of Adam’s genius is he somehow put it all together and made it work and it was glorious. And I don’t believe Johnny Depp has said much publicly about who inspired Jack Sparrow other than to say Keith Richards inspired the voice, but there’s not a doubt in my mind he was heavily influenced by Adam.
I saw this show but I remember the logo being projected onto the screen at the beginning and Adam walking through the screen, it was amazing would love to see that bit again
The first thing of his (theirs) I'd ever seen and I was HOOKED. Love the double drums, his voice, moves, ALL of it. Saw him last night and still Amazing.
Ihave loved that guy and he has inspired me to not listen to people who told me what I couldn't do since I hit puberty. And you know what? Not listening to people who always want to tell me what I can't do, and keep accomplishing things, after I've done it, and they tell me it can't be done....thank you Adam. You were myreality check as a young teen. I keep accomplishing things that people tell me I can't do, after I've already done them, or find people who can help me make them happen. I wanted to be a tough girl. I guess I thought I was bigger than I thought I was. Lol. I guess im a small tough ex wife. But thank you. I have loved your music for a very long time. When things were bad, I had your music in the back of my head. Thank you so much for all your music.
Getting your first pubic hair is great. I remember when I first got mine, I noticed these two or three hairs when I was taking a shower. They just kept coming in after that. Pimples and voice cracks soon followed.
Just had my double nickels in February. 55.. so excited that I'm going to see my man in 2 weeks! Had pictures of him plastered all over my teenaged bedroom. .
Every single f'ing thing about him drips sex. I bet I hit puberty just from watching this damn thing on Nicolodean. "The Ants Invasion" is one of the best un-loved songs he ever did. Listening to NIN do a remake of his on a hidden track was one of the highlights of my life. Talent recognizes talent.
Dawn Croft I saw two of his shows in the early 80s and both were excellent. Well done, lots of fun. Musically excellent. And yes, original and very sexy. It was quite beautiful. He really was great with the Ants and shortly thereafter. Enjoyable memories.
Ants Invasion has always been one of my absolute favourite Ant songs, absolute gold... followed by Killer is not too shabby either. They nailed Don’t Be Square in this, was loving that. There hasn’t been anything like this that i am aware of ever since and it was glorious stuff. Dirk Wears White Sox is also one of my favourite albums of all time
Soooooo...01.01.23, listening to this as a grown up. I was in my mid teens when I fell in love with this guy and his band. Listening to all his albums on RUclips tonight, don't know why, realising how young and vibrant I once was without having any idea that I was! Oh what I would give to have that knowledge and go back in time. This sent me on in later years to listen to Siouxsie and the banshees, the cure and Prince to name a few. Funny story: when I was 14 I fell out with my best mate over an argument about who loved him the most! I think it took us about 9 months to make it up again. I had a fantasy, after watching him on TISWAS that I would win a competition to meet him for a meal on some beautiful rooftop restaurant, at dusk, in London, and he would fall in love with my scintillating conversation, (14 remember!). He would whisk me off for walks in the woods and we would have meaningful conversations and we would live happily ever after. I definitely had a 'type' after him. He-he-he-he-he-heh.
getting ready to see him this Wednesday....saw him in 1993 but can only dream that I had seen him in the 80's. I dressed Adam Ant Prince Charming-style for Halloween when I was 16 and the Prince Charming album cover was duplicated on my 16th birthday cake. Oh, another reason I have been watching this so often is I watch Adam's facial expressions, body movement, THIS DUDE IS HAVING THE TIME OF HIS LIFE IN THIS VIDEO. I try to syphon his happiness into myself these days.
I need help. I can't stop watching this.
same here... I've been glued to this for days now
Just saw Adam Ant at The Greek in LA.
Its like an Ant opera. So theatrical, full of energy, you cannot take your eyes off of him. Hypnotic
That's why youtube is so good : a memory of all we could'nd see .
Historical shows.
Amazing moments
Greatest entertainer of all time. I named my son after him.
LOL.... poor son :D
tell me you named him Adam Ant and not just Adam?? lol
Stuart.
Neen88 his name is stuart
Anthony ?????
I remember watching this when it first came out and I was a teenager….made my grandfather watch it with me as I regaled him with how much I was in love with Adam Ant😂😂
Brilliant show, I went to see the Prince Charming Revue at the Dominion Theatre in London on the 21st and 24th December 1981 and I have seen plenty of other people’s shows since then but this is the best one and have seen him 7 times through the years.
Brilliant glam punk (fusion of glam rock and punk). Always loved them. Not a dull moment in this show.
i had a video disc player and this show was one of the very few musical discs i got it in 83 or 84.
Absolutely AGREE!!!
They say he is bipolar but he seems adhd to me
Hi Kayla......I understand!!
Long live our Dandy Highway Man!...Viva Prince Charming!.O:-) Tally Ho!....
Mendy Gentry 1984 I was 18 years old I remember
Saw him in 1984 in Seattle when I was 17. I felt very lucky! Will love him always! 👍❤️
They made the 80's such a blast!!!! What entertainers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great fun!
Absolutely gorgeous, talented songwriter and what a vocal! Massive fan x
Adam Ant is most handsome man I ever seen!!! 😍❤️💋
I'm 61
I remember. Strangest punk rocker of all. That's saying much.
I'm 64years now!And back in the 1970s and 1980s we saw 👀 😤 😎 😏 🎶 😳 on "American Bandstand " with Dick Clark as TV 📺 😑 🤣 😜 😒 😉 host! Like 👍 👌 🔥 💯 %!😀 😄 👍 👌 🔥 WOW 👌 👏 😍 👍 🥰 ☺️ 👌 👏 😍 👍 🥰 ☺️ HE'S SO SEXY 😍 😘 😉 😜 ❤️ 💕!
What a fantastic live band they were, so complex the arrangements, nothing sounded like them at the time and since. Its almost prog-pop. Great stuff
Just have to say ANOTHER HUGE THANK YOU...for posting this...I watch it literally every night to fulfill my obsession...my hubby on the other hand not so happy haha...especially every time I giggle at :50 into picasso... OMG Adam gives good face! Still does, got to see him last month WAS AMAZING....would give anything to have been able to see him live in his prime...so again THANK YOU!
I did that my self back in the day. My husband didn't like my obsession either. He's gone now but my obsessin is still with me.
perfect live adam does not stop sooo good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
total commitment
absolute talent.
Thank you Mr. Murphy--what a gift this is to all of us Ant People! Adam is one of the most gifted and original rockers of all time, so happy to have been an 80's club girl!
He's a great showman and concerts were full of energy. I love watching the old videos, he's my idol from my late teens and early 20's. What a hottie!!
Legend! saw him in oc a few years ago.. saw him in london at the Matthew Ashman tribute... seeing him again on friday. some people are just born to stand on stage with a mic. uncompromising. inspiring. professional. artist. gentleman.
How awesome is this, can't believe I'm only just watching it now!!!
Dammit, I love him!!!
yes!
babycaaakes me to .he is soooo sexy
The most gorgeous talented man in music, today’s ‘stars’ need to take notes from this man!
Can’t blame you, he’s awesome!
Fun days. :)
Anyone listening in 2023? I heard them when I was 6/7 years old. Still here 30+ years later
Still here in 2024! Reading his autobiography too.
>Checkerboard floor.
Can I enjoy ANYTHING? 😅😅
Also, thanks so much for posting. Footage is incredible.
Exactly my thoughts but gave it a pass this time and loved every minute of this show...
talent and eye candy
I heard he's back to performing. If that's true, I'm so happy for him. He's over come so many obstacles and he deserves to be back. Rock on, Adam Ant.
I am going to see him in concert next year, cant bloody wait, worth the 40 year wait
Wonderful Era of the pop music.
I just crumble when I hear and see this man! One talented guy, an amazing artist back then and still today! Ants 🐜 rule! 💜
13 years of age all decked up with war paint and dressed up my friend Stu and I went to Leeds to see this concert.. I Loved it and nothing has come close to beating this live performance...
Thank you for this post!!! I remember when MTV broadcast this recording in the 80s. I am a huge ANT fan! it was so awesome! Thank you again!
Feel blessed to have seen this incredible man twice -- this & the Strip tour. Oh to have my youth back!!
Please share details of the concerts...
I've seen him 4 times as a 10 year old he's still and always will be incredible
A rock and roll king in his prime, with a 1st class entourage of brilliant musicians. Unbeatable.
Love Adam and the Ants. 80s forever!❤
The human beings taught me many tribe names I'd never had heard of
Layne Horwitz you might be interested to learn how not only Adam’s love for 18th Century History inspired their aesthetic and sound, but how Malcolm McLaren’s image and fashion recommendations inspired much of it as well.
Layne H "asexual" means "without sex." Adam was full-on sexuality! That was part of his appeal! He was a gorgeous sexy man! Loved how he moved!
Definitely not ace! He was doing all the sexuals and pretty scandalous at the time! One of the many reasons why I loved him.. ahead of most.
@@hangoverladhuman beings is one of me favorites..
Left foot Pawnee Cheyenne ho.. Apache Arapaho ❤
my 12 year old self was not wrong -- 40+ years later, I'm still feeling him.
I remember watching this when it came on MTV and was mystified. Have every album on vinyl. Great showman!!
Me to. I was like 11 or 12 and I knew their music but had no idea how awesome they were live
I saw this show but I remember the logo being projected onto the screen at the beginning and Adam walking through the screen, it was amazing would love to see that bit again
JCS954 how many changes of outfits he had
3
I don't remember hearing about this in America! Does anyone know if it was shown on American tv?
Adam..my first musical ❤
The first thing of his (theirs) I'd ever seen and I was HOOKED. Love the double drums, his voice, moves, ALL of it. Saw him last night and still Amazing.
To go back in time and see this badass show...thank heavens someone had the idea to record it at least!
I saw the review on Jan 3rd 1982 at the Apollo in Manchester, this takes me right back
Ihave loved that guy and he has inspired me to not listen to people who told me what I couldn't do since I hit puberty.
Anyway I am seeing Adam live in Manchester next year for my 50th birthday xxx happy birthday to me 🥰😍🤩😘
Just had my double nickels in February. 55.. so excited that I'm going to see my man in 2 weeks!
Talent recognizes talent.
lol. Nice Jamis
Dawn Croft I saw two of his shows in the early 80s and both were excellent. Well done, lots of fun. Musically excellent. And yes, original and very sexy. It was quite beautiful. He really was great with the Ants and shortly thereafter. Enjoyable memories.
+Barbara Narby Lucky you, very envious.
Ants Invasion has always been one of my absolute favourite Ant songs, absolute gold... followed by Killer is not too shabby either. They nailed Don’t Be Square in this, was loving that. There hasn’t been anything like this that i am aware of ever since and it was glorious stuff. Dirk Wears White Sox is also one of my favourite albums of all time
Agreed on Ants Invasion. I love that song.
A fantastic band ; Adam at the top with his best line up ever ! Nostalgia !
Love this concert - great mix of the Prince Charming and Kings of the Wild Frontier era. Happy memories!
The most mesmerising talented musician , I have watched and rewatched this so many times, just love Adam ant 💕
My first ever concert...haven't seen this in many years....thank u
luckyyyyyy!!!
I've watched this about 40 times... It's perfection. It's the perfect combination of pop concert and theater.
Goodness me, this band was so amazing, and yet so terribly underrated! Thank you so much for posting ❤
Still amazing! A true performer and.... what a voice! Discovered him at 6 years old, courtesy of my brother. It was 1983.
First concert I ever went to too. Thanks for sharing, a proper trip down memory lane.
Please share your experience for those of us who have the great misfortune of never seeing him in concert in he 80s.
Thankyou thankyou for this !! Wonderful most beautiful man alive back then.. was and still is amazing live. X
Best concert ever. Genius.
I saw this in NYC,it was like being in a dream! Beyond outstanding ⭐️❤️🥰🎶
I wish the audio was better. His bass beats are classic
Thank you so much for posting this (I have it on VHS "somewhere"). Cheers!
i would have done anything to be at that show. amazing setlist and adam was the ultimate babe! ugh!!
*Listening in 2024*
