  • An amazing day of R&D - research and development - with Wrestling Resurgence in Nottingham, where we tried out ways of mashing up Shakespeare, wrestling, creative BSL and audio description.
We worked on scenes and relationships in As You Like It, The Taming of the Shrew, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
After getting to grips with Shakespeare's language, we translated it into BSL, which influenced the wrestling choreography.
The main idea behind this project is to get together fans of wrestling, Shakespeare, sport and theatre, for a shared experience of storytelling that's exciting, interactive and accessible to everyone.
Watch this space for further news, including how to get involved in our first ever wrestling event. In the meantime, drop us a line to let us know which of Shakespeare's characters you think should fight in the ring.
Video shot, edited and captioned by Troy Grant. Audio described by Ben Spiller. Featuring Oliver Alvin-Wilson, Georgia Andrews, Sam Beckett Jr, Dr Anna Blackwell, Evie Carey, Stephen Collins, Prof Andy Kesson, John Kirby, Polly Lister, Winona Makanji, Ben Spiller, Paddy Townsley, and Sam West.
Bardcore R&D is supported by the University of Nottingham, House of Pain Wrestling Academy, the Arts and Humanities Research Council, and Friends of 1623.
With special thanks to Professor Hannah O'Regan and Box Office Bears.
