This theme has a classic, iconic sound that is happy and uplifting - alot like Charlie Brown music. To me it had a really unique energy when the program started that is hard to put into words. Was sad when it got replaced. Excellent re-creation!
Yes, it's not just Charlie Brown, it's VINCE GUARALDI up in this b****!! I barely recognize this song from my childhood, unlike other NPR themes, but it's still in a style I really love!
Y'all are never going to believe this...literally the video I was recommended to play next was a lovely 2014 rendition of Linus & Lucy with the last remaining member of the Vince Guaraldi trio! It may be one of my favorite songs, but it's not part of my regular RUclips fare!
1) I'm obsessed with this. 2) I love how the pianist gets a little spicy. 3) I'm imagining Lynne Rossetto Kasper jamming to this while preparing a sensible risotto of fennel and dried shiitake mushrooms.
Thank you! The Splendid Table Twitter account actually tweeted about this video sometime last year! It was right before they changed the music of the show :(.. yes, this theme seems to be no longer!
Thank you! Great performance. I've been willing to buy a full version--and all the incidental bits with the same motif--of this song for a decade but the music isn't available. This performance was worth searching for!
Hi Rob, thank you! I also searched for a version to buy, but it doesn't exist. Unfortunately, I was also unable to get ahold of some licensing in order to release it as a recording myself. So it's just up on RUclips for free!
Wow, this is so much better than the current theme song. This one is light and effervescent like a great champagne. The new one is some stale two buck chuck.
Yes, I too was almost obsessed with this song. I play a two-note-at-a-time simplified version on my piano from time to time because I LOVE what the base and melody have going on together and I especially LOVE the very end. THANK YOU so much for posting this. I've looked for a full recording so many times before. You are obviously VERY talented too, you and your band. Thank you!
Thanks so much for taking the time to do this, I think your arrangement is perfect. Such an underrated song, so wish it was still their theme, or somewhere else.
Cynthia Hamilton Thanks for watching Cynthia! I originally got in contact with a lawyer at American Public Media about the rights to sell my track on iTunes - but the rights for the theme were not for sale. So.. it just gets to be on RUclips for free! (And am I wrong, but has Splendid Table discontinued the use of this song for their show??)
Rachel Solomon You seem to be right. I went to the show's website to listen to a couple of episodes this morning and there is a different theme. I like the theme you're playing here very much, so if I can't hear it on the show, I can still hear it here. Thanks!
Billy Barber is great. '"Flowers From a Secret Admirer" is another composition by him that is very cool. It is available right here on RUclips. Check it out ASAP.
Ok; this is good enough that - until I read the entire provenance (hard to see on mobile) - I assumed it was the performance they'd cut down to make the actual on-air theme, and couldn't understand why you didn't talk about it on your website. :-) Yes; you should very much write charts for it.
Ha well thank you, what a compliment! Billy Barber is the composer/original performer of the piece.. but I can't find much of an on-line presence about him, so I get unfair attention. Maybe I will write it out!
baylinkdashyt No actually, this is my own sorta arrangement. I took all the pieces I've heard in the show (by listening to the last 2 minutes over and over again..), and some of the suggestions were made by the guys in the studio with me.
Ya know John, I didn't write this out. I picked it out by ear, by listening to the last 2 minutes of the show over, and over, and over… I should probably do a sheet music.
Well as far as I'm concerned, what they replaced it with was substantially less hip. And you'd think if they knew she was going to retire in a few months, they would have waited.
I liked TST a lot but the pretentious callers made unlistenable. The coy tone of voice. (puke) Made me lol-eyeroll hearing the gasps and cooing coming from their phones listening to the advice. lololol I had to turn it off. Still, I miss public radio weekends from around 10yrs ago the most. Great summers tooling around town listening to all the entertainment. So very too bad Keillor kinda ruined it. But "Wait wait" is still good. Anyway, I liked TST. Unlistenable pretense though lol.
@@RachelSolomusic😂 I love I get to enjoy this video again. I mean Oooo! Oh! Ahhhh! Caller: Hiiii. I recently made the most delicious bacon on Sunday. Lynne: Oh good! Caller: It was deLIGHTful. And I figured this ~grease~ can be used for something. Do you have any ideas? 🤗 Lynne: Oh yes. You know what you might enjoy? Caller: I can't wait!☺ Lynne: Melt some of the grease and just lightly drizzle Caller: [gasp!] Lynne: what we call "drippings" Caller: Ahhh! Lynne: on a freshly baked Caller: Mmmm Lol I can't finish this. ;)
This theme song popped in my head randomly and I had to hear it. Thank you for making this recording, great job!
I miss this theme. You knew The Splendid Table was coming on. One of the best themes in Public Radio. Please bring it back!!!
JoJo I miss the theme too! I guess it went with Lynn, when she exited the show.
The melody so full of goodness, I can almost smell the delicious aromas wafting from the kitchen.
I freakin' love this song. Great rendition.
Hey thank you! I do too.. it seems every superfan of the show does. So, since I could find no available recorded performance of it - I did it myself!
took me back to so many Sunday car rides with mom.
your video always brings me joy, thank you!
What a sweet comment! I’m so glad this could bring up nice memories. Thank you for listening.

I agree! Glad to have maybe the only remaining 'recording' of it available on-line!
Yes, very Charlie Brown-esque! I love this so much! 😍

awesome!

Really miss the show - and that last piano-run. Thanks
scpeer I miss it too, thank you for listening!
I have been looking for this. Thanks!!! Great job.
Awesome. Thanks!!

Me too! Thank you for listening Pete.
Thanks so much for posting this!
Striker744 Thank you for listening & watching!
if you created this version just through hearing the last 2 minutes ....i think you have a tremendous amount of talent. good for you.
Haha thanks! Yes it took a lot of repeat listening..
An excellent take on this evocative theme song! Please let me know if you ever decide to sell a recording of this.
Thank you for this. We've been listening to it a lot.
Oh thank you so much for giving it a (few) listen(s)!
Rachel Solomon Your recording is my go-to de-stress music. Watch you guys often.
Kevin Treon Kevin thank you so much! Glad it's receiving such good reception.
I loooove this! ♡
Haha thank you! Wish it was still the acting theme for the show.
I love this sooo much!! Wish it was in iTunes.

Did you do the extended arrangement, then, to full length?
baylinkdashyt No actually, this is my own sorta arrangement. I took all the pieces I've heard in the show (by listening to the last 2 minutes over and over again..), and some of the suggestions were made by the guys in the studio with me.
Got it. Well, it's very nice. The bridge might be a bit... bridgier, but I'm not a composer, so I'm probably not entitled to an opinion. ;-)
Dorkiest thing I've seen all day... also the most impressive.
It's very Mister Rogers-like
Accurate comparison!
Sheet Music?
Ya know John, I didn't write this out. I picked it out by ear, by listening to the last 2 minutes of the show over, and over, and over… I should probably do a sheet music.
Why in the 9 billion names of Ghod did they drop this music?
baylinkdashyt I don’t know, to hip up the show??
Thanks for listening!
Well as far as I'm concerned, what they replaced it with was substantially less hip. And you'd think if they knew she was going to retire in a few months, they would have waited.
