The information provided covers the entire city, including the poor, middle class, and rich. The data I present comes from the ACS, federal, and local government sources. Just because I highlighted one area doesn't mean the information applies only to those areas.
So, for those curious, the reason that the school is abandoned is due to a funding issue. So, back in the 60's, the school closed when construction of I95 and then later I10 caused it to become isolated. In that it was difficult for busses and students to get to. The building was used as storage by the school district until 1980, when a developer purchased it intending to convert it into a senior living home. However funding fell through on that when the federal government decided to end the program which the developer was intending to use to pay for the renovations. In the 90's, another developer purchased it after a fire in 95 had caused the auditorium to collapse. That developer wanted to turn it into condos. but in 2000 it got marked as a historic site. A new company bought it in 2011, paying for unpaid taxes to the city, though to date there's no word on what their intentions are with the property. One thing worth noting, all the stories about kids dying in the place, or things like boiler explosions killing students... aren't true. The school had originally opened around 1920, when it was the fourth school to open in Jacksonville, and it was out of use by 1960'. Though some records suggest the even as early as 1950, when it was renamed to the Annie Lytle building, most of the building was already empty, with student numbers being under 40 for the entire school.
Jacksonville is the biggest city landwise in the USA. And ive been there several times and it doesnt look like that. That area is just one side of that city...
Jacksonville is the fifth largest city in the U.S. by land area, while Sitka, Alaska, is the largest at 2,870.3 square miles. So, the video you saw is indeed in Jacksonville. You mentioned it looked like just one part, but I filmed several areas in this video. Jacksonville does look like that, and it's not just one area. Even downtown has some abandoned buildings. Check out my RUclips Shorts for more. Thanks for watching!
@@TIMJMEANSBUSINESS In the geographical 48 contigous states Jacksonville, Florida is the largest. Alaska is not included or as a factor as one of those States. Especially not in Logistics or any other geographical area when mapping out state boudaries.

I used to hear that Jacksonville was worse than Miami. So, I was surprised to find out that Jacksonville has a crime rate of C, while in your Liberty City Miami vlog, Miami received an F. Additionally, Jacksonville's median household income is $73K, which is really good. Thanks for sharing
Jacksonville these days is like Zero crime, but traffic accidents..the news is always interesting..but I'm in the Riverside area..zero crime but years ago car break ins was going on
Nice video.. born 69 in jax and have spent most of it here. I currently live south of jax in clay. Jax has sure changed for the worst. But there are still some very nice areas.
The oldest parts of Jacksonville that are populated by blacks are shown in this video. Had he driven a few miles out, you would have seen waterfront homes worth millions of dollars. Jacksonville is actually no more or no less than other large populated cities in the US. The biggest downside to Jacksonville is that it's a "Good ole boy" type of city, if you know what I mean.
I completely understand what you mean-it's similar in Brevard County, Florida, with that "good old boy" system. While Jacksonville does have its share of beautiful waterfront homes and nice neighborhoods, my subscribers are more interested in exploring the old, decaying, and abandoned areas. Thanks for pointing that out and for watching!
Who ever running Jacksonville needs to due better with poverty and helping the homeless and all these condemned apartments on the northside needs to be torn down and rebuilt again so these people with kids can have affordable places to live can't everybody afford high rise apartments man
I agree with you completely. It seems that communities only get attention when gentrification starts. It's no wonder the crime rate is high when people are left without opportunities. What are the poor supposed to do if they can't find work-just sit around and starve? That city government needs to do better.
I was born and raised here this is home of the heart for me but they need the right people running this city it's not a bad place to live but it need some real get down with this city and get it together people to run it not people saying what they gone do but it's nothing being done talk is just what it is talk.......
Sounds like you are the person for the job! Start by gathering like-minded people who share your vision for the city. Get involved with city hall meetings and actively participate. Run for a city council seat. Organize a program, reach out to business owners and entrepreneurs, and work on acquiring those apartments and abandoned homes. It can be done, but it will take a dedicated team of people who see's your vision.

Truth is the city has the money 💰😄 but "conservative political environment" money gets spent but its like we don't communicate, I see other cities they communicate, are urban, they let minorities pick and choose t how money gets spent , other cities try and focus on family and fun, with a smaller budget , meanwhile Jacksonville is just roads and sheriff, this is city Ron Desantis was born in so it literally tried to keep his image..we just work like we in Tallahassee or somewhere we don't got see much to show for what we got (the budget)
Thanks for your input. I saw recently that Jacksonville received billions to rebuild the downtown area. Instead of focusing solely on infrastructure, why not invest some of those funds into more activities and youth programs, provide grants to residents for home improvements, and create initiatives to address homelessness? There are so many positive and impactful ways to make Jacksonville a safer and better place to live. Now, don't get me wrong-Jacksonville is a great place to live. It just needs to allocate its resources more effectively.
@@TIMJMEANSBUSINESS Yes, that’s absolutely correct. That’s why I said no to your question about Jacksonville. I am saying the sundown towns are the worst because of what they stand for.
You think Jacksonville is country because everything in your video is the westside and some of the northside which is where all the country parts are at.
The downtown area has a distinctly country feel, reminiscent of Birmingham, Alabama. But there’s nothing wrong with a bit of country charm. I like Jacksonville for its mix of country and city vibes-you get the best of both worlds. I explored the entire city and have more vlogs coming soon. Thanks for watching!
