A few months ago my 9 year old asked if we could get bees. My first reaction was to say no, but then!! I found your channel and some other inspiring keepers and now we’re taking a class and have ordered supplies to be ready for our first hive!! Thank you for the inspiration. We’re definitely ready to “learn something old!”
You should join her Facebook group. It is a great place to ask questions and not have to worry about being embarrassed or think that it is a silly question. There is so much to learn about the honey bees. Don't be afraid to ask or even join a bee group in your area. I am presently mentoring three different families who are wanting to get started or are just getting started. Good luck!
Hi, we have one hive in my backyard in the city and we just got 32 lbs of honey this weekend and my fruit trees are very happy too, so satisfying to watch them coming back home in the afternoon.
Robyn this truly melts my heart!!!! I raise my children to be a part of the apiary! As a momma, I am here if you have any questions! The main advice I can give you is take the time and experience the bees through your child’s eyes ❤️ you are going to be a part of raising the next generation of beekeepers!
Cool... learned something here I haven't while watching a few other bee keepers vids: the difference between what a happy & an angry bee hive sounds like; &, what a queen sounds like! Thank you!
Swarm catching is still by far my favorite part of bee keeping. Shaking them down is often the best practice to use. You tube viewers that criticize things is just a sign of the times. You just keep doing things as you are. Some criticize, some do.... be a doer. Thank you
I never knew she sang until I watched your videos. I love that she sings. I've had two swarms in my old Oak tree. The first were larger honey bees, I thought adults...last year. This year, they were small...younger. I just couldn't stay away. I've never kept bees so they moved on, but man..what a beautiful sight! And the buzz! I could hear it coming.
If you knew how many unprotected 'swarm catchers' I have had to deal with in my ER you would never, ever question your immensely sensible decision. Until we fully learn to speak Bee, we can only guess upon what a swarm is thinking! Well done today, a wonderful and calmly executed catch - as always. Just keep doing what you believe in and most of the time it will all be fine - and please, never lose that love you have found for your bees - after all, they make far more sense than humans ever will😊
Some people are never happy no matter what you do. I love what you do and appreciate the hard work it takes to create these videos. It's great that you take the time to read the comments. Who could ask for more?
I wear my suit despite having very low reaction to bee stings, pain for only 30 seconds then nothing. The problem is, it doesn’t matter how many times you get stung, it only takes one for a anaphylactic reaction. I have know this to happen to bee keepers who had been stung so many times previously before. It can happen to anyone, best to stay safe where you can.
I love your little suite. You have to protect your family and do what makes you comfortable. Everyone has their own way.. Wow! They are so amazing!! I love watching you tend your bees. The sound is amazing. I heard her sing 😁 Wow, totally amazing!!
That was so cool to be able to hear the Queen sing. I couldn't hear it the other day on the other video but I sure heard it this time. I have never heard that ever before so now I know what to listen for in my own hives. Thanks so much Kaylee!!!!
Yes, I heard that the other day too, I realized that putting my headphones on, I was able to hear it last video, but this time,it was easy to spot it! :)
Kaylee, You are a wonderful beekeeper and it shows, you love your bees...by now, you know your bees and their temperment enough to know when to suit up! (or not) Our bees nether love us or hate us, sometimes they are gentle as a kitten and sometimes like a lion! It's up to the beekeeper to keep their bees, You are doing a great job....as good as anyone I know! Keep on beeing Yourself and all will work out just fine! Blessings to you and your family.
I have been scared of wasps all my life and sight of bees triggered me as I was never sure it wasn't a wasp. I found your videos last week and have been watching since, partly to educate myself, but also partly to try to desensitize myself so I can stop that panic reaction. I will never be comfortable with them flying round me, but yesterday I was able to sit in the garden and quietly watch 6 or 7 bees on the purple flowers on our garden wall, about 5 feet away, without panic. Thank you so much for that, and for all you do. Todays' video is the first time I have ever heard a queen bee sing! Your bees are lovely and so are you.
Never apologize for wearing the level of protection YOU feel is necessary to be safe. Sometimes I can work bees in shorts and a T shirt and other times a full suit and gloves isn't enough. Keep "beeing" you and doing your thing. As to casualties, it's important to remember that at the peak of the season, bees are hatching and dieing at a rate of 1000+ per day. Perspective is everything.
As far as I've seen, queens only sing to keep other queens (or princesses) away. So I think: clear hint there is more than one in this swarm. Only seconds later you can see another queen (entering from top center at 7:49)
I absolutely love watching your channel. You seem genuinely concerned for your bees. Also, you suit up when ever you need. I’m twice your size and I promise you I’d be suited up every time I opened that lid.
I always enjoyed hiving a swarm, I used a swarm box to catch mine in. Leave them over night and put them on a stand where they would live. I used a sheet placed in front of the hive and watch them walk in. Lovely to look at them after a week and see all that new wax. I always wore a suit, not worth the risk to open a hive and they turn waspey. I had to give my bees up as I reacted to the stings.
Look at the spacing of the girls on the top of the hive body fanning at around the 10:15 mark. It’s almost like they used a ruler to space themselves out. Neat.
What bee madness is this? I just found your channel and I love it! You have a natural charm that makes everything seem magical! I'm addicted and I'm your new number 1 fan!
In the past week I have developed a huge interest in bees and beekeepers and equipment out of nowhere. I just find bees really fascinating. Your channel is great. You're having a subscriber from BC/Alberta Canada.
You're so awesome, thanks so much for sharing...I can see the love you have for the bees...What a blessing you are to the world, not just beekeepers, everyone!
I just recently got into the conservation of bees and your channel has quickly became my go to channel to learn about them. Thank you so much for all your work and your videos.
Thanks for another enjoyable video. I think you were right about multiple queens, at 7:50 it looks like another queen enters from the top of the center of the camera frame and moves to the right.
I’m always excited when there is a swarm to catch, it’s fun and amazes people who don’t know what the bees are doing , I love helping people understand bees and I always give them some honey to try, it’s an experience for them and there always happy they got a new home.
I am moved to tears by your expression of love for what you do. I am newly passionate about having bees in the yard for the first time since my dad passed away. He would be happy. Thanks for all the great videos!
It’s always nice to see an experienced beekeeper treat her bees so gently. I think many start off that way but then over time become complacent. I follow several other commerical and hobbyists on RUclips and none are as delicate and loving as you. And don’t worry about those who judge you for your decision to wear a suit. I mean, obviously it’s super fashionable and flattering, but it serves another purpose too. Some people forget that nature can be unpredictable at times. Thanks again for sharing another special moment from your day with us!
Outstanding video. Thank you for sharing. This is something I really want to get into. My grandmother kept bees and would not need any protection, she she said she talks to them and tells them her problems. Of course we just thought she was nuts. The more I watch these videos the more I understand and learn. Again thank you for sharing I'm now subscribed and all notification set.
Hey Kaylee, I so love your videos, especially this one. I love how you show such great concern for the honey bees and how you lovingly make a home for them. I am very old and still wear my gloves and at least put on a hat and veil. That is just me and I don't apologize for it and neither should you. If anything you should help others understand that it is okay what ever you do as long as you feel comfortable. Suggestion: I was taught, don't remember by whom, that putting down a white bed sheet is the best way to get the bees to march into the hive body. I learned this technique back in the 70's when I first started bee keeping. Two things that I have learned about this method is one, it is more gentle on the bees to fall on the sheet with the grass under it. Two, if you tap on the side of the hive body it will attract the bees and they will go towards the sound and march into the box. Three, almost forgot this one, this also helps you to look for the queen or queens. The last swarm I caught, which was in my peach tree, I got a chair and sat down next to the box and watched for the queen. I didn't have my queen catcher and missed her the first time as she went into the box. I sat back down and waited and sure enough she came back out and I caught her and put her in the hive and released her the next day. I caught this swarm twice, the first time they went into a nuc and came back out and flew back up into the peach tree. I was concerned that maybe they thought the box was to small so I put down a full size deep box and cut off the branch and gently laid them on the sheet. I didn't have a white sheet but I did have a couple white pillow cases which worked okay since it was a small swarm. I have since gone out and purchased a white sheet and am now prepared for the next swarm. I hope you are not offended by my suggestions, that is not my intent. Just wanted to add to what you did in hopes that it will help. Oh, one other thing I have learned. Don't be afraid to cut off the limb(s) to your tree even if it does cause them to lose their perfect shape. It will grow back and besides, you will remember that swarm every time you see where the limp was removed.
I love all your suggestions! Thank you so much for taking the time to share! The sheet is such a soft area for the girls to land. I do appreciate this and know that others who read it will as well!
Thank you. I'd just sat down and got comfy with an ice cold self poured glass of Guinness. To enjoy your filming, after I'd got back one of my swarms today. And you started off and as you removed some frames to make room. I suddenly remembered I'd done the same but not put them back in. And I looked outside and the heaven's had just opened. Down went my glass and my tablet. And off I pelted up my garden to put them back in!! I don't think my girls even had noticed they had excessive space.
Great catch! You're a natural teacher behind the camera. Whenever I turn the camera on myself, I feel a weird muscle in my larynx constrict and make my voice go funny and another one in my eye that must be connected. Keep shredding homie!
THANK you. The video was very well done. Thats why others share your videos. Tasteful and delightful and well done all at the same time. Thanks for teaching me, a wanna bee keeper from Alabama, working in Maryland. ☺
Kaylee U r so beautiful in the anti stinging suit ♥️🌹..I just got mine yellow coloured yesterday bcz it was almost white after 20 years not using it ...used to help a beekeeper now bought 20 hives in April and made 10 swarms 7 artificial and 3 cought from starting season (swarming a lot on acacia honey) Beekeeping is a wonderful world ... ciao from Italy dear
Hi from the UK, Keep up the great videos. You suit up if you want to, I always do as well. Why take a risk. Criticism from other people shows they have a problem, not you. Beekeeping has so many ways of doing the same thing, what works for some does not always work for others. You never stop learning in this hobby. You are showing people how you do it, they can learn from that.
I have always loved Bees. When I was six I found a baby Bumble out in the grass Early in the morning and I thought it was dead, I was Both Happy to learn that it wasn't and alarmed by how much it hurt to be stung. Despite the sting I have always liked them. If I fiend a bee or bumble in my home I endure it gets out safe. I am responsible for Apartment buildings and I make sure we don't use any harmful sprays in our gardens and when we had a nest I made the Building owner pay the extra cost to have the nest captured and sent to a person who has hives. They are so small but one of the most importent parts of a Healthy eco system. Thank you for sharing this and helping others to see there true nature.
With my headphones on, I could really hear the difference in the frequency when they calmed down and also really clearly hear the queen sing, and you could also see and hear it when they put their little rears in the air and start fanning their family home :)
Great video. There always will be some people that say we do it wrong. They think we are taking the bees food and hurting them. They have no idea what we all do. Like plant plants just for the bees, watch and help stop pests and treat the bees if they get some. All to say the hive. Thank you.
I am glad your one of many now care for our bee environment and we hope with your education and advice will make sure bees are looked after how they should be.❤️
You are saving way more than if the went where they're not wanted!!! Ignore stupid and keep trying to teach the ignorant.. You're doing a wonderful thing sweetheart!!!!
I am so glad I watched several of your videos, 2 days after I watched you catch a swarm a neighbor called me about a swarm in his tree, I did it just like you did and it worked. This was a first for me and now my bees are in the garden. So rewarding. And magical. Thank you.
hey first time viewer here, I really liked your video 📹 I'm glad you suited up I thought you weren't going to at first! I'm going to subscribe because I find these videos very calming. 😇🌈❤️🌸👍
It's interesting that you should mention capturing a unique moment, because in another swarm capture video, you were filming some bees as they were crawling onto a frame with some drawn out comb looking to spot the queen. The lighting was gorgeous, the was perfect, and the scene was artful, a living painting! Don't let the trolls get to you. They're a bunch of armchair commandos! You and your family have a whole FARM! And it's SUCCESSFUL! On top of that you have a very successful RUclips channel sharing your success as a beekeeper, and more than willing to share what has worked for you and encouraging others to keep bees too! ALL of the above is hard work, and if it looks easy, that shows your skill at it! That you can explain it in detail, that shows how well you understand it and how comfortable you are with it. And as far as any safety measures goes, better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it!
How cool was that. I didn’t know Queen made a different sound. I am deathly afraid of bees but I have become so fascinated watching bee videos. So glad I found your channel! New sub!
great catch, i ALWAYS wear my gear i could care less what anyone else thinks, ive caught a hot hive before and they would have cleaned my plate had i not had it on.Great video!! beautiful queen!
I've never heard the queen piping/singing - that was so cool. I know they do it but never heard it. I caught my first swarm this year with a senior bee keeper and he suggested smoking the area where the swarm was after shaking. That way they don't fly back to it. But i suppose even if they did they would eventually come back to the box. Great video.
I've long ago fell in love with these creatures! IF I had the room now, I'd already have hives. My new place near teh end of next year WILL have space enough that I can FINALLY get me a hive, or two.
Hello, lovely video thank you so much for sharing this and always listen to your self I would always wear a suit you can never really tell the temperament of a swarm and as you said bees can be very dangerous, you did a fantastic job shaking them bees into your box I hope they stay and be a nice successful colony for you. Lots of respect from one beekeeper to another beekeeper .
I was hospitalized in August, due to a bee sting in my foot, so please don’t ever apologize for using protective gear. Actually I find it inspiring and also remember that you are a role model to a lot of new beekeepers and as you said you have a family 😘. I always suit up, when I go to my bees. You will never make everyone happy, but you are doing a fantastic job. I just love to follow you, please take care and stay safe 👍. Hugs from Denmark.
Oh my so sorry to hear about that!! I hope al is well. Thank you for your kindness and understanding. It is true, many new keepers are sometimes made to feel lesser due to wearing a suit. I don’t stand for that and I am purposely wearing one on camera to show that it’s completely ok to wear one. Some hives are like Kitten’s and some are like lion’s! Safety should not be shamed ❤️
The Honeystead Ohhh, I should have mentioned that I am fine now, but it was a close call. I am getting vaccinated now every 8th week, for 5 years in total and then I should be immune to bee and wasp sting once again 🐝. I love bees and will never give it up and the vaccine is free here. You are so right about the “shaming”, but due to people like you, I hope it will be more accepted and hopefully even encouraged 😊. Take care.
Don’t worry about the haters there’s more lovers and haters. I believe if you can’t say something nice don’t say nothing at all. God bless you my friend and be happy
You have for sure been #1 factor in inspiring me to get into bee keeping 💚 I watch a few different channels who keep and talk about bees but you are by far my favourite. Sooo chill :)))
The first for me, hearing the queen sing🐝 you have a good ear, you must enjoy good music. Thanks I enjoyed the clip❤️
What passion! Everyone should be that lucky to find something they are that passionate about that doesn’t cost money and is even profitable
Sweet bee keeper. I thinks it's appropriate. Gentle bees cause you're gentle. Keep up the great work you do with bees.
You bee wisperer!
I love the way you work with those bees, respect them, explain everything and have SUCH a passion for it.
A few months ago my 9 year old asked if we could get bees. My first reaction was to say no, but then!! It's great that you take the time to read the comments.
Who could ask for more?
You’ve always shared such kind words with me! Thank you for taking the time a writing! What is your first name?
If you feel like suiting up, do it! If somebody “suitshames” you, just ignore em. Your suit IS super fantastic BTW..
P
Lol suitshames is a perfect term ❤️
John Coleman if someone tries to shame me, I’ll tell them to come check my bees and then watch them get chased out of the yard. 🙂
Great Video 👍♥️

Don't listen to the idiots. I love your videos . I'm getting my first bees in June, and you're teaching me so about bee keeping. Thank you
You are blessed is why you get the great footage. Its Karma rewarding you. And yes, we all are enjoying these videos. Have a great weekend.
I love your little suite. You have to protect your family and do what makes you comfortable. Everyone has their own way.. Wow! They are so amazing!! I love watching you tend your bees. The sound is amazing. I heard her sing 😁 Wow, totally amazing!!
SMART - my first swarm catch as a new beekeeper - had read about their chill and gentleness - they lit me up - suited up to finish the catch job!!!

I was stung very badly once and boy I would have loved to have had a good bee suit.
A suit of ego will never protect anyone from anything. Kudos for suiting up - you do you and be comfortable, safe, and awesome, as always.

First time watching your channel. It was incredible! The queen sings to her "subjects" the coast is clear! Isn't nature fantastic?!
I thank you for sharing these incredible, magical moments.
Yep suit every time. No problem with what others think.

Great job, you did everything right including wearing your protection, thanks for your video. Hobby beekeeper from London, Ontario, Canada.
I didn't know that Queens sing. I heard her singing. Pretty cool!
In the right situation queens make a sound called "piping" it is a beautiful thing to behold.
Wow. Never knew the Queen sang... Learnt something new today . Great job
Thank you for sharing this beautiful soul 💛🐝🌟🌞

The queen singing was awesome!
One thing i really like about those queens piping is how on the comb the bees will literally stop what they’re doing while she’s piping.
Yassss 🙌🙌 it’s like they stop and fall in love with her intoxicating sound
Great catch! You're a natural teacher behind the camera. Whenever I turn the camera on myself, I feel a weird muscle in my larynx constrict and make my voice go funny and another one in my eye that must be connected. Keep shredding homie!
THANK you. The video was very well done. Thats why others share your videos. Tasteful and delightful and well done all at the same time. Thanks for teaching me, a wanna bee keeper from Alabama, working in Maryland. ☺
You just do it so well! And serenely!
Kaylee U r so beautiful in the anti stinging suit ♥️🌹..I just got mine yellow coloured yesterday bcz it was almost white after 20 years not using it ...used to help a beekeeper now bought 20 hives in April and made 10 swarms 7 artificial and 3 cought from starting season (swarming a lot on acacia honey)
Beekeeping is a wonderful world ... ciao from Italy dear
That was a great catch...there going to have a great home and bee well taken care of
I loved this one, and you sounded quite emotional when you said your catchphrase!
Ur best video yet, especially the parts where ur not suited up. Wow, u r a Queen!
With my headphones on, I could really hear the difference in the frequency when they calmed down and also really clearly hear the queen sing, and you could also see and hear it when they put their little rears in the air and start fanning their family home :)
Never get tired of watching bees get shaken out of trees into the hive box. It's kinda wild but cool :D
Great video. There always will be some people that say we do it wrong. They think we are taking the bees food and hurting them. They have no idea what we all do. Like plant plants just for the bees, watch and help stop pests and treat the bees if they get some. All to say the hive. Thank you.
I am glad your one of many now care for our bee environment and we hope with your education and advice will make sure bees are looked after how they should be.❤️
Thank You , I really enjoy what you do, just keep on doing it 😇😊💖🍂
Keep doing your own thing and ignore the haters. They hate because they're afraid to love.
Love your videos... I always suit up....
Well done ma'am...I would like to be a bee keeper one day in the future...👏👏
You are saving way more than if the went where they're not wanted!!! Ignore stupid and keep trying to teach the ignorant.. You're doing a wonderful thing sweetheart!!!!
I always suit up when collecting an unknown swarm. You can`t tell the disposition of them, until you work them.
I could hear that Queen sing even without headphones, bee safe wear your personal protection equipment when necesary.
You always do great with your bees, love the way you share your profession with others, Thanks !
I am so glad I watched several of your videos, 2 days after I watched you catch a swarm a neighbor called me about a swarm in his tree, I did it just like you did and it worked. This was a first for me and now my bees are in the garden. So rewarding. And magical. Thank you.
That is wonderful Karen!!! I am so happy for you ❤️
Your passion for beekeeping is inspiring.
This is so amazing to me. You are a blessing to our environment and the earth! Keep up the great work!
Poor pitiful apple tree.... love it!!

I'm going to subscribe because I find
these videos very calming.
😇🌈❤️🌸👍
The haters are just jealous of your fantastic suit Mrs. Kaylee ignore them and keep doing you Ma'am. Loved you last live also 👍👍❤👍👍
That was a wonderfully relaxing video. Thank you so much.
The Fit Farmer sent me here to visit your channel. So glad that I did 😁
❤️
Great new home for the swarm. I'm still learning bee keeping. Thank you for sharing the video and your knowledge with us.
Oh my goodness!!! I did hear her sing!! 😮😮😮😮
Good job! Great to see the queen go in the hive. I'm just south of Seattle, WA and caught 2 swarms last week. BTW, cool shirts!
Take care.
Wow. Good job. You make it look so easy.
Don’t worry about the haters there’s more lovers and haters. I believe if you can’t say something nice don’t say nothing at all. God bless you my friend and be happy
I would wear a suit tooooo , safety is number 1 ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Yes I m agree with u... always Safe always! Beautiful swarm!
Good catch its nice how low they were no lader
You have for sure been #1 factor in inspiring me to get into bee keeping 💚 I watch a few different channels who keep and talk about bees but you are by far my favourite. Sooo chill :)))
