  • We spent Canada Day visiting Fort William Historical Park! This was a neat place with a lot of history to learn right on the shore of the Kaministiquia River. We hope you enjoy our video and check it out if you're ever in Thunder Bay, Ontario.
What is Fort William? From the fort map...
"The year is 1815 and the place is Fort William. This is the inland headquarters of the North West Company, the world's largest fur trading enterprise with trading posts reaching across North America. This is a place where cultures meet, and relationships are forged between Indigenous Peoples and non-Indigenous newcomers. Fort William stands on the traditional territory of the Anishinaabeg, the Indigenous People who live in harmony with Nimaamaa Aki (Mother Earth). Through their strong relationship with Creator, Ancestors and Mother Earth, the Anishinaabeg ensure their physical, spiritual, and cultural survival. The Anishinaabeg share their invaluable knowledge, technologies, and skills and exchange furs and other natural material goods for European goods to ensure their European partners' survival and the success of the North West Company. Each Summer, French-Canadian voyageurs, Scottish businessmen, Indigenous Peoples, and others from around the world gather at Fort William for the Great Rendezvous to discuss business, share news and renew friendships. Experience this unique place and time in Canadian history through the eyes of peoples past."

You could easily spend half a day here. I think they had extra stuff going on because it was Canada Day, but there is a lot to see either way. They may have a schedule of events posted where you can check the dates you’ll be in the area. Thank you for watching! We have a few more videos coming from the trip as well!

1/2 day if you are going to just stick your head in each building. Full day if you engage and talk to the people, try on the clothing, lift a 90lb pack, carve some wood, churn some butter, and throw some axes.

@Awol991 definitely! I was not sure how much of that stuff is going on daily and what stuff was going on for Canada Day that’s outside the normal activities. It was a great place to check out though with a lot of interesting history to learn and experience hands on.
