On the subject of hero’s kits, when my Dad was 13 in the 80s he got the chance to spend a day with Motörhead at their jam space! Lemmy made my Nan a cup of tea and my dad got the chance to play on Phil Taylor’s mirror chrome Yamaha 9000 kit (from the classic era). I’m so jealous! They had written Going To Brazil a couple of days before and my dad and my grandparents were the first members of the public to hear it when they got a complete private show! The pictures of my dad stood next to Wurzel are still on my Nan’s mantelpiece 🤘🏻
With regard to technique vs gear, remember Lombardo, Ulrich, Benante etc... recorded their early stuff on Tama Camcos, before even Iron cobra existed. Hoglan still uses them!!
I've played with a drummer that did flawless double kick on a shitty kit with the kick drum turned around using the front head. It worked for a practice.
200.00 electronic drum set... Step 1) buy a module or usb trigger interface for 100.00... look on ebay... Step 2) buy piezoelectric triggers Step 3) put them inside some hard back books and connect everything. YOU CAN PUT A PIEZOELECTRIC TRIGGER ON YOUR YOUR BALLS AND HAVE UR OLD LADY KICK A BEAT. TECHNICALLY TURNS ANYTHING INTO A DRUM. LOL! THIS WORKS AND I'VE DONE IT! ONCE UPON A TIME WHEN I FIRST STARTED PRODUCING IN THE EARLY 90'S... EVERYONE WANTED 808 AND SYNTH HITS IN EVERYTHING.
On that first question...one thing about buying new gear is that often you feel pumped after getting it and you are energized and want to play more and get better and really get your money's worth out of the gear. New gear is EXCITING!! But don't expect it to totally transform your playing overnight. Another thing is I think maybe the 90/10 rule holds true more for experienced players. Like if you take someone just starting out and give them great gear, they have the opportunity to know that any suckage is 100% between the throne and the pedals, nowhere else. I.e., they suck, not the equipment. Great gear - esp. mechanical gear like pedals - gives you a stable platform to learn on or something. Once your technique is great and you have control over your limbs, you can make the small muscle and posture adjustments necessary to play on different pedals - even shitty ones. i think having great drums and cymbals is secondary to great pedals and a great snare stand. Just MHO \m/
Hey guys, I started practicing everyday and after about three months I have already got significantly better!!!! It was really strange is one day things just clicked and I could magically play stuff....it was like I leveled up.
Skill over equipment ANY day. I had a Pearl forum with iron cobra double pedal on my old kit, and I thought "surely its not ME that is terrible, it HAS to be the gear!". Then we played with Destroyer 666, the drummer used my kit.... Realization at that moment, no Dave, its you that sucks, not the gear.
Got this early. Too bad I can’t watch it now since I just got done washing my car. Gotta wait til I get home. Either way I can tell it’s gonna be good content :) hope you’re doing well and staying safe during this pandemic!
dude that $200 drum kit question is legit. that Yamaha pad think isn't bad though. we had a chick jamin on that thing all weekend and it honestly isn't bad if you keep it simple. probably won't sound great for blasting on.
As for the pedal question number 1.... My opinion, it's muscle memory. You learn the pedal and you will roll great. But you switch to another type of pedal it will take a little to adjust. Yes the pedal will add a little more ease to your playing depending the style you're playing. I'd say more the problem is getting a single double pedal to feel the same on both feet. Or two bass drums to match exactly. STOP USING TORQUE KEYS!!!!! You torque one side it will take more torque to level your rim and head out. Yes even in a star pattern. May sound stupid but the best tuning is by press. Yes a press like they tune and keep equal tension in a rope tension drum.
Im convinced that im the only person that not even likes, but just doesnt hate; the st anger snare drum. I really loved it and it suited some of the songs on the stanger album.
Scheduled time off is just as important as your work. The Beatles said they were always very firm about the few days off they would get. Date night is a good start, but even if you have to reschedule housecleaning to an hour after dinner every night in order to have Sunday off, you should. The most I do on my day off is make my lunches for the week and do my long uninterrupted shower routine. You need to schedule down time or you will go off your rocker and not enjoy playing anymore.
For the $200 electric drumset question, its unlikely. The best cheap on to buy is the Alesis Nitro Mesh kit, it runs around $300 to $350. Otherwise look into used gear
i think you'll be happy to note you are getting me closer to listening to some heavier stuff. i typically listen to glam metal or trad heavy metal. im still not super into metallica (havent had the time), but im getting more bands on my list, and some have come from your videos
My first pedal was a Ludwig Speed King from the 60s, and I learned the double stroke heal toe technique by myself simply trying to play Nicko McBrain stuff. Unless the pedal is total garbage it's totally technique.
I bought an electric drumset for around $200 once, and it was the worst decision I could've possibly made. You get what you pay for, and I got a cheap pile of shit that remotely sounded like a drum set. The pads were mounted with cheap plastic mounts on cheap metal tubing and they never stayed in place no matter how much you tightened the screws. My advice to the guy who asked is to just save up for a proper electric kit.
for playing super mario ... you could use something which converts MIDI notes comming from your MIDI interface and for the "keeping button pressed" issue maybe a hihat-ctrl could solve that ;)
Regarding the $200 budget for an e-kit, save your damn money and spend more for one, don't go cheap. You get what you pay for when it comes to e-kits. I've owned a $400 Simmons set, and I now own a roland td-17($1300), the difference is night and day. Not saying you have to spend over a grand, but if you spend 400, you'll wish you bought a better one sooner than later, and good luck selling it and getting even 25% of your money back.
I met and became friends with Terry Bozzio about 13 years ago. I lived 5 minutes from DW at the time. I played on his tobacco fade kit. Let me tell you that was the most intimidating thing ever. And I’m a veteran. It was too much to try and play. Way too much
If you want drums for under $200 electronics or acoustic. You're going to need to surf offerup, craigslist, and facebook marketplace. Just remember to try before you buy.
I appreciate King's Throne sponsoring you but I really liked your Raid: Shadow Legends commercials so much more, you were very passionate about that game.
I would love to hear you do a re recording of and justice for all in an appropriate for the era, but your style. Better than the drum fills Lars played on that album for sure.
Hey Samus, firts i would like to thanks to all your inspirations video. At least for me. Do you considered make a gear video, show all your cymbals, hardware and shells ??? Sorry for my shitty english. Cheers from Brazil !!! Ohhhyuuurrrr 🤘
There is a site that sells used kits for around $275.00. I saw a Pearl kit with cymbals and hardware for that price. I'll come back and let you know what the site is. Be back soon.
I have some cheap pearl P-932 pedals with upgraded direct drive (that doesn't even fit correctly) and they still feel pretty good. I don't like saying great things about my playing, but I feel like I sound pretty great on them. Definetly practice bro!
LOVE YOUR INTRO IN CONTRA FASHION! ....oh...oh...oh...oh....yeeeaaaahhh! Samus, would you do blast beats with songs from Contra!?!?! That would be badass!
Dude, if you and james made kill em all, etc etc. Fuck it would be soooo good. I like your orginal drum comps. I like that you dont go hyper fast and you dont milk the blast so much. Your very tasteful
Following on from the one about pedals vs technique: If you were to get some cheap pedals, I'd recommend the Mapex Mars or Mapex Armory pedals. They're pretty cheap and cheerful, factory spring settings are nice and tight, good for fast playing on a budget, and with the Armory pedals you can also adjust the weight of the beater. With how tight I had my springs, I had heavy beaters for more impact, but with the feel of the Mars pedals, currently I'm playing with light beaters.
Weird question, but you mentioned you have an autoimmune condition and I'm intrigued 'cos I do too. Ankylosing spondylitis, specifically. Is your condition also arthritic? Does it mess with your playing?
Well when you're burned out you gotta take a break (if u can) and do life stuff for a while, until the drum cravings begin again and the cycle continues.
The alesis has a less than 200 drumset that technically works but they should atleast save up another 200 to 300 to get one that's not gonna fall apart in a few months
I've always used single kicks and double pedals, but recently got a new ddrum Dominion Kit with two 20x22 kicks, and went ahead and got a Gibralter double rack with 2 side extensions, and since I was needing new cymbals as well I decided on the Meinl Classics Custom Ultimate pack which cost me another grand, long story short after I spent the money on the kit, rack, boom arms, and cymbals I didn't have much left to spend on 2 single pedals without my fiancè leaving me, so I bought 2 Iron Cobra 600's. I feel like my speed has suffered with these pedals,I can't get them dialed in for shit. Do you think it's just me getting used to 2 kick drums or could it be the Iron Cobra 600's just suck? Because I attached my Tama Speed Cobra Double Pedal and my speed was spot on. Any info, help, or advice will be much appreciated!
Download King’s Throne: Game of Lust clcr.me/qR2A4L Activate the code “ca435ca7” and you’ll get 500 Diamonds and 20 Maiden Fragments which can be exchanged on Maleen, Morrigan or Sarah maidens! Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Yurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!
Ok
On a drum mometer what are your drums tuned
For the SMB challenge: You could hold the high hat down for running, left, right, up, down on toms, bass for jump.
!!!!SAMUS IS CHEATING ON RAID!!!!
I’m curious to know how you tune your drums. I looked at your videos but couldn’t find one on tuning. Keep it up!
Regarding the first question: The infamous Mike Portnoy's Loudwire video playing a "double bass" Pokemon toy drums xD
🤣🤣 we we could all have mike portnoys skills that would be great
I think he's done another one since the Pokemon one as well haha
The Macrocosm! XD Thats the song that I got ya to play!
You like rings of Saturn???? No way
The Macrocosm is awesome!
shards of scorched flesh is better
OH YEAH I FORGOT ABOUT THAT

That is fucking epic!
Also, I love the Zenith Passage. Their album with a half-robot face on it is so good. To me it's like a metal/jazz fusion album, super good stuff.
You had me worried that you'd cut your hair 😂
Same😀😀
Talk about clickbait
@@cerebralwolf666 talk about getting a heart attack, but then again, he would hever shave all of that years worth of hair
You know, the longer this quarantine goes on, the more Samus starts to look like Dave Grohl.
Lol I mean have you ever seen the two in one room together? Just saying, HIGHLY suspect if you ask me🤔😂?
Early lingapping landscaping company membership
how tf you attach images to commets, wtf
@@РыгорБородулин-ц1е subscription 👍
Samus actually did shave his head, he's using an app. That was fake hair.
You forgot to say Plot twist jk
NO. - Caesar the Ape
We should get him to do the old person app 😄
With regard to technique vs gear, remember Lombardo, Ulrich, Benante etc... recorded their early stuff on Tama Camcos, before even Iron cobra existed. Hoglan still uses them!!
If you ever get around to doing a full album, it should be a Samus and Ola Englund collab album. That would be sooo goood....
Hi Samus I just bought a Paul Reed Smith electric . Practicing lots and using your drum audios in patreon ! Big Help
I've played with a drummer that did flawless double kick on a shitty kit with the kick drum turned around using the front head. It worked for a practice.
200.00 electronic drum set...
Step 1) buy a module or usb trigger interface for 100.00... look on ebay...
