- A chain plying ball is a brilliant way to carefully create a chain, keeping colors together before you start actually plying. I did this during the Tour de Fleece this year and have the yarn featured over on Instagram.
Mojito's are brilliant both with and without rum!

I’m soooo glad to see you back!!!
you always have fantastic information. and always new things to show. never seen that ball befor and i binched on many videos.....
As always, a great video. (Wish I were nearer to you, I have 2 mint plants you would love - Mojito Mint, and Ginger Mint.)
Very interesting. I didn't realize until your other plying ball video that you use an actual ball in the center. Thank you for sharing.
I hate plying. I wonder if this technique will make it more pleasant. I can't wait to try it.
@@wycohibito ohhh my goodness, I do too! Let me know if this helps make it more enjoyable!
I tried the plying ball last night. So much easier! Thank you!
@@wycohibito I love that it was easier! YAY!!!
I honestly love the concept of chaining the yarn before taking it to the wheel and chain plying from a plying ball. its a great idea! my only thought on this, as a neurodivergent person, is weighing whether adding the extra step is going to cause executive function issues. Honestly, learning to chain ply was one of the last basic plying techniques I learned because of it being daunting as far as chaining as you ply. Just a thought, and if anybody who is also neurodivergent who likes using this method over chaining as you ply wants to weigh in, I really want to hear other perspectives.
@miserybutane298 you raise a GREAT question. I'm looking forward to seeing how others respond too. For me, trying to navigate clean color chains while at the wheel was creating a lot of frustration! Carefully pre-chain plying and keeping colors together has produced yarns that I like a lot more!
I love having a chain ply ball but I kind of hate the process of making one. I always end up dropping a thread and losing tension and then the yarn pigtails on itself and argh. I saw a hint somewhere of using a warping peg to hold the loop while wrapping the ball and that helps. I also like to make my chain loops really long (longer than I can reach) so that adds complexity to the process.
@maliora Yes, I can see how very long chains would make this more challenging. I typically only use a plying ball if I'm traveling with only one spindle, or trying to keep colors together. I chain plied the final spin of this year's Tour de Fleece, and I had all over the place lengths to keep colors clean and trying to do that while at the wheel would have been a monumental challenge!
