This video will show you how to fix an SSD or SD card that won't allow you to format it. Or fix an SSD or SD card that won't delete files (they keep coming back). Unfortunately, your drive is probably dead or in the last stages of its life so be prepared for nothing to work. But at least you tried.

No problem! it's frustrating when drives die out of the blue but I was super happy it died in a way I could at least get the data off!!! I hope you were lucky enough as well!
Great video and glad to hear you confirm that this type of drive behaviour still requires a replacement drive ad the best solution. This drive failure has happened to me twice before and as you say, a failed drive that lets you copy data is better than nothing at all. Thanks for the clear and concise steps too.👍🏾
Thanks for taking the time to comment. It's one of the strangest ways for a drive to fail but also the best. You still get that precious chance to take any data off.
thanks man. Really straight to the point and informative. I just find it funny that Disk Management still reads the SSD as "healthy" even though my SSD is totally unformattable and dead lol
No problem! I thought the same thing with Disk Management but I guess it's because the disk kind of functions well for everything except removal so it probably needs an update to detect things better. At least when the drive breaks like this you can get your data off and still use it as a long term storage source for whatever is on it!
My micro SD card has this problem, can not delete or format and can't add anything new to it. I've tried these steps plus others I've found online and it will not format. It is under warranty (3 months old) but I have a lot of pictures and personal files on it that I don't want the the person dealing with the return to go through so I just have to take the L. Fortunately I am able to copy the data and transfer them.

This is a scenario that I hadn't thought about before... I guess you are stuck making a choice between the warranty and the pics.. Sadly I don't know of a way to actually remove the contents that wouldn't void the warranty...
U can copy the content though it's just not movable .
Just bought a new NVME SSD yesterday and after hitting the mark of 230 GB used, turns out it died on me. Time to get my money back. Thanks a lot for the informative video, best of luck in the future!
That's pretty bad luck with an NVME drive! Hopefully you can get a quick swap

it sucks shit like this can happen been trying for ages to get it fixed and welp glad to hear I just gotta suck it up and buy a new one even tho i wished I could save it. I've dealt so many times with corrupted stuff or having work formatted by family that I just feel like I'm cursed to have this happen to me no matter how many back ups I make. I mean the cmd wouldn't even allow me to clean this one. Formatting was impossible and the fixing also ended at 79 percent or so. I did check the files for some odd ones and despite unfinished mp4 files that I deleted in the copied back up there was nothing odd I could find. Any file which couldn't be transferred I skipped probably cuz they might be corrupted as well.
still thanks for this video tho! I'll just gotta wait for the new one to drop in the mail tomorrow and reupload the files I could save from my sd card to that new sd card and see if nothing of value has been lost.
I know that exact same feeling! It's a pain in the ass! It gets expensive buying new drives all the time..
My m.2 is weird. I can copy and paste other files to it. Delete them. Its a 246g drive and its acting like its partitioned when it isnt....I just used the remaining 74g as a pagefile. Really odd. Leads me to believe their is something else we may be overlooking keeping the files on the drive.
It might just be a faulty one? I had a few people (techies) look at my drive and offer this solution and they all agreed it was dead. I'd try to get an RMA for your NVME because that is one strange strange issue!
Well turns out it’s dead. Thank you for the informative video! I turned on my computer a couple days ago- no windows or anything. It reads my drives but won’t install windows. I tried copying and deleting everything on my SSD on another computer, no luck. I guess it’s time to start anew :/ what I’m confused about is how BOTH of my drives just up and died…

I was able to wipe the drive clean but I couldn't write anything to it (doesn't matter how big or small the file is). I've already made sure that it's not read only. Any other suggestion or do I just give up?
Sounds like it's dead. Not much more you can do at this stage.
Thank you for the video. Sadly my SD card not even react to clean command. Simply keeps every data. Its annoying as the drive 3 weeks old (used in a dashcam). I accept the fact it wont last forever but roughly 10 hours of work and just díing like that is frustrating. Btw thanks for the tutorial at least i tried.

i have a sandisk 32gb microsd card i cant create , Move , delet data into and from it cant even format if formatted it shows successful but data comes back so does that means sd card is dead
Pretty much yes. The same exact thing as mine. It's toast. I keep it around because the data I have on it is still visible etc but outside of being a forever storage it's dead.
@@JASHIKO_ ok thanks man i tried like 4-5 ways to formate from linux read few articles even installed windows back to use few windows only software in hopes it would work but man never got a straightforward answer like its dead from anywhere thankyou : )

What if I can delete and upload files, but there are a few, like 5 files (every file on this SSD is an .aiv) which I can't delete, I click on them and nothing happens, what should I do?
Are they write protected or something?

I copied my Data from SD card to my PC.
Thing is I can't delete data from it.

I can't delete data from a fqn SD card which I found in junkbox idk whose SD card it but wanna use it but wasn't deleting data even after formatting it's recovers itself every time and I'm pissed off
That's why it was in the junk box it's dead. Just throw it away.
how about formatting it via booting USB for OS?

When i do that clean and initialize it in disk management and select any of mbr/gpt , the partition comes back again. Ssd health 70%
I've had similar. I don't know how reliable the numbers actually are though.

very similar to mine, my ssd is so dead too, after clean and format, files still there. tried windows chkdsk /f /r /x failed in step 2
It's a weird way to fail but I am thankful for it to go like this and not any other was where I couldn't copy the data off. It wasn't anything important but it would have still be annoying.
