I get a lot of questions about my gear. You can read about it on the website here: www.shutupandp...
Thanks for watching. Cheers
80s solos were the best. Sheer indulgence. 🎸
The bend at 0.20 is the single best bend I have ever heard, from any guitar player in my life!
Oh I absolutely agree!!
That bend still hits the spot
That bend rocked the soul...Still standing the test of time - music like these should be treasured forever and after 🙏... nothing like old skool 🤘
Came back for some more
i agree, Sykes is amazing and his wide vibrato is spine tingling stuff- always has a great sense of melody too- well done- thanks
Hey Mark, thanks for watching man. Yeah JS is a great one, I especially like his slower melodic playing, he has such great feel.
His tone on 1987 was %💯 . Still of the night !!!
May be the best one yet. You nailed every facet of the original solo, note bending and all.
UNREAL...one of the best tones and feel sols ever! John Sykes so underrated. Where is your videos on HOW you master original studio tones?
This is just sick! I'm pretty sure Sykes can't do that. You found every single note and with perfect phrasing and tone. Identical to the original recording. I spend a lot of time doing this and you are hands down the best cover guitarist I've ever seen.
+Ralph Shicatano Thanks a lot Ralph!
+Dan Bridge Viv only toured with W.S., although he did overdub the solo on a single remix of Give Me All Your Love.
I agree Ralph...but to be fair Sykes was in another world on this album, he played like a madman genius on that album. He also made fuck you money lol.Never really had to work again. Great tutorial on how to play a really soul moving solo.
I think the 'bad boys' Tour shows that Sykes can play it (and sing the song) just fine. It's always the other guitarists, because sykes never played this with coverdale, who butcher this little masterpiece 'because they have to add their own flavor'. This tutorial however is awesome and gives this solo the respect iT deserves.
Clearly, you've never listened to much Sykes.
One of my all time favourite guitar solos, to get that 'feel' too is breathtaking
It's such a perfect solo with all the elements (Tone, feel, vibrato, personality, etc.) blending together so well. John Sykes is truly amazing and so are you. Great job.
Did Sykes do this solo? I always thought it was Bernie Marsden.
I thought it was steve vai
@@mrsnakepit Vai joined Whitesnake in 1989. How, dude...how could it have been Vai?
Killer. You have to love John Sykes and his big LP solo's! Thanks man!
Thank you so much for this lesson! You really helped me finally get this one down. Fingers were worked out but really fun to play once you get used to the crazy bends!
Absolutely beautiful song that I used to listen to over and over and over again trying to figure it out by ear and here it is over 35 years later and I'm still jamming this beautiful old song... Had to give you a sub 👍
This solo has that great "story telling" memorable quality to it
I've been subscribed to your channel for months now and have been having a great time learning some of my favorites through your lessons. I just came across this one as this has been one of my favorite solos since I was in high school back in '87 when this album came out. Always wanted to learn it, and now thanks to you, I have! Thanks for doing this one. I don't think Sykes gets enough credit for his playing and writing with Whitesnake.
Finally an accurate lesson for this awesome solo! I`ve never been able to get the fast end part to sound just right. This will help a lot. Thanks!
Thanks bro, yeah that fast lick is a tough one to hear for sure.
Well played.. Great saturated Les Paul tone... Just like the original...
Oh it's better than the original!
your tutorials are the best - to keep going just a bit backwards and put things into context. exactly how it needs to be done. also playing the solo at speed and slower at the start. really great technique. made me want a wine red LP too. ❤
You nailed it 100% , the tone imo is even better than on the original. Thanks a lot for sharing this lesson. Sykes is one of the most underrated guitarists. This song is just perfect and one of a kind. The solo especially should be given a monument.
This is the best guitar lesson ive seen on RUclips, thanks man whoever or wherever you are. And ive Subscribed! And what a Player!
You got the right on tone here. very nice indeed. subbed.
Now that's what I call a fuckin' guitar solo! It makes the hair on my neck stand up!
Wow! I've been playing guitar for 40 years and I have to say that you have the chops and the tone! Keep on rocking my man. More importantly, thank you for sharing I've learned so much!!
John Sykes is a genius, no need to mention this. One of the most beautiful solos ever written. And the way you sound and play it, full respect. I hope that one day, I will have the required technique blended with all the emotions to get this thing right. Thank you for this video!
Nailed it! Syke's vibrato is one of the very best.
Nice job on the sound and method. The most accurate version out there. I agree this is one of his greatest solos. Quality of over quantity (of notes) is where it's at. you've captured his unique feel very well. Thanks for sharing. BTW as much as I liked Vai's take there's only one Sykes.
Kenyon Denning Hey Kenyon, thanks a lot for taking the time to leave such a nice comment bro. I always liked JS's melodic stuff more than the shred. Hopefully he'll put out some new music one day. Thanks for watching bud, cheers
one of the best lessons i ve ever seen in youtube.. you re a such a great teacher as much as you re a guitar player bro !!!
MrWildHorse22 Wow! Thanks you so much for that! I really appreciate it. I'm glad you enjoyed the lesson. I really had a blast making this video. I've always really loved this solo and it was fun to finally work it out in detail. Thanks for watching. cheers
it's crazy how i thought about learning the end of this solo today, and you only just posted this video two days ago... must have been fate... thanks!
Hey rafael, haha funny how that works eh! Good luck with the solo bro.
I find myself wanting to watch all of your videos. I'm only about 20% but taking time to watch everyday. You are a phenomenal guitar teacher. Thanks for sharing
I've watched this video 100's of times and that is superb. I wan't to be able to do that someday. Beautiful sound.
Mark S Thanks a lot Mark. It's a tricky solo for sure, mostly because it's got SO much feel and to me that's THE most essential element of playing guitar, more than speed or knowledge or anything really. If a guy doesn't have feel, you can tell right away. I'm ALWAYS working on that part of playing. John Sykes was/is a great player, I mean he was extremely fast, but it's the slower stuff that resonates with me the most. cheers

You rock!! This song brings back so many memories. I want to be able play it as well as you.
man how to recreate that sound using vst plugin on daw
Always wanted to learn this one. Great tips!
Perfect solo right down to the tone. Best I have seen on youtube. Your teaching style is very good as well. Always been a fan of Sykes as well. Thanx for posting. Cheers
Slim mage Thanks Slim.
Your playing is incredible man. Have so much respect for it
Holy WOW did you nail every note and the bends were PERFECT!!! THANK YOU!!!
Great video, accurate translation and well explained... Simply perfect!
Great lesson, appreciate the attention to detail. I've seen many others on RUclips try and miss on this song, leaving out notes or adding ones not played by Sykes on this solo. Great playing, thanks for teaching me the correct way to play this solo.
I love RUclips. flicking through random videos and up you pop. Just an incredible player and great teacher too.
Excellent Lesson!!!! Your method is fantastic and I think we can learn very fast than we could imagine!!!!!
That's the best and most accurate I've heard on RUclips great job, it sounds just like the one on the album!
Great playing, great tone, great breakdown. Thanks a lot.
Daniel Lekardal Thanks Daniel. cheers
The part @ 5.00 is simple but I sometimes miss that 4th note or just goto octave by habit as I learned this from ear of vinyl many moons ago. I must practice this more as it's deceptively difficult to perform truly convincingly as to give the perfect smooth flow and silky feel of the original track. Kudos for showing how it's done properly mate.
Spam'n'egg. Thanks bud.
Great playing and great lessons. Like your tone as well. Keep 'em comin' man.
Is this the best solo ever? It's one of them!
Really some of the best lessons on the net.
LOVE YOUR STUFF MAN! TRULY MOTIVATING KEEP UP THE TUTORIALS!
Cristobal Rocha Hey Cristobal, thanks for the great comment bro, good luck with your guitar playing.
Fantastic lesson and explanation. Thank you!
This is totally awesome!! I am a big fan of all your tutorials.
Thanks Steve!
From 6:39 to 7:26 was not detailed in this lesson. Have to keep rewinding and stopping to figure it out (no biggie). Just wanted to point that out. I checked other comments, someone else did mention it. Great lesson, I'm a huge Sykes fan so I'm learning this and Still of the Night on my new Les Paul Tradish.
Thanks for the tutorial, so patient and thorough.
Great work , I'm 61 years young you never stop learning .
Hey Jack, you're SO right bro! You can play guitar your entire life and still just be scratching the surface.
absolutely amazing performance of a perfect solo. bravo!
Thank you for the lesson of my fav solo
Thanks for the amazing lessons! You are a great player too! Keep rocking bro!
Thanks for the lesson, really enjoyed it. Note for note one of Mr. Sykes best solos. Cheers mate !!!!!!
Really enjoying your videos. I found the Bo-Rhap solo video from Queen to be very informative, and this one likewise. Keep up the good work. Love your tone also, I have a collection of PRS that I use through a MESA MkIII, and with a PRS singlecut I can get a close approximation of Sykes' tone, but not as close as yours. Need to work on my tone... I'll check out some more of your vids soon. Kind regards.
The best performance. Perfect cover!
The best teacher!
sustain for days! love the lessons!
Pretty much note note, Tone was spot on, Thanks for posting!!
47Wolfgang Thanks for watching! cheers

Killer tone and superb interpretation
excellently taught.....
+Neil Groves Thanks a lot Neil.
Awesome lesson! Do have a lesson for the verse sections?
I agree he is underrated...Sick solo...You cover it extremely well...
Hey Brett, thanks for watching bro. Wonder if we'll see JS back in Whitesnake now that Doug Aldrich has left??
No doubt!!!
you ready for a concert?
My Lord that guitar is beautiful!!!
Awesome video man, I'd been struggling with the phrasing of the last bit for a while
You really nailed the tone. A detailed description of that would be cool. I've thought there must be chorus on it, but maybe it's just delay. Can you give delay settings for it? I know it was six years ago...
Brilliant guitar playing and lesson thank you! Subscribed for more delights!
A good guitarist on RUclips !!! Excellent job !
Unreal tone and feel
thanks for posting I'm stuck on this solo .. a few tips are always good ,and your sound is on key ...
Nice playing great lesson well done.
Thanks for watching bro.
This was more Sykes than the man himself, this solo was so good Coverdale wants to fire you lol. Spot on tone feel and vibrato. INCREDIBLE
Beautifully played!!
Great tutorial such a nice sound your getting
Wow. I'm gonna add to the great playing and great tone comments.
Guitar Whores Thanks!

mlg4035 Thanks!
Perfect solo cover!
Thanks for the lesson! It helped a lot!
Awsome cover man! I learned it by watching your video and I gave you a donation :) I will play this song at my wedding ;) Cheers
Janez Gorše Thanks so much! cheers
Awesome man... simply awesome!!!!
You did a great job on explaining how you had to break down the lead solo of this song ... Excellent player ... !!! If I could make one suggestion though ... the last lick just before all the harmony on end of lead ... It would be even better to slow down and or explain more in detail/depth the last lick ... Other than this, great guitar player ...
Ricky v Thanks for the nice comment bro. Good luck with the solo, it's one of my favorites.
It's an awesome cover and performance. You sound as Sykes.
Haha, thanks a lot bro. Hope it helps.
Obviously you're playing a Les Paul.. Which one in particular are you using? a Custom? Studio? Prophecy? Excellent playing, mate!
Thanks James. Here's a link to my gear page: www.shutupandplay.ca/gear.html cheers
Thanks.. That LP is absolutely beautiful. I'm drooling! I paid $2200 for my Firebird, just a couple pennies more than what Amazon wants for a LP Deluxe like yours lol Keep up the great work. I might settle for a LP Studio or Standard, until I work my way up. I'm playing a Jackson JS32 right now. I started at around 14, played for around 10 years, then hardly played at all for the past 20 years, and now recently getting back into it. I've got a blister on my middle fingertip, but soon it'll be back to leather like they used to be.
Rock on man!!
What a help thank you so much and keep up the fab work ..Rockin Bob
Bob Phillips You're welcome Bob. Thanks for watching.
Oh my goodness, what a tone
superbly played
You just got a subscriber dude u played so good! And a great sound man! What amp are u using?.. Anyway keep those vids comin so keep on rockin! ;) Cheers!
Thanks so much for watching Sander and for the nice comment. As far as equipment goes, I'm using an Egnater Renegade amp. For this track I also used a BB preamp pedal and also a Nova System through the loop for delay. I have Suhr Aldrich pickups.
Shutup & Play - Guitar Tutorials thnx for your reply..man u got some pro equipment.! I like the sound of mr doug aldrich. In my opinion the BEST sound of rock! Rock on bro!
Decent teacher. Subscribed.
Not unknown to me,used to watch him live in the early eighties when he was
Tygers of Pan Tang Lead guitar. Well ahead of the times back then.
Yeah it's really too bad that he's not putting anything out these days. Maybe one day though...
Massive tone, what guitar are you using? What pickups are in there? Great video. Thumbs up!
There's a link to my gear page in the description box below each video. I list everything I use there. cheers
Thanks very much!!
Thats an amazing guitar tone, i love it !!!!, could you tell me the model of this guitar and what pickups it has in it ?
Tiago Marques Hey Tiago, if you go to my latest vid
how to play "Run to You" by Bryan Adams on guitar - rhythm & solo guitar lesson
I list all my gear in the description box. Thanks for watching. cheers
Sorry man....i didnt searched for it, but thanks and keep rockin :)
best timbre ever
I really struggle with the sustain on the notes that I'm holding. They seem to fade out far too quickly. Any tips guys?
Just beautiful, man.
ace1usmc Thanks.
Great lesson! and amazing sound! how do you set your BB pedal to have this attack and sustain?
Matte23Pam Hey Matte, the BB helps a bit, but it's mostly the guitar, the Suhr Aldrich pickups and the amp. It's a really nice combination. The pickups have a little less high end, so I roll the bass off quite a bit, but I really like the tone I'm getting these days. Thanks for watching bro.
Great as always!!
Hey Mark, thanks again bro.
Awesome lesson bro thanks man bless u
