This video is not intended for children under the age of 14. Quite frankly, kids...I'm just some random old dude talking about nostalgic TV and movie stuff from a really long time ago and I highly doubt that it is going to interest you.

Seeing that Sears commercial makes me sad. I remember when I was a child my FAVORITE thing was when the Sears Christmas Wishbook came out. I would look and look. I looked at every page (even if it was not something I really would want). Kids today will never know the joy of looking at a Sears Christmas Catalog. Sad.
You and me both. The day the catalog showed up in my house was ALMOST as good as Christmas!
Yes! If I could go back I would in a heartbeat.
My dad worked for Sears and he'd get the Wishbook before it was sent out to the public. When he brought it home we made sure we were on our best behavior that night....lol! Great memories!
I remember circling items in the Christmas catalog that I never received. I think I am a better person for not being a spoiled child..
Dave, you always are respectful to the actors and their loved ones that you showcase on your channel. Thanks for remembering them.
Thank you so much for your kind words! I truly appreciate your support.
Very sad story Dave. As a mental health attorney I see this all the time. You never really know just how many people are suffering and then when you represent these people it’s mind blowing. Thank you for sharing her story. On a happier note, I loved the commercial! Boy did it take me back to my youth! And your song is terrific! If that’s you singing, you have a great voice! Thanks for sharing that too!😊🤗
I'm glad you enjoyed the commercial and the song! Thanks for sharing. 🙂
Very sad to hear of Kathy’s struggles in life. Thank you for shedding the light on mental illness and respecting her family’s privacy. So unfortunate for such a Young & Beautiful Actress. Without you Dave who will tell their story’s. Thank you ❤
Thanks for your comment. Truly appreciated!
NatureBoy-She's not the only one. I struggle with depression and anxiety myself. Being the victim of physical, verbal, and sexual abuse has taken a devastating toll on me. I keep my illness in check with medication, and I'm alive because Jesus still has work for me to do here on Earth. God bless you.
"You played with her chest?!?!"
No Fonz..Chess , it's a game..
Another actress who suffered with mental illness and dropped out after two huge movies, animal House, and Caddyshack, is now almost never seen and reclusive. She was the one in animal House, who played the mayors daughter, and the one in Caddyshack with the Irish accent, who is the girlfriend of the caddy.
Thanks for doing this one. She has been a favorite of mine for sometime. Kathy didn’t do much film or TV work, but what she did do was oh so very memorable! What a stunningly beautiful woman, truly breathtaking. And super talented as well! I have the book about her life and it is highly recommended. As a child she was one of the dancers on The Banana Splits. Also briefly appeared in Kojak and Sarah T. Portrait of a Teenage Alcoholic with Linda Blair! I’ve even seen the rare Bronk episode Kathy appeared in. Finally, Texas Detour is a great 70’s film which stars Priscilla Barnes from Three’s Company fame! May this beautiful woman Rest in Peace, she is not forgotten!!
Thanks for sharing!
She also played one of the "Sour Grapes" girls on the "Banana Splits" TV show in 1968.
I read about that!
Such a sad story. Hope she is at peace now!
Mental illness can be devastating for the sufferer...as well as those around them. Like you, I hope that everyone, including Kathy, has found peace. Thanks for all your support, Bob!
Dave, as you know Tom Bosley wasn't in the Happy Days backdoor pilot on Love♥ American Style. It was actor Harold Gould as Howard Cunningham. 🤗📺📼👍
I'm trying to remember the cartoon that featured Tom Bosley who
voiced the father of a character. There was a neighbor who was
afraid of commies. I don't remember if this was on Love American
Style or another program. There was a hippie son, like Meathead on
All in the Family. A daughter who wore glasses, and a mom. I'm
pretty sure Bosley voiced the character. I think the neighbor who
was always afraid of commies was the actor who play Warren in
Andy Griffith. One of the duos of Burns and Shriver. Maybe Burns
and Shriver should have done a pilot show. They were a good
team for comedy.
It was called "Wait Til Your Father Gets Home".
@@jdsundstrom Bingo!
Sounds exactly like what happened to Amanda Bynes. Adult onset Schizophrenia is pretty common. Amanda had a huge career with many TV and movie credits, then she fell into this inescapable void which she has never returned from.
You’re right. It seems like Amanda has really struggled over the past decade or so. Thanks for all your support!
The same with Jake Lloyd, who, as a kid, played Anakin Skywalker in “Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace”.
No, it is t very common at all, unless you think that less than 1% is common. It is estimated that 0.25-0.64% of the population suffer from schizophrenia. The fact that it is not a common mental illness is the reason why there is so little research being done on it. There has been a slight increase in cases that are believed to be related to the use of marijuana. Yes, marijuana is a dangerous drug that can cause physical and mental harm to a person. The biggest problem with those that have schizophrenia is that they don’t keep up with their treatment(s). When they are well medicated and have things under control, they believe that they are ok and don’t need to take their meds or see their doctors. That leads to them spiraling out of control again. Those that suffer from it need a really good support group to make sure they are following their treatments. It is important that their family and friends check on them, and do it multiple times a week if not daily. It is too bad that mental health issues don’t get the same attention that very treatable things, like breast cancer does. All of the money that has gone into breast cancer awareness would probably find a cure for many mental health issues.
I thought she was one of the most beautiful actresses i seen on the brady bunch and happy days. I was saddened to hear she died. I'm happy that you did a story on her.
Absolutely Love, Love, Love the song Dave!!!!!!
Thanks Jeff!
Rest in Peace, Kathy. May you live in a cloud of joy and peace.
So sad to hear of the very sad mental issues of this beautiful, young actress. I was once a psychiatric assistant and words can’t describe the pain of those suffering from this and other mental issues. Often patients with schizophrenia have their first episode in their teen years. I remember a young girl maybe about 15 with this illness, how sad for the patient and for all who love them. Thanks for sharing this story and for your respectfulness of both this actress and her family. May She Rest In Peace.
Thank you for sharing your perspective.
As soon as I saw Kathy's picture I remembered her on "The Brady Bunch" Thank You for telling her sad story. And love the "Howard" song.
Maybe a good time to do a story on James Darren who just passed on. Great guy❤
Thanks for the suggestion. I'll add James to my potential topics list.
She was a beautiful woman , I hope she is at peace now .
Thank you for taking the time to do this video, Dave! I hope you'll do one on Paulette Breen. She played Angela the pinup girl on the Ritchie Branches Out episode of Happy Days. Her story is also very sad and kind of similar to Kathy's.
Paulette Breen? I've never heard of her. Sounds like I've got some researching to do. I'll add her to my potential topics list.
Dave, you should do a video about the late great Erica Hagen. I’ll stand by my statement that she was one of the most beautiful actresses that ever graced the planet. A truly remarkable woman off screen as well. I’m sure you know who she is. Thanks!
Truthfully, I didn't recognize the name...but then when I looked her up and saw her picture, I remembered her from "Land of the Lost" and a bunch of other shows. I'd add Erica to my potential topics list.
Your song has a "Refreshments" kind of vibe. I love their album Fizzy Fuzzy Big and Buzzy. Nice work :)
I'm so glad you enjoyed the song. 🙂
So many stories like this. All of them worthy of note. From initial casting, to re-tooling tv shows, contractual disputes, to substance abuse and/or mental illness. I'm reminded of Sarah Holcomb who was in animal House and Caddyshack. There is also Amanda Walsh as Katie, the original love interest in The Big Bang Theory. Ellen Muth from Delores Claiborne and Dead Like Me. Julie McCullough on Growing Pains. Lisa Robin Kelly from That 70's Show. Jennifer Lien from Star Trek: Voyager. I'm not sure if it's just my POV but I can come up with a lot of instances of female actors but not as many instances of male actors but it does, of course happen on both sides. Oh wait, Jason Mewes, Jeremy & Jason London... just popped into my head. Of course there is the slew of child actors struggles. Leonardo DiCaprio's character in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood walks this fine line. They even did a movie called Stateside, roughly based on Sarah Holcomb's experience.
I'm very sorry to hear about Kathy O'Dare's experience. I don't like the idea of forgetting the good with the bad and I appreciate your pointing out these stories. Making the cover of Tv Guide back then was a very big deal. Being cast in a primetime show then was a very big deal. Flashes of brilliance and disappointments- very human condition type stuff.
Some of it also comes down to dumb luck. Zigging where you should have zagged. Right place, right time. Nepotism. Egotism. I have my own stories about working in Hollywood, stories I observed first hand, and those I heard about but never really reached the news.
Thanks so much for sharing, Sean. I know you've got a ton of stories that would interest our community here on RUclips. If you ever want to join me on a video to share a few...I would be elated. I truly appreciate all your support, my friend.
@jdsundstrom Yeah, we can talk about it, off camera, at first. I think if we can boil it down to a story or two, in keeping with the channel identity you want, we can figure it out. I know you're busy with a lot of stuff, so let me know when/if you want to pursue this.
The Jennifer Lien story upset me. My husband loved her character and then they got rid of her.
Always enjoy your videos my friend. You consistently take the high and positive road in your videos and I really appreciate that about them. Insightful content on this one and Yes I would love to see something on Kristopher Norris, she had that girl next door appeal about her. 👍😊
Thanks for the feedback...and keep an eye out for something on Ms. Norris in October.
Speaking about “happy days” one of the early recurring characters was Hee Haw regular Misty Rowe as one of the bellhops at Arnold’s! Hopefully you will do an episode once on that show. I don’t know if you ever particularly liked The Comedy and Music series.
Great suggestion, Michael. I'll add Misty and the Happy Days bellhops to my potential topics list.
Cool song! You have a good voice.
It was the AI doing the singing. 🙂
For me, the first season of Happy Days was the best and this episode was one of my favorites. I always thought Kathy was such a hottie but never really looked into her bio until a few years ago after I had bought the 1st season on dvd and saw the episode again and remembered how beautiful she was.. Was really saddened to read about the troubles in her life and that she died so young.
It was good to see Ron Howard and Henry Winkler together on the Emmys last night🩷
Yep. I enjoyed seeing the two of them together again as well.
@@jdsundstrom Especially when “Fonz” kicked the jukebox on👍🏻
Kathy O'Dare was ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL‼️ So Mr.Dave, you're thinking about doing a video on "Ripples", sounds like a plan! Another beautiful woman!🇺🇲📺
Yes, soon. 🙂
👌@@jdsundstrom
👌
Mr. Dave I just found out that Dawn Lyn is in serious trouble healthwise! As told by Stanley Livingston!! Please do a video on Dawn, thank you. @jdsundstrom
Hate to hear this happened to her Dave had no idea very informative buddy
00:56 I vividly remember this episode. I looked very much like Ron Howard growing up.
unfortunately, I was tagged with a nickname I didn't care for thanks to the resemblance.
being a young teen boy at the age of noticing girls I definitely had a crush on her back then.
Thanks for sharing!
She was great in a episode of the Brady bunch
Sad that she couldn't break out of her struggles.
Indeed. 😥
The other girl who appeared on her BRADY BUNCH episode, Denise Nickerson, who'd been a regular on DARK SHADOWS & was Violet Beauregarde in "Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory", also died too young at 62. She'd be a great video subject if she hasn't been already.
Great suggestion! I'll add her to my potential topics list.
My twin brother lived with schizophrenia
I'm so sorry to hear that, James.
Chuck Cunningham was a lot like Kris Carmichael and eventually her younger brother Jerry on The Lucy Show!
Well I guess it's safe to say it wasn't because of an issue with Ron Howard that caused her to be bumped from Happy Days, unlike Pinky.
Yep. It didn't have anything to do with Ron.
I remember Eat My Dust. It was the first time I ever saw Ron Howard outside of The Andy Griffith Show. I remember Dave Madden(Reuben from The Partridge Family)was in the film. Eat My Dust was part of a double feature. Grizzly was the second film that played after Eat My Dust. I enjoyed the movie.
Great tribute song to Chuck Cunningham.
I think the reason why she wasn’t on for the long run was because Richie was to be the nerdy boy next door who was unlucky in finding a girlfriend(I can relate). If she was Richie’s girlfriend, Arthur(Fonzie) Fonzarelli would just be a character who just acts tough. Not as a best friend or big brother that we all know and love. I can’t say it was a good call or a bad call. It just seemed like an inevitability that the decision to make Richie a socially awkward guy than have him have a girlfriend.
Mental illness is no joke. For one’s mind to be held prisoner to illusion, delusion and paranoia is frightening.
Thanks so much for sharing, Gary. And...I totally agree. We need to take mental illness more seriously in this country.
Dave Awesome ❤❤❤😮😮😮
She was very beautiful.
Sad and tragic. RiP Kathy.
This is so sad.
There's this one episode of Bonanza where Adam Cartwright discovers his lifelong best friend (whose wedding he was best man in) has become mentally ill, and has no choice but to hunt down and kill him. Joan Crawford appeared on an episode of The Virginian as a newly married woman who's struggled with mental illness following her first husband's death. While I'm on this subject - and this might surprise you, Dave - a few years ago I wrote a fan fiction story using the characters from Petticoat Junction. In the story, Steve Elliot and Orrin Pike are out turkey hunting days before Thanksgiving when someone shows up and gets the drop on them. That person turns out to be an old "friend" (I'm using quotations here) of Steve's from the Air Force, who showed up in one episode attempting to hit on the Bradley sisters. Once his friend, still in full Air Force uniform, gets the drop on he and Orrin, Steve, fearing for the safety of the sisters (including Betty Jo), has no choice but to kill his friend, thus saving Orrin’s life.
Thanks for sharing, Pryce!
Bonanza actor was James Coburn. The show was predictable,
and you were aware that the ending would be a bad one.
@@tomodonovan5931 Pernell Roberts played Adam, by the way.
@@prycerobertson4695 Coburn played the part of his best friend, yes,
Roberts played Adam Cartwright.
Well Done
Thanks Danny!
On the TV Guide cover, Kathy O'Dare kinda looks like Megyn Price from Grounded For Life & Rules Of Engagement. Very pretty.
You know, speaking of Happy Days...The term "Jump the shark" is used to indicate when a show has crossed the line of desperation & is doomed for cancelation. It comes from the Happy Days season 5 three-parter "Hollywood" where Fonzi is dared to jump a shark while on waterskis. Funny thing about that...Despite "Jumping the shark" being considered the kiss of death...HAPPY DAYS RAN FOR 6 MORE SUCCESSFUL SEASONS AFTER THE "JUMP THE SHARK" EPISODE😂
While "Happy Days" did run for many more seasons, I do think it was the "kiss of death" in terms of quality and continuity.
That’s a shame. Rip. I liked your happy days song tho.
Thanks!
Burger Chef was so much better than McDonald's. I am sad that they couldn't take over McDonald's.
I'm glad McDonald's is still around...although I wish it were more like it was a couple of decades ago.
What happened to Ron Howard's hair was even worse. His politics are worse than his baldness.
I don't judge people based on their politics. In fact, I remember a time when Republicans and Democrats could behave in a civil and polite manner when conversing with each other. Heck, sometimes they were even friends. 🙂
@@jdsundstrom I agree with you. However, recall how Howard (who/whom I call Opie Cunningham - you get the humor) forced Obama down Andy Griffith's throat shortly before Griffith died.
No one...and I do mean no one could force anything on Andy Griffith.
@@jdsundstrom That's what you think. When you see Andy Taylor ask him if he voted for Obama once or twice. BTW Griffith thought Jerry Van Dyke was a better actor than brother Dick. Why? Because he hated Dick. Plenty of ladies love Dick...
Once Scott Baio got on the show it started to go downhill
There are many more things that lead to the decline besides Scott.
@@jdsundstrom his acting was a big problem,he was horrible. His thing was tying a rag around his leg.sheez
Passed away at 22 ???? Try 52
Who said “22”?
@@jdsundstrom YOU DID.
Kathy was the goofy girl, who was Marsha's friend from school, who had trouble pronouncing, 'Seattle'😆. I can see why, she was in only, one episode. No shocker there🤔!!! Speaking of mental diversion; you went from her, to 'Happy Days'??? Why didn't you just stay, with your original subject???
Kathy has such a sad story. I remember her from Happy Days. And on the Brady Bunch. I pray she's finally at peace. Thank you Dave for bringing her story to light. 🕊️❤️🙏
You're very welcome, Leesa!
I’m very impressed with the song at the end. Dave, you’re a very talented singer/songwriter!!
Well...I only wrote the lyrics. The AI did the rest. 🙂
Howard Won't Talk is very entertaining! It sounds like essential mid 90s pop music, would fit in with Goo Goo Dolls, Dishwalla, The Wallflowers, and Gin Blossoms! Was that your target style?
OMG I miss Burger Chef. And great song - I'm going to be singing Howard won't talk the rest of today 😂
Hooray! I'm glad you enjoyed the song, Nicki. 🙂
Christopher Norris was in good company with Michael Learned!😉
I remember that TV guide but knew nothing about O'Dare. Thanks Dave!
👍👍
My pleasure!
Christopher is a guy's name, but so is Michael, yet actress Michael Learned played Ma Walton on the Waltons.
Good point, Kevin.
My best friend who recently passed away was schizophrenic, as was his older brother.
I'm so sorry to hear that. 😥
This is a great RUclips channel!
Yes, very sad story. I remember her from the Happy Days series premiere episode. A super pretty and personable actress. Rest In Peace Kathy O'Dare.
Thanks for sharing...and for all your support!
I'm glad her brother told her story, so many people with mental illness get hidden by their family because of shame or embarrassment. ❤❤❤
Thanks for sharing Dave❤🇨🇦
I bought me a set of water skis over there at the Sears and one of em broke.
Such a great commercial!
Christopher Norris would probably be a good story, but who's the girl on the hood? Anyway, you wrote the lyrics and AI wrote the music? What program did you use? I've fooled around with pics on AI sites, but didn't know you could create music.
Correct. The lyrics are mine...but everything else was created by AI. It's all done on this site: www.udio.com
Chuck Cunningham was in the same platoon as Mike Douglas from _My Three Sons_.
Two very fine fellers. 😢
The jingle is great about the character Chuck Cunningham.
I'm glad you liked it.
You were AI before AI became AI nowadays this song wouldn’t be that much of a big deal even though it would be but the fact that you did it yourself from scratch is like baking a cookie from basic ingredients rather than just opening up a frozen food container and microwaving it :-) keep up the good work as always another great video
Well...I wish I could take that much credit for it. I wrote the lyrics to the song...but AI pretty much came up with everything else on this one. Thanks for all your support, Keith!
Actress Joyce Jameson commited suicide due to depression she was one of the "fun girls" on The Andy Griffith show. She was 54 years old
So sad. I remember here in her Little Bo Peep costume on the Brady Bunch. She was so beautiful
So sad about Kathy O'Dare. As for your song, it's hilarious!
I'm glad you enjoyed the song. 🙂

Just wondering if you are a fan of The Critical Drinker?
I've enjoyed his videos in the past. Especially when he was talking about "The Acolyte".
@@jdsundstrom Cool, he's hilarious.
In the one episode she tutored Richie. She was a good actress. You did a really good job on this.
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
Dave, could you find out what happened to the young actor Brian Morrison, who played Maude's grandson on her show. I know he was replaced in the last season because they felt he was too old for the part
Just Google it.
I'll add him to my potential topics list, Jerry.
@jdsundstrom Thanks, Dave. The actor who replaced him in the last season of Maude was Kraig Metzinger, who also dropped out of sight after the show ended.
Really good video of a sad story. Curious about some of those other movies that she was in, they have interesting titles.
Before your video ended I was thinking of Chuck and saw he was born in Ireland and had the same last name as another actor named O'Herlihy.
Sure enough I just looked it up and discovered that Chuck-1's real life father is Dan O'Herlihy who is well known as the old man in charge of OCP in RoboCop as well as the villain in Halloween 3 and then of course he's also Grig in The Last Starfighter. When I saw the actor's name I wondered if they were related plus seeing that Gavin was born in Ireland, it seemed even more possible.
A lot of times I've noticed that when looking up actors if you see someone with the same last name oftentimes they're related. I guess since they try not to repeat names in Hollywood it makes it easier to find connections.
Looking forward to your wonderful world of Chucks video. I guess you could call it the Happy Days multiverse.
Per you request: ruclips.net/video/UQfuYtLuV-M/видео.html
well done with that song! I remember Chuck! As usual interesting info in your videos!
Thank you kindly
I loved the acting of Christopher Norris! Please do a story on her. She’s a hidden gem.!💎
Is that you singing or is it AI? Nice voice!
I'm working on that one right now. It will probably show up sometime next week.
Sadly 😥 I don't remember her. What a struggle she must have had.
(That was a really great song, Dave).
I'm glad you liked the song, Marlene.
Struggling with mental health is not fun. I know first hand. Great song
I'm sorry to hear that you've had struggles, Angela. Thanks for all your support!
Great 😊
Thanks 😊
@@jdsundstrom no problem 📼
There is one other little thing I did not care for it's when the sensors stepped in and started cutting little segments out of episodes and they started not making as much sense like when Ralph Richie and Patsy took up babysitting jobs and couldn't control the kids so Fonzie brought in his nephew Spike
and what happened to him....
I have a better theory about what happened to Chuck after graduation he went on to college disturbing something that cost a really big scandal through the college into turmoil and it got so bad he was put into the witness protection program and then vanished forever...😢... And then Danny post who played Ralph now left the show but they failed to make the episode of him receiving a draft notice to which there was no getting out of and then after that continue his character with the letters from Ralph....
Dave you're a class act! You handled that totally professionally ,👍
Good song too. Gotta add my 2¢ about Chuck disappearing , he was too late for Korea and two early for Vietnam, He actually became a minor player in the fairly recent NBA, got rich and disowned his poor middle class family
I like that theory!
