This is my favourite NDP song. Doesn't have those cliché phrases like reaching for the stars, red dot you know those words that you always hear in every ndp songs.
Finally, there's a NDP organising committee who invited Corrinne to write and perform a Song for Singapore. She is as Singaporean as one can get. Beautiful song, beautifully simply lyrics, and perhaps, one of the best songs since "Home".
You know, Singapore is not my country. But let me tell you, the passion, the responsibility and basically the love you people have is just unbelievable. It may be annoying for others, but really I understand the pride. Not just the yearly NDPs, it's just how the total people are. Singapore May not be my nation or my motherland, but it's my home and it's where I belong and I'm blessed for that. Some of you don't understand that, honestly.
Back in 2010, when I first went overseas, I fell in love with the city, the country, the diversity of humanity that is Singapore. And when I heard this song, this was my first knowledge of Ms. May... I instantly loved it, and has never left my memory. I miss Singapore. I hope to be back there soon.
One of my most ‘nostalgic’ and best national day songs for the 2010s. It is often played at the parades since the release and it has been appearing more especially now.
Year after year, this remains my favorite national day song for its simplicity and sincerity. Corrine May's beautiful voice, paired with the sing-able melody and sincere lyrics (encouraging us to simply sing a song for our country to show thankfulness), makes this a heartfelt song.
i totally with netix75 SINGAPORE ROCKS i'm from united arab emirates; i live in dubai ! this song is VERY BERY beautiful ! i went to singapore two years ago, i was immediately charmed by this country ! this country is very unique and surely the most beautiful of asia ! i love the downtown district ! singaporeans must be proud of their country, because you made so many things in 40 years my final words will be : happy birthday singapore ! sorry for my bad english :)
...wow, this song simply blew me away!! corrinne may's not only gorgeous, she's very talented too...the song is poignant & uplifting at the same time! btw, i thot the the mature theme & sound of the song is apt for a 45 yr old nation...
back here as i always am every 9th August. the song is so simple, yet so touching and heartfelt. my favourite part (when i can't hold my tears back anymore) is the bridge: We've had our ups and downs. Sometimes the best things are taken for granted... You're my family, you're my home. Just wow. What a way to show appreciation for one's country and one's countrymen. yeah i'm emotional right now.
This song is the best National Day song (alongside Count on me Singapore and We Are Singapore) to date, it leads the trend for the subsequent 2 songs have similar 'style' that this song plays (In a Heartbeat and Love at First Light)
Yay, I've been waiting for the mv to come out since yesterday. I've been a fan of Corrinne May for awhile now and it's such great news to know she'll be singing for this year's NDP. Been anticipating this moment, and as usual Corrinne always never fails to impress with her melody and beautifully penned lyrics. It would have been better if she could have appeared in the mv, but oh well I'm not complaining. The beautiful song is more than enough >3
First time I heard this my eyes swelled a little with tears.. not trying to be drama .. its so soulful and it captures something I could not express. Corrinne May great singer!
Written by a first class song writer and singer, seasoned with her personality and capturing her unique perspective... refreshing to hear the words grateful, thankful and content in a song about S'pore. Though sadly those concepts are as foreign to most of us as is courtesy on public transport :P Go Corrinne!! woo hoo!!
Wow, i didnt expect to hear a wonderful piece this year for the NDP theme song. I hate those composed by Dick Lee. Corrine May really showed how to capture the essence of class and melody into her NDP piece this year. Im impressed. Well done! Corrine!
I am a singaporean, I have heard all the NDP theme songs . But I truly have to say that this song was the best !!! Thanks, Conrrine May for singing this song beautifully.
Corinne May is the type of singer that touches through everyone's heart! But congrats that she's already a mother! Happy birthday singapore! 45 years of independence! :D
How nice if this is our Singapore National Anthem Song ... Great piece of work by Corrinne May~* Finally a decent piece for our NDP celebration! Congrats!
I love singapore very much! I feel very lucky to be a singaporean and to live in such a multi-racial and peaceful country. Social cohesion is observed and we get to experience many unique cultures and languages. HAPPY BIRTHDAY SINGAPORE! :D
Let me tell you a story guys, way back 10 years ago when I I boarded my first tanker ship in singapore, I was a messboy and every morning while I arrange chairs, clean the tables and wash plates, this song is playing on TV after the Singaporean national anthem. And then during the singapore day, our captain invited me to go outside and watch the event. It was an awesome parade and Airshow and even though We didn’t have a chance to go inside the arena where the real show took place, what I saw outside was enough to love this country a lot. We also have these kind of events in my country but not nearly as organized as how SG does it. People are disciplined and the event starts and ends on the time that they should. Oh did I mention that it’s the country where I met my wife? Yes that’s correct. I love SG!!!!
idk for you guys but im in the states now and when i saw this video, it just made me so proud to be a Singaporean! and Singapore is really the best place to be! okay. exclude the weather and its the best! :)
I am Grateful to be a Singaporean. I do not care if anyone hates this song, as long this is always in my heart, the rhythm will echo in my ears, the lyrics made me have mix emotions... Sad or not, Singapore is my family and i appreciate where am I. Our journey is not over, so be happy where you are...
Someone sent me the link to this video, saying it sounds "totalitarian", but I like this song and think it sounds beautiful and patriotic (in a good way). I am an American, and know only a little about Singapore aside from the fact that they cane people for minor offenses. While I have heard the government can be a bit repressive, Singapore is also a great place to live, and has a lot to be proud of. This song is very fitting. Go Singapore!
I didn't care for this song when it first came out, but now upon relisten it's a really nice song with an inspiring and humbling message. Can't wait for the 2011 song!
Nice song! I really like this song very much! Sometimes , I tried to sing along too. Because it's very nice! I like Corrinne May , she's creative to sing this song. Thanks , Corrinne May! :D
This song is too underrated ~ Nostalgic
This is my favourite NDP song. Doesn't have those cliché phrases like reaching for the stars, red dot you know those words that you always hear in every ndp songs.
Her voice is beautiful too
"Singapore" is a cliché phrase, sorry to break it to you
Well, there's always Mr Brown's version...
So quickly,10 years have passed? Never knew this was such a old but gold song
I know right!??
It was such a motherly NDP song by Corrinne May in 2010.
14 years :)
Finally, there's a NDP organising committee who invited Corrinne to write and perform a Song for Singapore. She is as Singaporean as one can get. Beautiful song, beautifully simply lyrics, and perhaps, one of the best songs since "Home".
Hello after 14 years!!
This was by far the best ndp song. They should play it more often in schools:)
No its not
It was the first ndp song I remember.I was 8,P2.

@@-Dhan0_6- Honestly,I like this song more than 'Home'.
My p2 ndp song.
Yes totally agreed!
You know, Singapore is not my country. But let me tell you, the passion, the responsibility and basically the love you people have is just unbelievable.

Singapore May not be my nation or my motherland, but it's my home and it's where I belong and I'm blessed for that. Some of you don't understand that, honestly.

this song aint dull. comeon, its kind of exudes nostalgia, reflects on the past, the history of singapore.
My primary school played this every morning before the assembly. I remember that year was the YOG and both songs were played together!

There's finally a song since all those years back, that actually does justice to the title of "NDP Theme Song". Well Done Corrinne May!
I've listened to all the NDP songs from the 80s' till now, and I think this is the best.
Sang this song during pri 5 at the Padang. Fond memories back then. Happy 49th birthday SG :)
Same hahhaha lolol
same hahaha it really brings back memories and how good the songs are in that time
Totally a breath of fresh air. Kudos for Corrinne May. Simple yet soulful, without 'ambitious' words yet with depth.
For some reasons I do very much indeed loved this song.... I feel the lyrics has a gospel feeling to it....
