After a goose-bump performance like that, no other Singapore NDP song can surpass it. Credit must go to Dick Lee, the cultural medallion winner, who wrote it. Truly emotional when you see it against the breath-taking Singapore skyline. No one can do that song like Kit Chan. You go, Girl.
Singapore is not my home country. BUT. I have lived there for 9 years and been a PR. My family moved somewhere else but I've wanted to stay in Singapore. I love Singapore. I want to tell you fortunate Singaporeans this; don't take things for granted, like the MRTs, Busses, NEWater and so on.. Treasure it. Happy Birthday, Singapore. No matter what, Singapore will always be my real home. Once again, Happy National Day, Singapore.
Me too I was born in Malaysia has lived in England New Zealand and Singalong Singapore is still the most beautiful Miss my Ghim Moh Market Char Kway Teow uncle
As a Filipino who was given the opportunity to study, work and build my dreams in Singapore for almost 10 years, I cannot help but express my gratitude. This song always makes me teary-eyed as I recall my lived experiences there. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Singapore. Even though I have left, know that you will always be a part of my journey. Until I visit again.
The most legendary song. the one song that invokes home. whenever the song is sung, it brings goosebumps when the whole Marina Bay crowd sings together, echoing the whole bay. amazing feeling. Almost another anthem on its own
A sad day for a Singaporean living overseas on hearing the passing of Mr Lee Kuan Yew. Born 2 years after independence, I lived through most of the tough policies made by his government, especially bilingualism and a academic excellence. Both are not my forte. Looking back, because of Mr Lee's vision, I am able to become a global citizen. Singapore will always be my home and as my friend call me a proud Singaporean. Thank you Mr Lee for not giving in to social pressure to shape Singapore to become a respectful country, a true melting pot for racial and religious harmony. Always first a Singaporean. RIP Mr Lee.
AGREE. I was from the era that lived through the tough/experimental policies too. They were also very wise in paying attention to what worked, what did not and revamped/reinvented accordingly. A heavy day indeed, when the inevitable finally happened. 1) SG lost many Singaporeans abroad with enforced bilingualism standards. But in retrospect, once we leave it's so apparent what a huge disadvantage being monolingual/monoculture is (whether it be English only/or Mandarin/Cantonese only). I am very grateful too, that Singaporeans assimilate so easily as global citizens, since we are so exposeed to East + West. My heartfelt sincere THANK YOU to Lee Kwan Yew (and his team-mates) for all the exceptional contributions he dedicated to Singapore, especially in solid investments in our education and ensuring we emerge bilingual, and laying our foundations for going on to being multi-lingual.In education though rigorous and always conscious, they were also very wise in paying attention to what worked, what did not, sent study teams everywhere to study various systems ... re-evaluated/ revamped/reinvented accordingly. This is something NOT many countries do ... they just keep spinning and perpetuating mistakes or anything that does not work well.2) Melting pot multiculturalism - I have not seen diversity existing so harmoniously and seamlessly successful elsewhere, although those other countries also profess to be 'multi-cultural societies'. Be it culture, language or partaking of each other's cuisines and festivities .... only in SG have I truly experienced this colorful melting-pot.(I actually don't know this song, although I am a long time admirer/appreciater of both our homegrown talents Dick Lee and Kit Chan. Just looked it up after hearing it upon his passing).'Home' - what a beautiful song and naturally befitting for the occasion. Home is where the heart is - mine is/never will be in my adopted country. Someone also abroad summed it up best: 飲水思源(I actually don't know this song - looked it up after hearing it upon his passing).
Wendy J i would never be able to understand it as much as those from his era. Im a 13 year-old student, but ive admired his work since i was 7. I admit that i was more upset than my classmates when my past-principal (im in sec school now) told us the news, so i couldn't help but tear up a little. Most of the students didnt know much about him, but the teachers were definitely saddened.
I moved to Australia in 2010 when I was 8 so I would consider myself more Australian than Singaporean but I still acknowledge my roots and where I came from. It's strange because I still remember very clearly about having assemblies in Primary 1 (I only did one year of primary school until I moved) and singing the national anthem and pledge. I also remember singing Home and Count on Me Singapore so clearly. It shows that although I am so integrated into the Australian culture, I will still always have a part of me in Singapore.
I am working overseas and we were having a function where Singaporeans gather together to watch NDP live. And when this song came up, the room suddenly turned quiet, everybody almost at the verge of tears. Thank you Kit Chan, for this lovely song.
Brings tears to my eyes, even now - so beautifully written by Dick Lee and conveyed by Kit Chan. Need we another National Day song for the sake of change? This is the very best national song and who we are as a people and nation. We will cherish our 50 years and the memory of our founding father Lee Kuan Yew and his team. Let's preserve the best of what LKY and his team stood for and continue to flourish. We aren't without our problems as any country in the world, but we're proud to be Singaporean. Wish everyone here a blessed and happy 50th Anniversary of our country Singapore!!!!!
Home - is truly a heart warming song. But what makes this version so extraordinary is the backdrop of the Singapore city skyline and the Marina Bay in it's splendour at night. This grips the hearts of all Singaporean, especially those that have been away from HOME. And the final icing comes with the Singapore National Anthem immediately after. Home Truly.
till this day ,.. this is the only ndp song, tht never failed to tear me up .. haiz. miss those days, when i truly felt belonged in my own country ............
Though I am far far away from home, when the entire nation is mourning the passing of Founding Father Mr Lee Kuan Yew, I too am feeling a deep sense of sadness because I AM A SINGAPOREAN. Thank you Mr Lee for giving all Singaporeans a safe and wonderful HOME. My condolences to PM Lee Hsien Loong and family. RIP,dear Founding Father Lee, you will always be remembered! With gratitude from Melbourne,Australia.
24/09/2022 still listening despite I am a true blue Singaporean I will always remember this song. The best National Day Song thus so far!! Salute Singapore and proud to be a true blue Singaporean.
Being away from home, I thank Kit Chan from the bottom of my heart for this flawless performance. This is one of my all-time favourite NDP songs, along with Tanya Chua's Where I Belong and Stefanie Sun's We Will Get There.
Brilliant !! Felt strong emotions in me after listening to this song and being away from Singapore for a long time..Bravo, Kit Chan and Dick Lee!! U made Singaporeans proud !!
It was one of the great moments to see 'Jewel Changi' vortex show (6 AM) with the song of 'Home'. It is 'Singapore' itself. Emotional History of the past and current.
I was watching from outside the arena, and even from there, when Home's opening notes started, the atmosphere was electric, you could sense it across the Padang and beyond - a very special moment in a truly great NDP
I agree 100%. We need to preserve our Singapore's identity and not be diluted by foreigners who came into our shore thinking Singapore belongs to them!
Working in Shanghai for years and hearing Kit Chan sing Home, I just cry and cry and cry. Looks like I’ll have to go to Sergeant’s Chicken Rice again today, and then pick up some Bah Gua at 美珍香 on the way to sooth the heart that misses my home so much.
Singapore will forever be my home cos it is the place where I grew up, the place where I learnt, the place which gave me opportunities to become who I am, and the place where my families and friends are. Some people're always so cynical n criticize the govt all the time, but who takes a step back to realise that Singapore is the place where they grow old too n they want the best for their home too? SIngapore is my home now, and it forever will be, no matter what it will go through in the future.
It brings me back to my secondary school days, during our national day celebrations. Amidst all the national songs we would sing, Home is the only piece that would send the entire assembly bursting into song and life the entire mood. thank you kit and dick, Home still remains my favourite. & Kit, this song is truly yours.
Being an overseas Singaporean, this song makes me homesick each time I hear it! I love this song out of all the NDP songs! =D I'm so glad Kit Chan came back to sing it!
2020 will be an unforgettable year of celebrating National Day. The majority of the Singaporeans will be staying in the country to celebrate this important day.
I was there when she sang this song at the parade live... she was just so fabulous, so lovely, so amazing, just so WOW... My wife who usually get jealous when I praise another woman couldn't disagree with me on this one... haha :-)
i used to love this song and my country. Now i listen again, i got this mix feeling, being singaporean for 3.56 sec and feel like i am overseas once again. Free holiday but only emotional HOLIDAY. :P BUT I STILL LOVE SINGAPORE CHEERS
What a beautiful sight...sigh. Here I am in the plane still up in the air and I'm looking out to get the first glimpse of land . And then I sight Singapore! This undescrible feeling is always inside me. The landing into Changi Airport is when the plane touches down and I'm home. Happy and smiling and so proud to know that passengers around me are impressed with MY country and the friendly people. THIS IS MY HOME TRULY.
So proud that we have such a great singer! =) She always could sing live so well. After so many years, it just get even better with this latest version cos she inject so much feel and emotion inside. Its difficult not to connect with her! A really big contrast from the young stars who performed that night. You could already tell from the crowd response....
This song and only sang by kit chan also gave me goosebumps. Of all Singapore Songs, only this song truly create such outstanding and awesome sensation!
I will always cherish my home in Singapore, my heartfelt gratitude to our late founding father, Mr Lee Kuan Yew. He had sacrificed his life all these years- toiled and laboured to build this small dot in the world map.
I was at the Marina Promenade last nite when I heard this song being played. Din know til later that Kit actually sang it live. wow...shes really good ;-)
