The washing machine looks like it was set at the maximum 90C. That will massively increase your energy consumption and therefore bills. Rarely necessary to use over 30C nowadays with most washing powders or liquids, and less chance of damaging or shrinking clothes!
I was just going to say the same thing. 30° wash normally takes about 30 to 45 mins. 90° wash will take about 2 hours and use loads of energy. Great buys there from your mobile grocery shop.
All my washing is done on a quick wash cycle at 30 degrees (about 35 minutes) unless very dirty, and I only use about 1/3 of the washing liquid they suggest on the packet. My cloths never shrink and are always clean. I also use white vinegar as a cloths softer instead of the other stinking chemical stuff the shops sell.
Hi Sean, thank you for your video. I am so enjoying seeing your cottage and the cosy way you have made it. My grandfather arrived in Cape Town , South Africa from Montgomery Wales in the 1930s. I never met him but my father would relate many stories about life in Wales which his father had passed on to him. I visited Wales fifteen years ago. I loved it from the minute I arrived. Take care Gale.
A potch around..that is an expression I have not heard in an age,,,,, from Neath originally but living in Japan for 23 years.......My family are Japanese, but they understand your accent.....Miy students too have Welsh accents!!! Thank you so much for the videos,,,,,,,,,we truly enjoy the relaxing and interesting way you tell a story.........
ok Sean, you could use white vinegar to get rid of that green stuff on your gutters & down pipe, kills weeds as well, works for me . Just put some in an old plastic spray bottle.
Lovely early start to Sunday. Sean I live alone and apart from bedding and towels I now do all my laundry on quick 30 wash and all done in half an hour with extra spin also.
I use a quick 20 min programme for coloured clothes, dog gear etc, and a 40 deg cycle for whites, but I can shorten the time from 2hr 21 to 1 hr 35 on my machine.
Definitely lower the temperature on your washing machine and on a 1000 spin once you get your clothes outside on the line they will dry in no time. Your living room looked lovely and cosy in the evening, the cats must be loving it.
A simple exercise to realign the back. Stand up straight, raise your arms above your head, count to five then gently lean back with arms still raised. Return to upright. Lower arms and feel the benefit. It was a nice surprise this Sunday to discover a new video uploaded 🙂
Hi Sean. That washing machine is the very one I have! Wash all your stuff on ‘daily load’ which is about half an hour and only towels and sheets on cottons 60 degrees. That all works out fine. I like your room; lovely and cosy. xx
Hello Sean, I remember when my mum and dad moved into our house that they decided to dig up a large square patch in the back of the garden to grow some veg,but somebody had buried an old metal spring bed frame there! We got rid of the frame but decided to put the greenhouse there instead! I also try to use up everything in the food stocks before shopping again,i can't dont like wasting food and its cheaper in the long run.good to see you planning your garden,a true sign of you feeling at home.take care Sean 💜
As you were digging away Sean we were wondering if burials from past pets could be the reason behind all the plastic bags. Hopefully not. I think the concrete bag could be a project one Sunny afternoon for Rusty that sounds really sweet… although you have plenty to be going on with it seems. 30° woollens 40° clothes 60° bedding and towels is fine. But if you use pods I’ve found one in the drum and one in the draw on a 40° works perfectly well. (Own opinion of course) but for the amount of washing for one person I’d definitely keep it at 40° for all items. How lovely to bump into a fan as well? that’s because you are so good at what you do and we all do enjoy your content. Lovely to see you enjoying the show and your evening. Have a peaceful & blessed Sunday young man ❤
Don't be surprised on how much of an impact you are making Sean.....you are inspirational! My friend Jac,in Holland is coming over in May and we are contemplating giving the secret tearoom a visit we were so impressed. It's about a 2 1/2 hour drive from me......keep up with the content!! lovin it!!
How lovely to meet up with your viewers like that Sean! So many people love you and your videos 💕 Hard work in the garden but as you say , you will get it all done 💯
Our back garden was the same when we moved in to our house, someone used it to dump everything from household to building waste over the years and just overed it! We must have taken two or three carloads of rubbish to the tip!
I can remember in the 70s when I was a young boy my nans garden had things buried everywhere.she had a tall hedge and if you peered inside there were old bycicles in the middle of it.and where she had bonfires there were bed springs poking out of the ground
I wouldn't put washing on at 90 degrees it's too hot and will use a lot of energy. I don't think you should put everything on a quick wash either as it doesn't clean everything properly. I put my washing on 40 degrees for 1 hour. I really enjoy your vlogs, and I am very excited to see how the garden takes shape over the next few months.
just a little dishwashing sponge with bit of soap& warm water will scrub up your white gutter downpipe nicely. A soft broom will reach the undersides of your gutters. Just do a little bit at a time to pace yourself on these jobs. 😊👍
I moved into a house with a back garden similar to yours. I look our of the kitchen window at a white wall and the top of my wood store. I planted sweet peas on the top of the wall and I let them cascade down the wall instead of having them grow up. It could work in your garden. Good luck as always and thank you for your smashing videos.
I always put my washing on a quick wash as clothes aren't really dirty. It's very quick. If anything is stained I put them in a bucket overnight with hot water and washing powder. You could make a chunky vegetable soup with the veg, chop up bite size pieces cook in water ( I am Coeliac so use gravy granules and if needed a bit of cornflour to thicken).
If it was my space and time your patch of green would be more than enough garden for me! A beautiful rose would be great along with some vegetables and annuals. Then add other perinerials as time and money allows
That bag of cement was a surprise! Take a look at your washer book and find the times per setting. I use my 30 minute setting for all my clothes that are lightly soiled. The 2 hour setting usually is for sterilization or bedding. I also have a 50ish minute one that I use for my garden/work clothing. Also check and see if you have a user setting that you can program yourself, some of the newer washers have them. It was wonderful that a channel viewer made the trip to see the show and you were able to meet them. Please be careful digging in strange soil. You never know what's been buried.❤
Look online Sean at the machine you have it will give you all the info you need, you had it on a cotton wash the longest wash and the hottest wash you only need a 20 or 30 degree wash. Paint the piece of concrete use it as a feature ie a flower 🌺
Sean turn your washing machine to the quick wash ..turn it down to 30 ..I use my 20 min wash then do a extra spin....your bills will reduce a 20 min wash and extra spin cost 15p your wash is costing 60p ...
Also what other people are saying: you don’t need to wash at 90 if the machine was on that. That will really cost a lot on your electricity. I use max 60 for towels. End sheets etc and 40 for everything else.
Having a green grocer visit your neighbourhood is such a great tradition. The veggie look so fresh. Lucky you. What a nice tribute to you meeting up with viewers at the show. Your channel is so entertaining. I look forward to every new episode. Keep doing what you are doing. 💕👍🏻🇨🇦
Good morning Sean hope you are well, looks like you are really settling in your new home and I'm so pleased for you. The lovely couple and their dog are a perfect example of how much you are loved and appreciated far and wide, even though the majority can't show it. Best wishes
On that garden bed, could you add soil to slope to the wall? Maybe would get more sun. That concrete seemed to be In similar bags, I think someone just had leftover concrete after finishing a project. Since the soil only needs to be about 15 inches. Maybe pull a bunch of soil out and drop all the bricks and bits of concrete back in, it would help with drainage, lay some hemp matting on top to keep the topsoil from sinking into the underfill too quickly. I really enjoy your vlogs, I’m a cat man too. Cheers from San Diego
You’ve earned your cuppa Sean ☕️ Your garden has such potential. I love it. I put my washing machine on quick wash of 28 Minutes at 30 degrees. If anything is stained I deal with it before washing and it works fine. Your videos do mean something Sean, your following shows it. I enjoy them very much. Thankyou 😊
Just caught up with your last few videos Sean, fabulous as always. Can’t wait to see the garden in the height of summer. What beautiful gifts you have from people too. Ps my eldest is now watching you 😂 which is massive compliment as she doesn’t go near our videos 😂 I hope you’re enjoying your Sunday evening! Tracy
I do all my washing on the quick wash and if anything is dirtier than normal I just put it on the quick was once more, it has always come out nice and clean.
Don't recycle that big paper bag yet! Cut a hole in the bottom, fold over the top an inch or two to strengthen the bag, and then give it to the cats! There is nothing more fun for a kitty than a paper bag with a hole they can poke their paws out of and that they can run in an out of. Such joy for kitties when they can make the rustly crumply noises of a paper bag..
Sean, I’ve got the same washing machine as you and the programs are really long on there, we always use the down wear 40 setting as it’s the shortest wash that gives you to best wash (1hr 40 I believe) we found the quick wash setting wasn’t cleaning the clothes properly 👍🏻
Your videos do mean something. They make threads of connection with people around the world, emphasizing our common humanity. They're a reminder that we can choose other ways than the rush to over-consume that's becoming endemic in western and westernizing culture. I'm comforted and encouraged by your videos. I too live with depressive disorder and chronic fatigue; I have a cat and a small garden and a deep desire to grow food and flowers.
I use the quick cycle on my washing machine. If something is stained I use stain remover powder and either soak it in a basin or add the short soak cycle to the quick wash. I use 40 deg wash or cooler and add Astonish protect & care laundry cleanser.
With regard to putting a freezer in a cupboard: Is there an electric socket in the cupboard? Trailing a flex under the door is not good for safety and leaving the door open, means you are adding more volume to your heated space. Measure the space under the slope. The lid still needs to open unless you get a commercial ice cream freezer with a sliding top!😋🤣
We bought a rural home 5 acres in upper midwest U S. there wasn’t a garden previously and we started from scratch 6 years ago. Its amazing how much trash like metal and glass is in our plot! A Most every time I go out another piece has worked its way to the top. Sad really. Gardening is tough enough! I cant wait to see how your garden progresses.
Hi Sean that was a lovely and thoughtful gift to receive and so nice you meeting your subscribers. I always do my washing on a quick 30° wash as nothing is really dirty, i do my bedding on a higher temperature though. So nice to see you pottering in the garden, roll on the good weather. That was a lovely gesture getting a mention on the programme. Your home is looking very cosy and warm. Enjoy your week 😊
that back yard will make an awesome terraced garden. focusing on it you won't have time or energy for an allotment. hey keep digging no telling what historical treasure you just might unearth. love your videos looking forward to seeing more of your kittens. i have three and one of mine rides on my lap in the wheelchair and "helps" me in the greenhouses. Lays down on whatever i'm planting and dup up the shallots.
Blimey Sean, that 90 degree cotton wash is the longest hottest one, almost boiling and will likely shrink cottons. A 30/40 degree wash will do for everything. Have a look through the handbook and compare energy. There is a cottons eco 40 that will save you money for a big wash, sheets, towels, shirts and undies Also if you have room in your fridge. Carrots keep for weeks under water in the fridge
My washing machine 'regular wash' setting takes 47 minutes. It's the one I do most things except woolens on, and I always do cold washes once I realised that the washing got just as clean without running up a big hot water bill using hot water.
I enjoyed the time you spent in the garden. I don’t have a garden anymore, just a tiny, north-facing balcony. I get vicarious pleasure from watching you till the soil 😄
I tend to wash all my clothes on the woollens setting. It's 40mins and gentle enough for whatever you put in. As I live alone too, I don't often get big piles and my fleeces, knitteds and woollens all go in together. You may find the manual online and find out how long and intense each program is.
Hi Sean, as lots of others have said pick daily quick wash 30c on your washing machine. That should be fine. If you find for whatever reason that's not doing the job the Synthetics 40c program would be my next choice as usually cottons programs last a lot longer than synthetics ones. But usually 30c will do the job. In the warmer weather, I set the spin to 1200rpm once I can hang clothes outside which will take the time down too. It might say in the booklet that came with your washing machine how long the programs take hopefully? Meant to say in your last video those floor sweeper are really useful we have one too! Was nice to see you out in garden looks like you'll have plenty to do! I was out enjoying the sunshine too as long as I was out of the cold wind I was fine. Glad you enjoyed Turning the Wheel looked like a very professional production judging by the clip you showed!
the house I live in has two raised beds, one of which seems to have been used as a burn pit - largely for beer bottles. 12 years later and I am still picking out bits of glass, and bottle tops from the rest of the garden areas! Goodness, your washing machine sounds like a jet airplane! A freezer is an excellent idea - it will save you time and money - you can freeze milk,a whole can be frozen, briliant for batch cooking as well.
That was a nice subscriber that sent you all the cold medicine! I enjoyed this video too. It's fun watching you open parcels and I loved the rich looking dirt that you turned up in your garden! My dirt (Arkansas,USA) is full of white quartz rocks and it's white in color. When I plant I have to make raised beds and buy the dirt or use containers on my porch.
I use 40 degrees for most things. For really bad stains I'd go higher but that's rare. Just like you, the first thing I go for when I get in is the kettle to make a cuppa tea. I love my tea. It relaxes and refreshes. Your videos are so professional, a joy to watch.
Living in Wales now but lived in Kent and Greater London before moving back to Wales although I visit regularly to see my son and grand daughter...I really enjoy your vlogs as they are a retreat from the hustle and bustle of todays fast living..cant wait to see how your gardens turns out..
You need only a 30 or 40 wash for normal washing , Max washing is usually when you need a really hot wash for things like white cottons etc.. I usally do a 30 to 40 wash put it on again for a quick spin. Watching you working in the garden a rambling rose would look lovely on that stone wall. It was nice to meet one of your fans after seeing the show. Shows people are interested in your videos.
I think a chest freezer is a great idea. I miss having a freezer , or two, and have not for years since it’s just me. I’ve often thought of a small one as well. I see things on sale and to be able to use for fresh fruits and veg. I realy enjoy your videos.
I use 30 minutes wash on 40 degrees for my clothes as I am in the bath twice a day so clothes are relatively clean unless I’m muddy at the horses. I use hot for bedding and towels, t - towels etc. Washing machines and kettles use a lot of energy . My nan had a twin tub , you had to wait for the water to heat up and she’d slosh the clothes around with a wooden truncheon 😅. Imagine that now 😊
Hello Sean from Kansas 🇺🇸 I discovered your videos a few weeks ago and really enjoying ‘your story’ ~ my mom was born and raised in Rhonda Valley (many moons ago) as a teenager, when her family family moved to Devon she had to learn the English language! I was raised with a mom speaking Welsh (but mostly English with that beautiful fluid Welsh accent) I hear a lot of her ‘expressions’ and ‘sayings’ through you, so thank you for that. Lovely to see parts of Rhondda through your lens and I’m wishing you a healthy, happy year as you settle back into that lovely countryside - time to put the kettle on - as a kid myself growing up in Devon, the kettle never got cold, any time was tea time! Good luck as you tackle your back garden (I have a feeling you’re going to do just great) take and enjoy each day as it comes along. I left UK in 1969 for Kenya and then transferred to the United States where I raised my family and I’ve always had my beloved cats in all the years, wouldn’t want to be without them. So, all in all Sean, you’re a tonic to tune into, so please continue your videos when you can because they are reaching more people than you think….All the Very best to you ~ Lyn, a Brit with Welsh heritage, living in Kansas 🏡🐈⬛🐈🇺🇸🇬🇧🏴
Definitely go with shortest cycle to save energy consumption. I use a spray stain remover for anything that needs stronger cleaning. Love your garden, there's so much potential for you. Your videos are brilliant and we make yours our priority viewing. You make us dmile...alot! Thank you! We live in South Wales!
Hi Sean, thank you for your video. Your cottage looks very cosy. My grandfather arrived in Cape Town, South Africa in the 1930s. I had never met him, my father related many stories about Montgomery Wales where he came from, which his father passed on to him. I visited Wales 15 years ago and loved it from the minute I arrived. I am enjoying your videos and every day life from your Welsh cottage. Thank you. GALE.
Love watching your videos first thing in the morning with a cup of coffee! I’m in a Senior apartment with no balcony, so I garden vicariously watching you digging in the soil.
I use the Jeans programme its 59 minutes , washes well, instead of waiting 2/3 hours . It will take time to get used to the livingroom , i expect you will change it again.
'Daily quick' or eco cottons@40° would be a better fit My machine does a daily quick @ 40° for 1hr which is good enough. You literally couldn't have picked the longest settings if you tried. 😉 I do a high spin though, for quick drying on my airer infront of my dehumidifier. I live in a flat so no place to dry outside.
You mentioned about not sleeping. Since my husband passed away, I have been doing meditations on u tube they have really helped me.

Yup, 30c for me and sometimes just the express cycle
How nice that you met a subscriber Sean. It really makes it more personal. Enjoy your Sunday 🙏

New subscriber. Your viewers are so generous. What a lovely reward for your RUclips effort.
Drop the 90 C wash to 60 C for towels. everything else can be done at 30 to 40 C , it will reduce your electricity use.
Definitely lower the temperature on your washing machine and on a 1000 spin once you get your clothes outside on the line they will dry in no time. Your living room looked lovely and cosy in the evening, the cats must be loving it.

That's so fantastic that you met a follower of the channel. It's nice when like minded people connect, even if it's just for a few fleeting moments.
Honeysuckle gives off a lovely scent and would cover the walls.
Just that corner in the garden, you cleaned up looks 100% better!
I wouldn't put washing on at 90 degrees it's too hot and will use a lot of energy. I don't think you should put everything on a quick wash either as it doesn't clean everything properly. Do nearly all of my washing on a 30 degree quick wash, except maybe towels. Saves so much time and money.
you won't regret the purchase of a small chest freezer and pantry area. great idea🙂
just a little dishwashing sponge with bit of soap& warm water will scrub up your white gutter downpipe nicely. A soft broom will reach the undersides of your gutters. Just do a little bit at a time to pace yourself on these jobs. 😊👍

Wow, the stone wall with the moss coming over is quite beautiful..
The cotton cycle is the longest cycle! 😂 any of the left hand side cycles will be better.
love that breeze block wall in the back ground. no interlocking just block on block
I always put my washing on a quick wash as clothes aren't really dirty. It's very quick. If anything is stained I put them in a bucket overnight with hot water and washing powder. I agree if your washing isn't that dirty 30 mins is ok you could always wash it for another 30 mins if needed 😊
Nice surprise for you. I myself have a first aid cabinet on my kitchen wall. I'm keeping my cardboard and paper for future use in my allotment ❤
I shred paper and layer it in the compost bin. Cardboard is great for sheet mulching.
If it was my space and time your patch of green would be more than enough garden for me! A beautiful rose would be great along with some vegetables and annuals. Then add other perinerials as time and money allows
Definitely the quick low temp wash James. No need for longer washes in normal circumstances.

Quick 30 all the way! So looking forward to your garden "make-over".
Just make a trench and stick ya veg off cuts and paper in the bottom save buying compost as you know the soil will love that 😊

😂😂😂😂
We bought a rural home 5 acres in upper midwest U S. there wasn’t a garden previously and we started from scratch 6 years ago. Its amazing how much trash like metal and glass is in our plot! A
Most every time I go out another piece has worked its way to the top.
Hi Sean, The daffodils look great on the table.
Another lovely video, loved watching you in the garden because i dont have one i live in a flat, Quick wash is best for you. Take care lovely Sean x
Morning Sean. I use the time save button on the washing machine a lot. It should be a lot quicker for you. Have a lovely Sunday.x.
Blimey Sean, that 90 degree cotton wash is the longest hottest one, almost boiling and will likely shrink cottons. A 30/40 degree wash will do for everything. Have a look through the handbook and compare energy. There is a cottons eco 40 that will save you money for a big wash, sheets, towels, shirts and undies
Also if you have room in your fridge. Carrots keep for weeks under water in the fridge
It's great to see you in the garden. Though you're going to need a skip and a rock crusher to get it tidied up. 😂
Definitely Sean , everything should be okay on a quick wash. I always use that unless anything is filthy 😊
My washing machine 'regular wash' setting takes 47 minutes. It's the one I do most things except woolens on, and I always do cold washes once I realised that the washing got just as clean without running up a big hot water bill using hot water.
Hello from Denver Colorado hope you are well
I enjoyed the time you spent in the garden.
Lovely to meet some fans!
Sometimes in life, I now say “what would Sean do?”
The quick wash would be fine, and save money too.😊
Godmorgen from Denmark 🌿
Imagine that now 😊
I really like your garden. I think it’s going to be beautiful when you plant it up.
I love a bit of gardening myself sean .
The cement chuck that looks like a pillow would cute if you put a statue if a sleeping cat on it❤
So nice to see you bringing back the garden. The rose sounds so nice. I look forward to seeing your progress.
I have heard of people shoring up a steep area by reinforcing with concrete in bags. Just a thought. Thanks for your videos. Best wishes.
Thank you. GALE.
Your planting bed seems to be at a convenient height. Looking forward to what you grow.
Love watching your videos first thing in the morning with a cup of coffee! I’m in a Senior apartment with no balcony, so I garden vicariously watching you digging in the soil.
Love what you’ve done with the place, it’s looking so cosy. Sweet little garden just waiting for your touch. Best wishes from the West Coast of Canada
I'm making oatmealcookies 😊 and enjoying your video.
I use the Jeans programme its 59 minutes , washes well, instead of waiting 2/3 hours . It will take time to get used to the livingroom , i expect you will change it again.
'Daily quick' or eco cottons@40° would be a better fit
My machine does a daily quick @ 40° for 1hr which is good enough.
You literally couldn't have picked the longest settings if you tried. 😉
I do a high spin though, for quick drying on my airer infront of my dehumidifier. I live in a flat so no place to dry outside.
I do my washing at Cottons 40 degrees, it takes 2 hrs and a bit I think. xxx
Watching from South Texas.
I have the same washing machine and use the cottons eco 40 setting for everything, although it does take a while.
I use the daily quick setting and alter the spin speed and temp as I want it to
