Just i thought, not everyone is into julie as i also disliked her at beginning of the reading but.. the way the story keeps getting relatable to me really give me chills.. as i keep reading, the more i see myself in julie.. why she keeps in denial and holds on Sam.. i've been in that situation rn and i cant deny it really hurt so much... :'( this book is incredibly amazing imo
I'm sorry you're experiencing the same thing :( For me, I feel like when I read a book that is similar to the situation I'm in it gives a certain comfort and holds a special place in my heart. I hope that was this book for you!
I don’t think Julie was selfish at all. There were times when she did selfish things, but she usually came to her senses. She even did a handful of selfless things like giving Oliver Sam’s shirt and when she finally let Sam go because she knew it was best for the both of them. It honestly all makes sense to me that she acted the way she did given the situation she was in.
I see what you mean! Given her situation I don't think it's easy for anyone to not be in denial it was just difficult for me to get through some parts without feeling like she's over stepping her boundaries.
alright, i literally just downloaded this book around two hours ago and as a slow reader, i’m impressed i already have read 30% of the book! i completely agree with you about jules, i’m still grieving and crying with her, but i also feel like sam feels a much bigger love than she could ever feel for him. even though some situations are quite repetitive like when she asks sam about where he is, the book is very well written and it surely makes the reader be a part of the story by mentioning relatable situations, etc… i am completely in love with “You’ve Reached Sam” and i cant wait to finish this book!
Exactly. I was afraid my opinions won't match with others about Julie, but glad it's not the case. Most of the time, she's so self centred, and the part where she gets upset over Sam and just stops contacting him, making him worried irked me off. Like girl, you can be upset but he has his own life too! Anyway, the plot, the cover, the side characters are really well written, i have to say! I cried during the initial chapters, but the ending.. I was expecting it somehow, haha 😅. Thank you for your review ❤
Ahhh thank you for sharing! But no i agree and whenever I bring it up to someone that the main character annoys me, people get so defensive but I'm like...well everyone is greiving and you dont see them skipping out on funerals and throwing everything away. To each there own way of healing but it happened so early in the book it was hard to oversee for me. Yeah the ending was anticlamatic but it was a good closure for her so I didnt mind.
Omg another cute intro 🥺 and ahhhhh the cover art and art under the dust jacket 😲🥰 Yasss we love us some good side characters- sad that it sounds like Julie wasn’t the best main character tho 🥲
Honestly I 100% agree with you. I'm like halfway through the book and I honestly didn't like Julie's character that much. The plot is amazing. The side characters are amazing Sam is SUCH a sweetheart but Julie's character was like so-so. And the cover's AMAZING. There were some scenes which were really emotional for me
I am quite surprised to see how many other people agree with me on Julie. There were so many good comments on the book I was afraid people wouldn't get me. The side characters is definitely what makes the book soooooo good! The cover is EVERYTHING. I feel you, some scenes got me so emotional.
I haven't finished the book yet but I too didn't like Julie at first. Some choices she made annoyed me but i do understand where she's comming from and as the story goes on, i'm starting to appreciate her more. I like that she has her flaws and that she isn't this perfect character who makes all the right choices even though while I was reading i kept thinking: "WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS, YOU'RE GONNA REGRET IT. STOP!" 😅😄🥲
Ok! you made my mind up! I'm so getting this book! I love the cover! I have seen it a few rimes but could never make my mind up before. but you have now! The cover is one of the most beautiful covers I have ever seen in my life.
I just finished the book within 2 days! I agree I’m not a fan of Julie, like she was selfish in a way like you said. But the plot tore me apart. The ending shattered me!!
I finished this book like a week ago. I absolutely loved the book. I too am just obsessed with the cover page. But i might not agree with you that Julie was selfish. I mean, we later saw in the book, that she was eventually Trying to improve. If she was selfish, she wouldn't have given Sam's T-shirt to Oliver. If she was selfish she wouldn't have let Mika talk to Sam on call knowing that it could actually affect her connection with Sam. If she was selfish she wouldn't have gone looking for James and wouldn't have let him talk to Sam knowing that her connection with Sam was already weak. If she was selfish, she wouldn't have given that CD to Marcus. She didn't meet Sam's mother since his death but when she hugged her she just broked down. I really don't think she was selfish. But again, we all have different perspectives.
I completely get what you mean! Thank you for stating your opinion, I'm glad you didn't see her as selfish. I just couldn't get past some of her actions where I thought she was being selfish. Dont get me wrong, she does get the character growth, and I'm not denying that in anyway, but what really set me into the "selfish" mind set has mainly to do with the flashbacks. The way she seemed to treat the relationship when he was alive was more take and very little give and I personally just couldn't get past that lol. We can agree to disagree!
I came here after reading you've reached sam to know if anyone else has addressed Julie's unsympathetic and unapologetic behavior. Glad I'm not the only one While I understand everyone's coping with grief is different, you have to know you are not the only one who's hurt. Like not even attending the funeral for weeks.. Or throwing sam's stuff out not even sparing the jacket.
YESSS EXACTLY I am so glad their are more people than I thought who didn't like her behavior. It really rubbed me the wrong way and throughout the book I just couldn't stop getting annoyed when she would act as if shes the only one who lost a loved one.
Sorry for the late reply! Did you end up getting it? Julie isn't the WORST character I ever met. If Julie is your main issue of not reading it I will say that you are missing out on some amazing side characters who really do carry the story. If it wasn't for them I would have not liked the book at all lol.
I‘m currently reading this book and having problems with finishing it , like ngl i find it very boring. And i also agree that julie is selfish and insensitive. I also am not crying in this book as i have expected. A positive this is that i really love the cover but unfortunately the story is not it …
I definitely didn't cry as much as I expected. It's definitely not a book for everyone. Honestly, if I didn't have the mentality that I HAVE to finish the book once I started I would have probably dropped it too by the annoyance Julie gave me.
Great review 👌🏾 You ain't the problem 💁🏽♀️ Seems I'll like this book but not boohoo much as people are making it out 🤷🏾♀️ Guess people are different and get emotional about different things😌
Honestly, I was kind of disappointed. This book was so hyped and while I agree that the story is beautiful, the style of writing is very amateur. I don’t know if it’s because I’m use to reading a certain type of style, but it just didn’t click with me. Would have liked more character development as there seems to be many instances where the scene would just cut off and something new happens. I would rate it maybe 6.5/10
It's available in most book stores with a young adult book section! Barnes&noble and Amazon has them. I don't know about outside of the United States though
I didn’t like Julie and it was incredibly annoying how she would ask Sam how she’s talking to him and he would just give some vague answer every single time. It didn’t help their conversations were all about how they’re talking right now. It made me not trust him and I didn’t feel their connection at all. The whole phone call situation felt like it’s the only actual plot line so it got boring very quickly.
I understand how you feel! It definitely does get repetitive which was another reason why I wasn't obsessed with Julie like he didn't tell you the first time and he won't tell you now so move on
We can agree to disagree lol she's not a bad character by all means! She's grieving and we all grieve differently. I just saw it more when we got flashbacks of the past. She seemed to be doing everything she wants and because Sam just followed her it comes off as selfish. Just my opinion
