I don’t think a recommendation has ever made me want to read a book as much as your rec for Sorcery of Thorns! Sounds literally perfect so i can’t wait to pick it up
Our reading tastes are so different, but I just adore listening to you talk about books! Your videos are so soothing and eloquent. I’m glad you’ve been having a good reading year so far 💕
I used to have a very different taste as well but Hannah's opinions gave me such a different outlook on some books that I didn't consider before and now I can't unsee some problematic aspects in books. Also I found some really interesting books that I wouldn't otherwise read as they were not really my style...
omg finally someone on youtube put the Spanish love deception on their worst reads, that shit was so atrocious. I literally reconsidered the life choices that led me to the point of reading that book. Aside from misery, it also put me in the biggest reading slump where I was thrown off by reading as a hobby.
When you said Yona of the Dawn jumpstarted your reading for the year that was literally me this year. I started reading Attack on Titan for the Anime, then I started reading more manga and then it just snowballed into reading books. Definitely got me out of my 4+ year reading slump.
Even in the midst of finishing my master's program and working full-time, I absolutely tore through both of the Six of Crows books this month because you recommended them so highly
OMGG THE SIX OF CROWS DUOLOGY IS SERIOUSLY SO GOOD!! I READ BOTH BOOKS REALLY QUICKLY TOO BECAUSE I REALLY WAS IMMEDIATELY SO INVESTED !!!!! ALSO WISHING YOU THE BEST WITH FINISHING YOUR MASTERS PROGRAM !! ☺️❤️
starless sea was definitely the book that made me happiest this year -- the gorgeous prose, the underground library, the mystery, the cats...tysm hannah for getting me to read it!!!
An updated "Hannah List" of books you were talking about in the beginning sounds so good 😍 I just know that if I read everything on that list, my life would never be the same again

your taste is truly just immaculate! i ended sorcery of thorns last year but admittedly didn’t give it a fair chance, and your enjoyment of it in the last vlog led to me picking it up and now i ADORE THIS STORY!! the atmosphere is just so magical - it really does make you feel like you’ve been swept away. thank you for introducing me to a new fav! yona is also one of my favourite series with one of my most favourite casts ever. my dark vanessa is one of the most thought-provoking books i’ve ever read; definitely one of my favorites. i read it a year ago and think about it/revisit it often. i’ve heard the opposite of what you said about sally rooney; that normal people is the better conversations w friends! i’ve never tried a book by her but conversations w friends sounds much more up my alley so if they really are that similar i’ll definitely take your advice.
I, by some weird happenstance, received the notification for this video as I was filling out what may be a potential all-time favorite in the « A Clockwork Reader » reading journal 😊❤️
Omg thank you. From Blood and Ash made my skin crawl it was so painful to read. So many people are gushing over this book and it’s awful. I instantly judge when someone says it’s their favorite.
I mean there is an audience for anything, just bc you disliked it and someone else does like it doesn’t make them a lower person than you…… but like when people say ACOTAR is the best book series ever… same I definitely judge them 🤣😂
all my rage is sooo good omg. it was the type of book that I just felt honoured to have been able to read, and I grew so attached to the characters. definitely recommend!!
I’m so happy that you are reading more and enjoying a lot of books this year. Also pleaaase read “Aristotle and Dante dive into the waters of the world” if you haven’t already. I personally loved this sequel even more than I loved the first book and I think that you will definitely like it too
She said in other video that it was one book she was waiting, so i guess she had readen the book or is in process. Maybe we are going to watch a vlog about it.
I was feeling very down cause today has been really tiring and I saw that you uploaded a video on Twitter and it just made me so so soooo happy. I am really liking it so far😍
I’ve been in a reading slump this year, and All My Rage saved me. I have never read her fantasy series, An Ember in the Ashes, but now I want to! The way Sabaa writes, the way she made me feel so much?! The characters were so well developed, and the whole story was so well paced. Gosh, I ADORE her now. And even though I’m not Pakistani (I’m Indian), Urdu is very similar to Hindi, and the fact that a language besides English was in the book and that I could read was a whole new experience! I miss the book so much now. 🥹🥹
I found your channel this year after recently getting back into reading. After working full time and being a more than full time student, I'm proud of myself for prioritizing reading for pleasure. I've read 5 books this year, including the Six of Crows duology which is how I found you. Here's to the latter half of the year!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR INCLUDING MY DARK VANESSA!!! As someone who read that book when I was thirteen, and recently reread it now that I was older, I love that book! I didn't expect much of it, I honestly expected it to be a quick summer read while out on a island with my friends, but instead, I stumbled out of my cabin, sobbing halfway through the book. Wish I could read it for the first time again :)
i just finished sorcery of thorns and IT WAS SO GOOOOD 😭 it definitely resembled the clockwork series but i actually loved the characters more. I HATE THAT ITS A STANDALONE :(
Finally someone who hated Normal People as much as I did! SORCERY OF THORNS MADE ME FEEL LIKE THE WORLD WAS WORTH LIVING and yona and spyxfam are literally my favorite mangas atm so much happiness from them like furuba before
I’ve been binge watching your videos lately and I’m so happy to watch this one in real time! Absolutely love your content, thank you for being the only person I know who reads the same books as me🥺💕
I'm looking for new book tubers to follow using the mid year freak out tag as it's a good way to see someones interests and tastes. Delighted to have discovered you, and I just want to say I so appreciate your calm, patient energy. It's so refreshing to come across a RUclips that takes their time and doesn't rush through their videos at a million miles an hour! Thank you!
Sorcery of thorns is one of my all time favorites so excited for the novella that is coming out soon that follows Elizabeth and Nathaniel at a dinner party I believe there’s not a lot of info yet 🥰
I’ve had A Sorcery of Thorns sitting on my shelf for awhile now, but after hearing you talk about it I’m definitely going to pick it up sooner rather than later!
I love this method to just put one book as a "goal" on Goodreads to just simply keep track. You approach reading from a different direction and I guess it motivates you more. I'll give this a try next year! Thanks!
One book i read this month that i ABSOLUTELY love is Every Last Word!! I don’t want to give a summary because i feel like i’ll unintentionally spoil it but please look it up. It is so good, my heart was beating so much.
Hi, Hannah! I saw that you wanted to read The Ones We Burn by Rebecca Mix and you were describing it so well. So I went to Goodreads and read the blurb. I was even more excited to read. Prior to that, I saw the low star rating, and usually I don’t read a book based off that, but I scrolled down to see a little bit of reviews, and I immediately had to turn my back on the book. But I just wanted to let you know that the book showcases reverse racism. The author wrote the Black siblings of the book to oppress the poor white people. This is white supremacy, all while people also say that there it is a potentially anti-semitic running situation that ties to a stereotypical blood libel. I say this just so that you can be aware in case you’re not. Totally love your video and have added numerous other books to my TBR. I just read Spy x Family vol. 1 & 2. I took a break in between the third volume and the second volume to read An Ember in the Ashes. After years of hearing you talk about it, I bought it. (I don’t know why I didn’t sooner). I’m only 25% through, but I’m loving it❤️
When you already have a tbr list of over 30 books, but everytime there is a new video on this channel you have to add more 😩 They just all sound so good!!!!
started spy family because of the last video and I'm loving it! I've never read manga before but the premise is so up my alley I just had to. And I'm already halfway through the second one so, THANK YOU
I would've never imagined that u would mention YONA OF THE DAWN in this video, AND BIG YES OMG it has been my favorite manga for whole years, also yess with the picture of dorian gray ✨
this is the first video i’ve seen from you but we seem to have literally the exact same opinions so i’m so glad to have found you!! 🥰🥰 looking forward to recs from you and will definitely be reading sorcery of thorns!!
I feel so bad that you have such an amazing reading journal and I can't afford to buy it because i'm almost alway broke 😭😭😭❤️❤️❤️❤️ but we're so proud of you Hannah !!
*Best*: either Brandi Carlile's memoir Broken Horses (audiobook with songs interspersed) or This is How You Lose the Time War. *Worst*: Find Me, the sequel to Call Me By Your Name. Dull. *Most Anticipated*: Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds (boy takes an elevator down to confront his brother's killer, told entirely in verse), the Nick and Charlie novella, and What We Don't Talk About When We Talk About Fat by Aubrey Gordon (cohost of the Maintenance Phase podcast).
THE WAY I SCREAMED FROM JOY WHEN YOU MENTIONED SPY × FAMILY!!!! I HAVE ADORED THAT MANGA FOR YEARS NOW. I'M SO HAPPY I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO LOVES IT AAAAAHHHH
On your recomendation I read Heartstopper not really expecting much. Boy was I wrong, it's an absolut gem, it made me giddy happy and later on I devoured the series on Netflix, rewatching it right after I finished it and then some favorite parts over again. Thank you!
I’m late AF but I’m so glad I’m not alone in my feelings for “you’ve reached Sam”, I pre-ordered it and I was so beyond excited but it really fell flat for me!
Yesss Heartstopper devinitely deserves all the hype! I remember discovering it on tapas a few years ago when it only had maybe a couple hundred readers and I absolutely loved it, it makes me so happy to see that now almost everybody is reading it and loving it and aaahhh we even got a show! Luv your vids btw Hannah, you always make me smile❤️
Best (that’s a tough one coz I’ve had so many amazing reads) Defy The Night, Worst- The Spanish Love Deception & an anticipated release- Defend the dawn
i have been following you for a number of years now and i can quite confidently say you'll enjoy alone with you in the ether based on all your past videos! please please read it soon cause i'm dying to know what you think. it's truly some of the most vivid, raw, beautiful descriptions of falling in love and mental health by blake.
I read Sorcery of Thorns in the beginning of the year and Im so happy to say that it will be a sequel of a hundred of pages comming next year in january 😭I cant wait so Im going to pre-order it
I love getting recommendations from you!!! I loved the Starless Sea and Shadow and Bone trilogy and I immediately requested Sorcery of Thorns from the library and can't wait to read it
i bought alone with you in ether on a whim as well, just finished it today. i didn't know if i'd like it, it's extremely character driven, really delving into every single thought process each character goes through and it sounds like it would be so boring, but it captivated me from start to finish. i literally had to force myself to put it down at times, 1) because i didn't want it to end and 2) because it made me actually think about what the author was writing. its witty, its self aware, it deals with such heavy subject matters in such a unique way and i was enthralled from start to end, i even cried at the acknowledgements at the end. idk what im going to do with myself now i've finished it, i might just read it again.
I'm so glad I wasn't the only one disappointed by You've Reached Sam! I seriously was hoping it would be this emotional book with so much heart, but like it did for you, it fell so flat for me. Everyone else loved it so I'm surprised I found someone else who didn't 😂
I'm very happy you metioned Yona & Hak from Akatsuki no Yona as well as Yor, Loid/twilight and Anya from SpyxFamily as your new favorite characters cause I love them too❤️❤️
Hannah you should do another saddest books read and read A Thousand Splendid Suns. I exaggerate when I say I sobbed reading something, but I broke down on my floor at the letters scene on my floor for three days. Fucking broke me. You’ll love it 😊
the way my tbr just magically gets longer every time you upload?? seriously my tbr's biggest menace🤨 really tho lol i love your videos and your recommendations teehee💖💖
sorcery of thorns is one of my favs im so glad u picked it up and loved it! if anyone is looking for a delicious summer beach read “every summer after” was so good! like the summer i turned pretty but adult. i just picked up to kill a kingdom today and im excited to read that next 🌿✨☀️
i’ve had sorcery of thorns on my shelf for a while and your review convinced me to finally pick it up especially after you said it reminds you of a studio ghibli film
I just finished an enchantment of ravens and i. Am. Obsessed. I have never annotated more in my life. It made me seen as an art student and was te perfect fantasy duting finals. I wil re read this in a few weeks
For those who want more manga recs: - Requiem of the Rose King > A retelling of Shakespeare's Henry VIII and Richard III as well as the War of the Roses. This manga has so many complex characters and strong female characters. Our main protag is intersex and it was interesting seeing the author address the issues intersex people deal with. This is such a great manga and I binged everything within 2 days. There are characters you can't help but root for and the last few volumes made me cry a lot. The anime didn't really do it justice though... - Fullmetal Alchemist > Two brothers and their journey to get their bodies back after committing the ultimate taboo as alchemists. Great cast of characters. The anime is also one of my alltime favorites. - Oyasumi Punpun > This was a very unforgettable read but honestly it isn't something I can recommend for everyone. Not sure how I should provide a synopsis for this manga but just know that you should be in a good and healthy headspace to read this. - Hooky > This one isn't a manga but rather a Webtoon and it does have physical publications. It's a fantasy story about two twin witches who miss their first day of school, which ultimately causes them to become entangled in a prophesised war between witches and humans. The artstyle, character designs and storyline all fit together perfectly. Tons of great character development and it's one of the best webtoons on the platform. - Toilet Bound Hanako-kun > A story about Japanese urban legends. Our main girl makes a deal with a ghost haunting one of the toilet stalls in her school and their story starts from there. Tons of fun and comedic moments but as the story progresses it starts to get more serious and dark. A lof of touching and emotional moments as well. One of my favorite artstyles of all time and the characters are so fun. It's currently still ongoing. - Whale Star: The Gyeongsang Mermaid > Not a manga as well and it's also a Webtoon and I just had to mention this because it's such a beautiful and tragic story. Set in Joseon (the last dynasty of Korea) under the Japanese occupation, a servant girl because unwillingly involved with the rebels who fight for Joseon's freedom. It's best to go in blind so that you'll get a surprise as to why it's called The Gyeongsang Mermaid. This one was such a tragic story and it completely broke my heart.
omg!! I read Sorcery Of Thorns sometime late last year. And ITS SO UNDERRATED?!! I LOVE Sorcery Of Thorns and I didn't think you would love it as much as I do!! Honestly would really recommend it if you love fantasy, enemies to lovers and romance and stories about books and libraries! Beautiful Book! i luv nathaniel n elisabeth
I need more of your rants. You're so adorably angry it's funny😂😂 Side note, I'm sure you already know that Chain of Gold just got a SE from Barnes and Noble so....I'd be surprised if you havent pre-ordered yet.
I highly HIGHLY RECOMMEND you to read JADE FIRE GOLD by JUNE CL TAN It’s her debut novel and the aspects of storytelling are absolutely engaging and strong in this one. She’s an expert with her choice of words that I’m planning to read more books from her in the future. Plus, a true slow burn romance that I think you’ll definitely enjoy a whole lot! 100 percent the feels

I’ve had A Sorcery of Thorns sitting on my shelf for awhile now, but after hearing you talk about it I’m definitely going to pick it up sooner rather than later!
Sorcery of thorns was what got me back to reading again during the pandemic. I LOVED IT!
I love this method to just put one book as a "goal" on Goodreads to just simply keep track. You approach reading from a different direction and I guess it motivates you more. I'll give this a try next year! Thanks!
I'm seeing *My Dark Vanessa* everywhere I think it's a sign to read it asap👀
One book i read this month that i ABSOLUTELY love is Every Last Word!! I don’t want to give a summary because i feel like i’ll unintentionally spoil it but please look it up. It is so good, my heart was beating so much.
Before the Coffee Gets Cold has such a hold on my heart and I am so okay with that
Girl you’re literally so stunning.
BEST DAY OF THE WEEK = Hannah uploaded a video !!! * Added all the favs to my TBR * 🥰🥰❤️❤️❤️ WE LOVE YOU HANNAH !!
i am genuinely so happy to see you in a serene and calm mood, you deserve all the happiness
sorcery of thorns is coming out with a sequel and i couldn’t be more excited
I’m only 25% through, but I’m loving it❤️
In Brazil, "Sorcery of Thorns" (Feitiço dos Espinhos) it´s so expensive, but this channel made me buy it.
No regrets, just love it!
same for me, I was surprised by how much I loved My Dark Vanessa and absolutely hated A Little Life
When you already have a tbr list of over 30 books, but everytime there is a new video on this channel you have to add more 😩
They just all sound so good!!!!
started spy family because of the last video and I'm loving it! I've never read manga before but the premise is so up my alley I just had to. And I'm already halfway through the second one so, THANK YOU
ahhh yay!! so glad you’re liking it! ☺️🫶🏼
hannah posting aka say made , the 838474 uni assignments can wait 😤
i love that you include mangas on your lists!! Mangas are always seen as lesser than novels so it's nice seeing some appreciation in booktube
Sorcery of Thorns does deserve more love. I have Conversations with Friends on my tbr, looking forward to getting to it soon
I have lost all sense of time too. The cover for Sorcery of Thorns doesn't evoke Studio Ghibli atmosphere for me, but now I am intrigued.
You talking about books you hate with the most calming voice ever is my asmr
On your recomendation I read Heartstopper not really expecting much. Boy was I wrong, it's an absolut gem, it made me giddy happy and later on I devoured the series on Netflix, rewatching it right after I finished it and then some favorite parts over again. Thank you!
I'm actually quite surprised chain of thorns didn't make it onto your anticipated books for the rest of the year list :O
it comes out in 2023!
I’m late AF but I’m so glad I’m not alone in my feelings for “you’ve reached Sam”, I pre-ordered it and I was so beyond excited but it really fell flat for me!
I have so many books coming in the mail and they’re all books you’ve recommended bc every book I’ve read that you recommend I love so much 😂
Yesss Heartstopper devinitely deserves all the hype!
I read Sorcery of Thorns in the beginning of the year and Im so happy to say that it will be a sequel of a hundred of pages comming next year in january 😭I cant wait so Im going to pre-order it
WAIT WHAT YES AKJSJAJAAJ
Everyone else loved it so I'm surprised I found someone else who didn't 😂
if you guys like sorcery of thorns, i highly recommend the author’s other books, like an enchantment of ravens ! super cute romance and magical read
I hadn't heard of The Ones we Burn yet but girl- based on your description I have a new book to buy-
It's been my plan to read The picture of Dorian Gray and My Dark Vanessa for so long!!
Heartstopper was definitely a major part of my list as well this year!
Sorcery if Thorns and Spy Family are now my new favorite things. Thank you for introducing them to me!!!
You’ll love it 😊
Sorcery of thrones was so much better than I expected because for a fantasy, it wasn’t basic. It was also the perfect length for a stand-alone.
I've read a total of 2,5 books this so far this year which isn't a lot but it's better than last year and that does make me happy.
the way my tbr just magically gets longer every time you upload?? seriously my tbr's biggest menace🤨 really tho lol i love your videos and your recommendations teehee💖💖
Babel is my favorite book of the year so far. I think you're going to love it!
sorcery of thorns is one of my favs im so glad u picked it up and loved it! if anyone is looking for a delicious summer beach read “every summer after” was so good! like the summer i turned pretty but adult. i just picked up to kill a kingdom today and im excited to read that next 🌿✨☀️
i’ve had sorcery of thorns on my shelf for a while and your review convinced me to finally pick it up especially after you said it reminds you of a studio ghibli film
New Hannah video makes every day a good day
I just finished an enchantment of ravens and i. Am. Obsessed.
I have never annotated more in my life.
It made me seen as an art student and was te perfect fantasy duting finals. I wil re read this in a few weeks
For those who want more manga recs:
- Requiem of the Rose King > A retelling of Shakespeare's Henry VIII and Richard III as well as the War of the Roses.
Fmab is better as a series than as a manga
Also, Moriarty the patriot is also a very underrated manga/anime series
Thank you for all the reccs. I definitely find myself agreeing with you on almost every book review.
the fact that you said sorcery of thorns is like studio ghibli is making me want to buy it rn
No way your last mid year tag was a year ago I swear I remember it like it was yesterday! (and not because I’ve rewatched it a lot lol)
Beautiful Book! i luv nathaniel n elisabeth
yes the ones we burn!! i just read an arc of it and it was sooo amazing! loved this video
I need more of your rants. You're so adorably angry it's funny😂😂
Side note, I'm sure you already know that Chain of Gold just got a SE from Barnes and Noble so....I'd be surprised if you havent pre-ordered yet.
hannah, the heartstopper yearbook comes out in october this year too!!
I highly HIGHLY RECOMMEND you to read
JADE FIRE GOLD by JUNE CL TAN
It’s her debut novel and the aspects of storytelling are absolutely engaging and strong in this one. She’s an expert with her choice of words that I’m planning to read more books from her in the future.
Plus, a true slow burn romance that I think you’ll definitely enjoy a whole lot! 100 percent the feels
