The Heart of the Matter
Jesus teaches His disciples that the heart is more important than external matters such as ritual purity (Matt. 15:10-20).
· To change the outcome of your life, you must first change the seeds you are sowing into your heart (Matt. 12:33-35).
Cultivating The Correct Heart Posture
(Luke 9:51-56) - As disciples of Christ, we must have a correct spirit.
Here are three heart postures of a disciple.
1. Humility (Matt. 5:5).
§ Meekness, humility, and brokenness go hand and hand.
§ Humility is a magnet for the favor of God (Prov. 22:4).
§ Humility is a commandment, not a suggestion (James 4:10).
2. Obedience (Luke 6:46).
§ Obedience is more than lip service (Gen. 6:13-18).
§ Our love for God is seen in obeying His word (1 John 2:3-5).
§ Submission to the Lordship of Jesus is foundational to the heart posture of obedience.
3. Service (Matt. 20:26-28).
§ Servanthood is the way to the top in the kingdom of God.
§ The heart posture of service is a commitment to follow the example of Christ (Phil. 2:5-8).
Conclusion & Call to Action:
Our daily actions reveal our heart posture. Examine your daily actions and ask yourself, am I consistently walking in humility, obedience, and service?

2. What is the last thing that God asked you to do? Have you done it? If not, why?
3. Are you actively serving others?
