I wish I had a) your confidence, and b) your success rate... Of 21 eductions I hooked up to logs nearly 4 years ago now I've so far had 8 takes. Most are half full of stores, although some insist on building a tunnel through the eduction box, no mattter how often I break it up. (All TH, all coated with propolis inside). 5 broodlifts with queen cells have hatched plenty of callows, but never crowned a queen. If I had been callous and cut down those trees to put them in OATH boxes at my current splitting rates I'd have over 150 hives right now instead of 21 logs / trees and a dozen boxes 🤦‍♂️

Hahahahaha. That's the way it goes David. Eduction is 100% the least reliable method of propagation. And that's why no business that only sells bees can survive doing it that way. We do ok with them, but our splitting success rates are nearly 100%. Eduction maybe 60% with motherhive mortality featuring prominently. I still find it absolutely fascinating to watch when they get it done as they do in the wild - which is brood within 14 days every single time.

Good job. I guess I should try more edumaductions.

Yes and no Steve. Atm the bees are a bit slow and sluggish as you know. I'm definitely not sold on the process but I'll keep doing it in hope of cracking the code 😆😆

Cheers Ashley. If they know what's good for them they'll have the job done by the time I get back 😄

When you say you manufacture your own propolis what do you mean? Are you mixing apis wax and resin or something or do you just mean processing it from rescues etc?

@dylanwilliams3807 we run the contents of native hives (rescues) through the solar melter to get refined native wax then we add tree resins to that to make propolis.
