Bloody awesome mate - my hive was split 18 months ago and lately I’ve had 2 mating swarms 3 weeks apart - I’m deciding whether to split or eduction - love your videos and advice here and on fb👍
Cheers mate. If your boxes are the same you can always start off with eduction and if they don't get it done in the first month you can split. At least the empty box won't be completely empty.
It's not Queenless. But, what happens if the motherhive needs to requeen during the process ? Queens don't live forever and no one takes that into consideration.
Thanks mate. The entrance flanges are like a landing pad for the bees but their main function is to have a large meshed cap fitted for transport or closing the hive. They are floor flanges, available at any plumbing shop or hardware. We also sell them on our website in a variety of colours along with the caps.
Great vid!! I have a carbonaria log hive that was cut down from a big old dead tree, I placed the log section on top of the stump, they seem happy and active.when’s a good time of the year to start an eduction from log hive to oath hive? Thanks in advance
I'd be waiting until spring. You can try it anytime really but it's always better during the warmer months of the year so the empty box is not too cold.
Mine started out quick with structure\food etc however slowed and 5 months later still no brood. They are using it as dumping ground for those little seeds. Should i just detach clean and start again next spring?
If you have another strong motherhive you can try swapping the daughter on to it once you've removed as many bees as you can. I've had good success doing that. If you don't have a another strong motherhive I would disconnect and start again.

Well I don’t know what to say, that’s just bloody incredible. You probably need to have holidays more often! Cheers mate.
Hahahaha. They do their best work when I'm not involved 😄😄
If the mother hive had a queen at the start of the eduction, why would it now be 'queenless'?

Great video. What are the green and blue entry covers. Where did you get them. Thanks.

How good is that. Mine, still nothing
Win some loose some. It's the most unreliable propagation method but when it works as it should it's pretty special.
Good stuff 🤓
Cheers Steve 👌
