Found the console at a thrift store for $15 with both controllers and hookups. I followed the steps in your video and it works like a charm, thank you very much.
I remember in this model with the oval buttons, the swap trick was much easier and simple. The second model with the round buttons had a more complex swap trick
Thanks for this I was able to get it working by changing my cdburner, changing from dollar store CD-r to verbatim, and increasing laser power. The timing is crucial.
Your fingers were 1cm away from permanent live mains voltage by that fuse to the right! Be very careful when going near the console power board, even after its unplugged, as the capacitors hold the mains voltage charge for a while.
crollsy this works for every saturn from any region and any model. the only thing to remember is that if you want to play a game that has a different region than your saturn, you just need to patch the game image first
Thanks for the video, but I'm having a problem with this. I'm using a Model 1 Saturn too, but the console simply resets itself if I touch the disc at all, making it impossible to perform the swap trick. I haven't screwed the lid back on, but I understand it's possible to perform this with the lid off, so I can't see why that would make a difference. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks.
+Friedrich Nietzsche When you say it resets itself, what do you mean? does it go back to the dashboard or does the saturn actually reset like you pressed the reset button? sounds like a loose connection if it resets. check all ribbon cables and make sure the grounding strap is secure on the disc drive and shielding
Slightly easier with a Japanese Saturn, as the original video shows exactly when during its startup to swap it. The Japanese startup's longer, so where the US version just sits on the logo for a few seconds, the original video shows to swap it just when the logo's appearing.
Hey a question. How does this work with games they have multi discs? Do you need to do some sort of swap trick when your half way through the game and need to insert the next disc?
Multi disc games usually save your position (finish the content of each cd) before telling you to change disc,Panzer Dragoon Saga for example. When saved, you just reset your machine and do the trick for the next cd and run. Its not like the older days with floppy disks in home computers like Amiga, where multi disk games have splitted data and asked to insert disk 3 or disk 5 randomly to load stuff to continue
*thewheelman282* Apparently Double Swap Is performed like this: CDR Real Disk - Wait for three blinks CDR Real Disk - Wait for three blinks CDR It's so weird that some disks need to do this to work.
You can softmod your Saturn now by flashing an Action Replay with a program called Pseudo Saturn, so you don't have to do this anymore. It's the ONE time swap trick..It's really really cool and if you're reading this then you should check it out. Just spreading the word. Still a really well made and useful video though, Thanks
+Nardz yeah PsuedoSaturn is very cool and super convenient. the problem is finding those action replay carts at a reasonable price. but if you can get one at a good price, its a good option. or install modchip which is extremely easy. either way
Yea I guess, They're like 30 bucks brand new on ebay, you can also get them off Play-Asia.com and Amazon for about the same price, I do think it is worth it though. It would suck to slip up on a swap one time and chip the inside of an expensive import game or something. Also yea, the modchip in the end is easiest and best method because it frees up your cart slot, but I think the mod chip is a considerate amount more and a lot harder to track down than the Action Replay considering they're usually made by just some dude in his garage.
+Nardz nah man. modchips are about 30 bucks just like action replay carts and the newest modchips are manufactured (commercial quality). the chip design is sent to a company that manufactures printed circuit boards so you get a good quality product. i installed one in my saturn and its a great addition
Then why did you say the problem is finding an action replay for a reasonable price, as if you were stuck doing the swap trick? 30 bucks seems pretty reasonable to me considering the average Saturn game costs more than that..Also 30 bucks for a Saturn chip is news to me, If you could direct me to the place where I could acquire one, it would be appreciated. Last I heard they were made by this Rob guy in his garage who wanted like 100 bucks for one and you had to be on a waiting list, I wasn't down.
imo, 30 dollars for an action replay isnt really reasonable (to me) only because before PseudoSaturn was developed they were half that price. shortly after PseudoSaturn released the price doubled. thats just my opinion. anyway, if you want a modchip, zer0-2k11 at assemblergames sells them for $29 and ships international. assemblergames.com/l/threads/zer0-2k11s-mod-chip-and-installation-shop.43131/ He has an email link for his shop on that page where you can reach him
I just did this trick exactly like the video and the access light won't stop blinking, the disc is not spinning, and the screen shows nothing but black. Sometimes it just hangs at the black sega screen for a while and just goes back to the system menu. What am I doing wrong?
+THE FLIP Channel doing the swap trick with reset puts less wear and tear on the spindle when you swap because the spindle will slow down during the process and you dont have to time your swap EXACTLY. you have a couple of seconds to get the swap done instead of having to use ninja reflexes and hope it works like with other methods
+thewheelman282 ah ah ninja reflexes...ok i see, today i made that with the tape trick and made my first time swap trick with wipeout 2097, only on third try i succeded, just hope this will not damage the spinning motor with time....many thanks
swapping will damage the spindle motor over time. thats a fact. its just that this method causes less wear and tear than other methods. a chip is the best solution but swapping works in a pinch
yeah mine still works but ive since installed a modchip so i dont have to swap. ive heard of people having trouble with their saturn after excessive disc swapping
The Region Patcher had some spyware when I tried to download it, so I am skipping that for now. I have two Saturns anyways, and the cartridge slot is not working on one of them so I will use that one for US backups. I am flashing an Action Replay to use on my Japanese Saturn though.
+Cap661 the download doesnt have spyware. its likely a false positive on your computer. the program was uploaded by a former senior member on the site so the download can be trusted. i have verified it does not contain anything bad
No one You know, the best way i know to describe it is grab the disc with all your fingers and pull at the same time in one quick motion. You'll always put some resistance on the motor though
Found the console at a thrift store for $15 with both controllers and hookups.

Nice!

The second model with the round buttons had a more complex swap trick
Confirmed, 100% worked for me. Thank you for the tutorial!
+GloomyOtter Not a problem man. Glad it worked for you. Consider getting a modchip in the future though
ur a boss. after adjusting potenteometers to get disk to read. ur method after reading watching others u got me swappin with success. thx bro
Brad Schwenzer, glad to help!

Hat super geklappt, danke
Thanks for the very useful video. Does this work with Saturns from all regions? And is it model 1 or 2?
crollsy this works for every saturn from any region and any model. the only thing to remember is that if you want to play a game that has a different region than your saturn, you just need to patch the game image first
thewheelman282 thankyou, i need it to install atlus firmware so hopefully will only be a one time thing.
thx dude u helped me out other videos seem to not work for me ur method was easily clear thanks man..
Will the burned game save?
Mr. 6's&7's yep
I have hst 3200. You can't find that switch there. Any idea how I trick the hst 3200?
This is a Model 1 Saturn. This method only works for Model 1. Model 2 (circular buttons) is a different method.
Thanks for the video, but I'm having a problem with this. I'm using a Model 1 Saturn too, but the console simply resets itself if I touch the disc at all, making it impossible to perform the swap trick. I would like to give you a saturn action replay plus, so you can make an pseudosaturn atlas soft mod video. Are you interested? I have 2 if them.
yeah i would be interested. is there anything in particular you want to see? like info missing from other videos?
ill pay you to soft mod mines
Legend worked first time thanks mate

Hey a question. How does this work with games they have multi discs? Do you need to do some sort of swap trick when your half way through the game and need to insert the next disc?
+Darren Connelly im honestly not sure. ive never played any multi-disc games on saturn before so i cant say. sorry man

Buy an action replay plus and soft mod . Simple.
worked like a charm Thank You
Hi, it works the same for the japanese saturn? because the main screen is different
I've read somewhere some games check the securiti code twice specially acclaim games. Does this method works with games like alien trilogy?
hmm. im actually not sure. i may have to test this because now im curious

Will this work with a second model system? You know, the one with the big round buttons.
Yes it will
you can play an import game without having to add an ntsc patch like he says in video. u can use a special cart to play imports.
+maniaque37 true. the action replay carts are getting pricey though. patching is free but less convenient
I just did this trick exactly like the video and the access light won't stop blinking, the disc is not spinning, and the screen shows nothing but black. Sometimes it just hangs at the black sega screen for a while and just goes back to the system menu. What am I doing wrong?
I'm using the USA model 1 system
does your saturn play original games just fine?
Check your back up. May not have burned properly.
Sweet!
whats the diference doing the first method with reset and second method without reset?
+THE FLIP Channel doing the swap trick with reset puts less wear and tear on the spindle when you swap because the spindle will slow down during the process and you dont have to time your swap EXACTLY. you have a couple of seconds to get the swap done instead of having to use ninja reflexes and hope it works like with other methods

yeah mine still works but ive since installed a modchip so i dont have to swap. ive heard of people having trouble with their saturn after excessive disc swapping
you dont need to reset, just pop in an offical saturn game and swap it for your burnt game.
The Region Patcher had some spyware when I tried to download it, so I am skipping that for now. I have two Saturns anyways, and the cartridge slot is not working on one of them so I will use that one for US backups. I am flashing an Action Replay to use on my Japanese Saturn though.

Resetting is an unnecessary step FYI.
This method also works on the european model 2, I just did it on mine.
I got the second jvc model and its literally impossible…
Ist nice to see you have an ouya i lovit
How do you pull it out when it's still spinning?
with your hand
thewheelman282 yeah, obviously, but that doesn't really answer my question. How do you pull it out without resisting the motor?
No one You know, the best way i know to describe it is grab the disc with all your fingers and pull at the same time in one quick motion. You'll always put some resistance on the motor though
thewheelman282 Oh, ok. It's unavoidable.
Cool as hell lol.
bro you sound like kenny powers :D
that's so bad for the disc spinner.
Didnt understand anything. Easier way my a**...
