Wow this is just so sublime. I like the different way Herr is sung each time and the alternation between Coro and Soli really adds something. The slow tempo adds depth to the music and brings out the intricacies of the music so I really like it
Top notch, I've been looking for animated Bach for some time. Brilliant. ....and I've found all your other videos, so I'm gonna be entertained for a while :-)
Thank you again Smalin for share your wonderful work with all of us in youtube. I just turn off all lights and see your videos with relatively good headphones and then Bach, the colours, the shapes... just magic. Muchas gracias otra vez Smalin por compartir todo tu increíble trabajo con todos nosotros en Internet. Solo apago las luces, veo tus videos con unos auriculares relativamente buenos, y luego Bach, los colores, las formas, la música... simplemente magia. Gracias.
A really beautiful integration of the visual and the audio performance. I particularly like that the two upper voices in the video animation are a little ahead of the rest of the graphics, while still being completely in sync with each other. It makes it much easier for me, and I think the listener/viewer in general to connect the whole graphics to the music. Maybe you could extend this idea in your future graphics? Again. Well done!
By looking more closely, I now see that all of the voices in the graphics are not shifted at all. They are all in sync with each other. It only appears that they are not. The graphics of the two clarinets in the upper voice go ahead of the others, because they are wider. The onset of all of the voices coincide with the left sides of all of the graphical elements. So if the graphical elements have different widths, they appear to be shifted. Still, although this is easier to implement in programming code than what I thought it was, it is a nice effect. A demonstration of how you can create fairly complicated effects with relatively simple means.
This video was uploaded one day after I received the scores and parts for this wonderful work, which I sung a couple of times and now I’ll be conducting for the first time. As I was listening to this performance I was at the same dime disagreeing with a couple of musical choices and still finding them very interesting: it IS a good performance. As I went to find out who the performers were I started laughing out loud: the conductor, Jos van Veldhoven, was one one of my best teachers when I studied in the Netherlands, and I have and love a couple of his Bach recordings, including the Christmas Oratory and the B Minor Mass. I also like what you did visually with the music, but I think you lost a good opportunity to shape differently the several different themes and sentences and words in the choir, like you so often do with instrumental music. It also would have been really nice to read the lyrics above, also like in other videos you made. Still, it’s a fine job you did here!

Agnostic/atheist here. Grew up Catholic, so I got the "guts and gore" aspect of Christ's crucifixion drummed into me over and over again during Holy Week in the Catholic calendar. When hearing this I think of the crucifixion, especially the crown of thorns. All the chords are "spiky," like a crown of thorns.

One of the most striking openings in all Bach’s repertoire.
Yes. It's so apochaliptic.
The opening always manages to drive shivers up my spine!
Yes, it's powerful stuff.
The very pinnacle of both flawless counterpoint and pedal point.
Unsurpassed.
The visual experience enhances the perception of the rather divine qualities of this masterpiece...
Thank you Stephen Malinowski. This is a wonderful graphical representation with colors. It helps to understand the structure of Bach music.

Thank you, that's very beautiful, and the version/rendition (quite slow) is also very fine
What makes the tenor a fascinating voice that it can go lower than the bass, & higher than the alto depending on the work
Oh dear heavens! Bach!
watching and listening to that was an important experience for me
Supremely sublime.
This is a great interpretation of this piece. Was surprised to see it wasn't Herreweghe

Two oboi present very interesting effect.
If choir were to be a game, the color codes for the choir would be blue for bass, red for tenor, green for alto, & yellow for soprano
red is for the bass ,my pitch .
I really like how the alto & tenor voice lines go in a variety, can anyone tell the difference between voices without the sheet music?
Højdramatisk næsten sørgemusik på et højt musikalsk plan. Meget smuk musik.....
Juste génial 👌🏼
Having re-listened to other recordings of this piece, I can't help but to prefer the slower tempo of this performance.
Je suis sûr que cette vidéo a été filmée au début du XVIII ème siècle dans le cerveau de J-S Bach pendant qu'il composait...

Fabricio Guido yes at the end
It's also in "The Killing of a Sacred Deer", but I'm not sure if the choral portion is in it.
