I saw him perform this live. It was fantastic. He brought a girl up on stage to drink/smoke with him while he was singing, he'd stop and tell the story of this song and a story about a girl he met at a pub. He's amazing.

Absolutely genius.. Im going through a separation right now with the love of my life. And this song is what makes my days go around.. I can relate to every single word in the lyrics and the music is exactly how my feelings would sound if they could talk.
I know this pain. I’m living it now and am so grateful for this song to help me cope

I don't know the story behind the song, but for me it looks like it's about somone who has been left, than pretended he is okay, now turned to drinking and while drunk it shows that since the end of the relationship he has been a total wreck, and still can't stop thinking of his "darling". Than again i don't know more than what i imagine for this song, so don't take my words, this is just my point of view, which makes it the saddest and most brilliant song ever written.

I actually got to see him at Radio City Music Hall. And towards the end he started climbing all of the stairs on the side of the stage. It was hysterical. But yeah, funny take on a really really sad song. He's amazing.

I'm finding this funny cuz as an alcoholic I know how this person's eyes and voice are changed to a point where he's somewhat close to passing out. Especially when there's no official version or profit in acting...

He's a better musician than he is an actor, but it's still really cool that he would even do this. Most musical artists couldn't even step to this level of storytelling. I love this song, it's one of my favorite by Damien Rice. It's kind of annoying though when people laugh and snicker at it. It's a very deep and troubled song. I don't feel like it's something that should be taken lightly.
That's my opinion though.
Love the song. Love the artist. Love what he's trying to do. Major props!
