Saw these at sweetwater yesterday. You’r review is the first I watched and you have a new subscriber. Phenomenal job communicating what people need to know in order to make informed decisions.
Yes... EXCELLENT review! Very well done comparing a huge range of sounds, from different guitars to smoldering fires and watch ticking! Thanks! This cemented my decision to go for a pair of these over two individual SM81s (which would probably sounds almost imperceptibly better...but cost twice as much! Thanks again!
Oh fantastic! Thanks for watching, and I'm glad this was valuable for you. I never know how these videos go over, so I'm happy to know you found use in the additional recording examples. Enjoy them, I think you'll be really happy
Definitely the best microphone review I have seen! Love the way you show first time watchers that you have experience in the field, and also bring out all the necessary technical details🙌🏼
I tried them yesterday for narration. They are very pleasant sounding for my voice, plus they come with the Hemisphere plugin. Only problem, they can be purchased only as a pair. Great review. Thanks!
Wait.. they come with the Hemisphere plugin? How did I totally miss this. Thanks for the tip! Finding out you have more toys than you thought is always a nice way to start the day.
Please please post a video going over the hemisphere modeling with lots of sound tests! Most people are buying these for the hemisphere modeling and I can't seem to find any videos that show the modeling
I would love to know how these compare to the WA-84 from Warm Audio, and the AKG C1000s - looking for drum overheads in a smallish mostly wood room, music a bit like The Jam, Sex Pistols, Green Day
I imagine they'd be quite nice. I've never had the pleasure of recording bass flute, but I have recorded bass clarinet. I believe for that, we used a small diaphragm condenser, much like these. We placed it quite far from the instrument to capture the sound of the whole instrument, and it sounded really nice! I'd love to try recording bass flute!
@@randyrektor thanks for ur reply. I have to record with max proximity, i travel so not in a treated environment. I am currently using SM58. But being a session musician on the go, where i record and send files, i should now get a better mic. Hunt is on. Thanks, subs
Thanks so much for the sub. If you’re really in a pinch for travelling options, you should check out the Sennheiser Profile. Tom Buck has a video on it that’s really comprehensive. It’s a USB mic, which may be convenient for you, and the quality is actually stunning. Making me question the old “don’t use a usb mic” logic!
Are these better/more worth it than the Shure SM57? I ask this because the SM57 are so popularly used that it makes me wonder if there’s something special about them that I’m unaware of
They are definitely both great for their own things. By all means, I think everyone can do great things with either. SM57s are dynamic mics which are generally better on extremely loud sources. These microphones are small diaphragm condensers which by design have a more accurate response. Accurate doesn’t mean better always, sometimes we like the distortion (or colour) caused by different mics. Best advice I’ve got is try as many mics as you can, use your ears, and trust your own sensibility to find the best tool 🙌🏻
When I plug mine in I’m getting a low hiss and lots of electronic static. The room is treated and my other condenser mics (Townsend L22) Dont pick up the weird sounds even when turned to max.
Very strange! That wasn't my experience at all. Maybe a dumb question, but did you try any other cables? I know with my Peluso CEMC6 (Schoeps replicas), sometimes certain cables just don't cooperate well.
@@randyrektor not a dumb question at all. I did try with 3 brand new Mogani cables and different inputs into my x8. I recorded a track today to see if it was maybe something that you wouldn’t hear after recording but it was loud and clear in the acoustic guitar recording. I’m baffled. Also turned off all phones and wifi in the room.
Weird!! That’s so odd. I’m not sure if you saw the part where I covered the noise on them, but it was really minimal in my testing. Really comparable with other small diaphragms I’ve used before. I wonder if it’s worth messaging UA and seeing what they can do. It sounds defective maybe?
@@randyrektor thanks for the replies. When I wake tomorrow I’ll be doing some further testing so I have examples to send them. Hopefully it’s something I’m doing wrong
@@randyrektor I thought I'd update you on what I've found so far. Turns out other condenser microphones doesn't work in my studio and have the same issue as the SP-1s (huge white noise and static interference with little to no audio pickup). Yes some other condenser Mics like the Shure Beta 87A works amazing in the studio and sound delicious. The Sp-1s are still being tested but most of the tests have returned positive result for them being fine and working properly. I'm gald but now perplexed at what's going wrong in my studio. I've written to UA as well and it seems Ill need an expert in electrical stuff to jump in on my journey.
On sale right now for $349!! Go get 'em!! And thanks for the excellent vid Randy!!
Woo thanks for stopping by!
This mic is gorgeous honestly. Love the in-depth look we get here
Thanks Ev! They are such a retro looking off-white. W colour choice
Yo los compre...me llegan muy pronto...espero no desepcionarme pues vendí mis ML-2 de slate digital.

Wow. This is actually the best mic review I ever saw. Good job man, appreciate this!
This made my day! Thanks for the kind words 🙏🏻🙏🏻
What in the apple commercial was that intro?! 👀🔥 you make nerdy information so tasty sounding.
I haven’t tapes my glasses yet, so I’ve got that going for me

Any time!
Good video. Thanks!
Great review mate!
Thanks a ton!

Solid idea!

Ahh I would love to try those out. I used the AKG C1000s a long time ago, but I haven't touched them in years.
bought 😂 also because of your great demo … thanks for your video and your work , cheers from munich 🍀
Amazing!! I hope you enjoy them. Thanks so much for the kind words
Great video. My heart is set on a matched pair of Soyuz but my wallet says these. Upright piano sounds gorgeous with these with a sd-1 on rear
Oooo I've never tried the Soyuz, but they look gorgeous!
Is the Hemisphere mic modeling license also included?
Thank you, but what about the Hemisphere mic collection included in the purchase ?
Never tried it! I'll have to give it a download and toy around with it. Maybe I'll do a live stream and walk through the features.

Great on acoustic thinking of grabbing these
As a fan of all white pro audio gear I need to have them!
Oh man, I’m with you! They look so clean
this or la 120 v2 ?
would you think of comparing the sp1 with the neumann km184? I'm a bit interested in it
That’s a great call. I’ll see if I can get my hands on a km184!
I found one for rent locally! You can expect a vid soon :)
That’s great!! Can’t wait to see it
@@randyrektor any thoughts when comparing the 2? really curious
how they will sound on a base flute? well, i am on a lookout for microphone for flute
