Love it! I'm a PE teacher in Florida and I showed it to my students at several schools. I had one 3rd grade class in particular that had so many of the negative characteristics. We watched it all the way through once and then the second time I stopped it after each character and had a group discussion about it. It helped A LOT! Thanks!
This is great! I’m a helper in a elementary PE class and since we had a lot of issues with sportsmanship in the school we showed this video to all the classes.
I’m an elementary school teacher in Canada. I love this video and I show it to my class every year. I really like the examples of good and bad sports. Very easy to understand and relatable for the kids.
I've been working to incorporate these values with the kids at bgc during the 7years i've been working with the club. Sad it took me this long to find it but gotta say it made me proud to be apart of such an amazing organization. Way to go guys! Deffenetly going to use it at our clubs in West Central MO and in the future when I become a P.E. coach. On behalf of kids, parents, education professionals and everyone who doesn't even realize the value of such organizations bring; thank you for you're creativity and commitment to building possitive productive citizens out of our youth!
Great video! I'm an Occupational Therapist, and I've referenced this several times. I would love a video in social story format, about "keeping hands to yourself" in play.. geared to the 3-7th grader!
I teach elementary Health and PE and this video is REALLY easy to understand for my kids. I really want to focus on good sportsmanship. I love how you all illustrated both what bad and good sportsmanship looks like. PS. i saw several students of my own in these scenarios...haha Thanks for sharing this
Thank you for the complement. Though I made this video for the kids at my Boys and Girls Club years ago, it seems to have resonated with many PE classes in elementary schools. Glad I could help.
Yes. I have a question about this video. I like your video, good humor, etc., except for the following: I have been in various PE classes many times as an adult. The number 1 problem I have observed BY FAR in youth playing sports was not mentioned in your list of bad behavior. It is this: bigger or more aggressive kids bullying or physically harming the less aggressive children. It appears in your video that everything get turned around and the victims are blamed.
Thanks for watching and for the comment. I believe bullying is a whole different topic that is not included in this video. This video was meant specifically for the kids at my Boys and Girls Club addressing specific observations I had made in the area of Sportsmanship. I had no idea that thousands of people in the PE world would stumble across it, but am honored that they have. At the time this video was made, many kids were really good at playing the victim role and victim mentality was rampant in many of the kids attending at the time. Blaming people who are hurt was never the intention of the video. Obviously if someone is hurt, then something is wrong...what I was addressing with my kids at the time were those kids who clearly weren't hurt but were really good at pretending. I believe the bigger and aggressive that you observe kids could possibly relate to the 'helper' role. If they are more focused on helping others play the game, then hurting smaller competitors will be less of an issue.
