Personally I prefer this version over the original but only because this was the version I heard first & I also love what Fabulous brought to the song. But both are definitely R&B classics, Tamia is amazing.

I think you are primed to listen to Eric Benet and Tamia “spend my life with you”. As a side note, her battle with MS has not diminished her vocal prowess. Her and Benet gave a zoom version of this song during this quarantine. She is still a vocal gift To us all.

I still hear this song a lot nowadays. It reminds me of my junior year in high school. Tamia is such an underrated voice that never really got the proper shine she deserved. She could have been a huge star and still looks and sounds great now.

Fabulous originally did this song with Ashanti in 2003 But when he tried to do the video Ashanti was not accessible due to possibly blocking by Irv Gotti. He had to reach out to the original 1998 singer Tamia to re-record and do the video. The Ashanti version and this both played on the radio back in the day.

Jake, this is actually Fab ft. Tamia. He sampled her song, so it not a remix. In fact, the songs are years apart. When fab first recorded it, it was ft Ashanti. I guess he thought it would make sense to have the originator so he recorded with Tamia but you can find both versions on his album.

Ashanti originally sang the hook and ad-libs on the original version of this song. I guess behind-the-sceen tensions with record labels/management/artists caused Tamia to be asked onto the song & music video (since she wrote & recorded the original song).

It's really cool, because they each refer to each other's songs in their portion of the song, and sonically it is perfection! The video is outstanding as well. Ashanti is killing the game in it!!
