I am in the camp of not wanting a lot of power. I have a FAZUA bike and rarely take it out of ECO mode. I like the moniker of 'pedal bike plus' in that you get a little bit of assistance just to take the edge off.

Same for me. I thought I would get an ebike in 10years at least, when older, but just bought a fuel exe and it's perfect! Turbo is already a loottt and use it when its hot (feels like of 35-38C) or when I only have 1.5/2h hours max to ride before working! I've rented a Rocky Mountain Altitude last year (first ride on an ebike ever) and hated it! Heavy and 108nm wtf that was like a dirt bike!! Going up a steep fireroad I have to put my weight over the front wheel otherwise it could go up and wheelie like a dirtbike! Really?! I think this is more for the DH crowd who are only biking for the downhills but I do mtn bike to be in shape while having fun. I like to sweat and feel that I am doing a sport.

Just sold my 85nm Bosch powered e-bike for the same reason. Picked up a Fuel exe and it’s perfect for me. My mates all have full powered e-bikes and the only time it’s a challenge to keep up with them, is if they turbo it up climbs but I don’t mind that. On the flatter terrain they struggle to keep up with me and going downhill there’s nothing really in it.

my Rail weighs 22kg (48.4 lbs.) , has 85NM of torque, 625 battery, Stroked it out just like Rob did (157mm rear and 170mm front). Sure this Slash will descend better and have more natural feel. ( I have new session and the high pivot is magic). BUT as others have said, DJI let us all know what is now possible. I will hold out for this exact bike with full power, full range and less weight. Not enough here yet to have my purchase.

A great bike from Trek, lot of negativity about the TQ motor with most comments not enough power, that’s the point it’s not trying to compete with the full fats it’s like you said Rob it’s a more trying to be a peddle bike that allows you to do a bit more personally I don’t want the full fat power yet just still want to be the rider and not the passenger in the climbs my only gripe with the exe was the range the new battery has fixed that this bike will certainly be the death of analogue big travel enduro bikes now one other point that a lot of people oversee on the TQ motor it’s one of the few motors that carries a IP67 waterproof rating which for someone like me in the UK is a massive consideration especially as a few of my mates Bosch CX motors have conked due to water ingress

Trek built a bike no one really wants, as a rail owner I like it but it doesn't have enough power & range and steam riders won't buy because it's got a motor, they've obviously developed this bike over the last few yrs so have missed the boat on the new motors.

I get that most people will buy full power bikes in the end. I'd however prefer a low power bike because of the the terrain available to me and I want to ride for the grinds up the hill, the main reason I'd like a motor is for the trip to the forest. The price however is far beyond my budget.

Interesting to contrast the Slash with the Decoy SN, which you were far less positive about, despite it being essentially the same proposition. I guess Rob just really wants to try a high pivot! I tend to agree with Adam that there's little point having a low power motor on such a descent focused bike. The mid-power motors are surely best suited for trail riding, not winch and plummet.

I already have 2022 Slash 9.8 XT which is a killer and i also got Gen 4 Trek rail 9.8 GX. Rail has been an absolute tank. Im kinda interested in this Slash +, but i think ill wait for another generation. Riding so much on rail and slash i think its like combo of rail and slash. Its like the fun of rail and the agressive built of Slash. However i think i will have hard time changing to 50 NM motor.
This bike is mainly made to smash pure mountainbike terrain, downhill etc. But 50 NM is kinda disspointing. My rail at 85 NM and 750W can ride for many hours into turbo mode. I never ran out of battery before i was dead tired. This Slash would be so much more fun if it had like 85NM motor and 600w battery. They could have compensated a bit on the weight. It would be something similar to canyon torque on. Idk to early to say, but that 50NM motor is a bit to weak for me.

I think this is a fantastic looking bike. Not every rider comes from a full fat riding background. Its priced close to a normal slash which makes this a great option for analogue riders moving into the ebike world. The alternative is the new specialized ksl 2 which the battery is too small. 580wh is a great choice. This is a better bike than the ksl gen 2 in my opinion.

You guys touched on it but it could have been more emphasised that this is a Slash replacement not a Rail replacement. If you want winch and plummet the Rail is still an option. I will say that Trek make very good looking bikes. On the ebikes in particular they are smart about the colour scheme, as it aides in making the bike silhuette appear smaller. With that said, I do not see the logic in introducing the TQ system to a full blown enduro bike. Already on the Fuel EXe people complained about the motor being underpowered - and that is on a trail bike. I am also surprised by Trek introducing yet another bike to their line-up when they already have a full-powered ebike for the big hits and jumps - the Trek Rail.

I agree with Will. Mullet bikes also look like dogs relieving themselves...just saying.

I’ve with Adam, I’m just over 100kg so all these new bikes with small motor and battery does nothing for me, I’ve a 2022 mondraker crafty XR and want to change my bike but waiting for that breakthrough in technology, give me more travel, more nm, bigger battery and less weight, manufacturers are now giving you less bike for more ££££

Checkout the Norco Range VLT 2024. Bosch CX 85nm, 750Wh, high pivot, longer travel, better price.

Motor is to small for a big hit bike on the Trek.... makes no sense 😅 Just the industry inventing rubbish again. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

nope. for pure mtbers, i suspect on target. downhill focused for big hits, natural feel, bit of power for self shuttle.

I hear you. I think bigger motor would compromise the weight. Def gonna have to earn your effort, but for the right person I think it makes sense. I’ll stick with my Turbo Levo at 38LBS however 🥲

Ebikes are so fun and weird. The bro with the orange hat just needs to switch to motocross with an Electric motorcycle. I have because lets be honest if your complaining about pedaling, don't care about clunking noises and bombing trails back to back. My friend just admit your a motocross not a mountain biker. No harm in that and ypu will enjoy it more. For those fat weekend warriors who still like to pedal and keep up with fit men like yourselves this will be perfect. But Yes under powered, but again were to the point full juice e-bike kick out as much power as a 1st gen electric motorcycle. Your complaining about this bike not being as powerful as an electric motorcycle end of the day. Anyway, ride what ever you want, don't front on something your not.

If guys at your age need ebikes you are completely in the wrong sport. And at the price you can get a grown up motorbike that will last longer and can be used on the road efficiently. If you want assistance in riding get to the gym or ride more and get in shape.

“What’s the point?” What a recidivistic way of offering a constructive appraisal of anything😢 My respond of that is, “What’s the point of a podcaster who summarises their professional appraisal as, ‘What’s the point?’?” Sorry Rob, but I was really irritated by that negativity. And spending time on the curve of the top tube to define an opinion, that too is, frankly, dismissive in this context. There’s injecting a bit of banter to jolly up a pod, but this is doing it for the sake of it. Poor.
