We were mesmerized, jaws dropped and in-between songs spoke to him about taking the train in from Princeton to busk around the city and a bit about his astounding methods. We had to get back to the club where we informed the owner he must get this young man in and fill the club with music industry folks. Rob Crocker a preeminent DJ on WRVR came to see him and rest is his story!

Had the honor of meeting him and standing essentially 'next' to him when he played at Rutgers University Camden NJ in 1987. Blown away by his musicianship and gentle demeanor. Time flies.

1st time I saw Stanley Jordan play was on the Tonight Show, the great Johnny Carson introduced him to the world. I was a young man than, I am 61 now. I was a fan from note 1, this was around the mid 80's. This guy was amazing then, he is amazing now!
Crazy that he’s been playing like this for ~40 years and only in the past 10 or so have we seen people catching up and he’s clearly been pioneering/refining his technique that whole time. He’s definitely improvising on at least to some degree but I’d guess a significant amount on the lead lines and wouldn’t be surprised if the majority of both hands were and structure were. That is absolutely insane to me because his left hand stays so consistent in the moments I am 100% sure he’s improvising with his right. Keeping the dynamics and accuracy so clean and still sounding each note in one hand while focusing on the other is so far beyond the capabilities of almost every other guitarist on this planet. I can think of maybe 2-3 guitarists tops who would even believe could attempt that but I don’t believe they could come close to Stanley Jordan in a live situation
him playing the piano would be more efficient. to me, the guitar's strength is its ability to manipulate the notes and amplify it with effects, and that's being wasted here if you only tap or hammer on/pulloff.

What was really impressive was he had about 4 rows of just about every type of effect pedal you could think of in front of him, and of course he knew exactly which one to hit at what time all while moving what appeared to be wildly steady with two hands on his fretboard. It helped that the sound was impeccable, I'm assuming his own soundman traveled with him. Definitely a master!

quite often, I feel a bit reluctant to watch videos of old bands and musicians performing, feeling their best years have gone by... but there is a difference when we are talking about pure music, pure technique, it only gets better and better. like the other day I saw Jack Dejhonette playing like a breeze what used to be a hell lot of drumming in Miles Davis quintet. (or quartet, excuse me, but definitely not a trio).
Incredible player! I think it was in the ‘80s-he was the opener for, hmm, Kenny G (I think!). I had never heard of him, then he amazed the audience-been a fan ever since. Great to see his incredible skills still at such a tremendous level! God bless you, SJ!

Stanley don't let them bleach your skin your curly is natural and god given get rid of weave you don't need it you are gifted. You don't need anything else
30 years now I been listening to Stanley. The problem is that there is no equal. Nothing like this has ever been done before. So it's a hard sell. Incomparable
I wouldn't say nothing. Check out Charlie Hunter. He gets a better low end + more groove because of his guitar setup (separate channel for bass and guitar).
Actually, Emmitt Chapman invented the Stick, which is a 10 or 12 stringed instrument designed specifically for two handed tapping that was developed in the early 70's before Stanley decided to do his two handed tapping technique on a 6 string guitar.
I saw Stanley Jordan at Saratoga performing arts center (SPAC) He was part of the Jazz Festival, and he took a break and said his hands hurt, and he spoke a little bit. Stanley Jordan seemed shy and introverted in a very Extroverted way, back in the late 80s.
My guitar teacher took me to see Stanley in ‘85 when he was busking on street corners in NYC.

Stanley on a 1-4-5 blues in E is pure magic. I've never seen or heard him do this.
It’s definitely pure magic, however it’s predominantly in G since he’s always coming back to the third fret of the E string for the one chord
I'm a pretty strict classical guitarist , but no matter the genre I recognize a master when I hear one .
I feel sorry for you. The worst musicians to be around are uptight strict ones. Especially classical ones. 🙄

I've been a fan since Magic Touch came out. Saw him at King's Place in London a few years sgo and was not disappointed. A unique talent.
Hes been a Master of Masters for years.
Saw his hendrix tour in 2022 and it was sublime, no tapping but absolutely sublime.
