This week's question is: "Hey, Neil. Great video as always. I have one doubt. When you use the same article from a blog on LinkedIn article or something else, does Google see it as suspicious, like duplicate content?"
0:25 Here's the thing with duplicate content they don't care so much about duplicate content, they more so care about the user experience. So if you're just jacking someone's content, and you're just taking it word for word, and you're not providing any other value, you're not going to get penalized, you just won't rank that high for that article.
2:10 A strategy that David invented for us, and this strategy worked really well, and we're still doing this today, I used to take my blog content and put it all on LinkedIn verbatim, the introduction sells the rest of the article, and he always took the introduction and he put at the end of it: click to continue reading, and it drove traffic back to the website.
Not only, yes, but it's also duplicate content, Google didn't care. We still ranked well on Google, but we are generating traffic from LinkedIn, and more importantly, we're generating conversions, right? Traffic without sales doesn't matter.
3:00 Now if you're releasing content on social media: videos, audio clips, and you're just putting them on Instagram, Facebook, RUclips, LinkedIn, whatever it may be, put them everywhere. It doesn't matter if the text is the same, the videos are the same. Even though there's overlapping in audiences, you'll find that you'll get more viewership in general by just putting the same content everywhere.
3:30 We put our RUclips videos on RUclips, right, when you compress them, and you set them up, and you optimize them for us. We do RUclips, we do Facebook, and we do LinkedIn. And funny enough, RUclips does well, Facebook's does well, but we've been getting more views, than anywhere else right now, on LinkedIn.
3:45 LinkedIn, even though we have fewer followers on LinkedIn, they lack video content, so they're pushing it harder than any other channel, and they're doing free marketing for us. So make sure you're pushing out your content everywhere. Social media doesn't matter on duplicates.
4:00 Now if you want to take that same video and audio content that you put on social media sites on your website, like neilpatel.com, yes, you'll get engagement, but you probably won't get as much engagement as you will from the social sites, and you'll find that the video content that you put out on your website and the audio content that you put on your website, even if you add in the transcriptions on your site, it won't get much Google love.
5:00 I create videos for both my companies, put it on RUclips, and then we have a writer take the main points of that and extrapolate it, and make a different article and a longer article for SEO. Curious, would that make sense to do?
That works well. I don't know if you're doing this, but I would do that plus take the video format and embed it into the articles.
5:50 By adding your videos to your website, your time on site increases, your user metrics go up, and you'll find that your overall Google rankings will increase, but the key is not to just have videos on your site, it's text, as Adam was mentioning, and embed the videos, so that that way people watch videos on your website plus read the text, the time on site increases, user metrics go up, which overall increases your rankings for your whole site.

It may not make you rank right away. There are other factors that cause ranking vas well like domain authority.

I am a little confused however with the whole putting videos on your own website.
Before watching this video I had planned on putting all my video content that I have on RUclips and other social media platforms that has all been transcripted on to my website, to try and get some more Google juice.
But then when you said you did it, but out no follows on them I nearly fell of my chair. But then you when Adam said that he did you, but that he just wrote a post about it as well, you said it was a great idea and to make sure you have the video linked in there.
So mate, I'm confused. If it is a good process to have then why don't you do it with your stuff?
Also a second question for you (if I can)
If we are embedding videos to our website for which we have content written on that page as well about that video, then are we better off using RUclips as the platform to host the video, or one of the other video hosting sites, like Vimeo or Wisteria?

Thanks for the insights. What are SEO implications of pasting your same content into two different blog posts on your site. Like if the same three paragraphs of text apply to multiple different posts you have so you past into both. Ex: maximize your trip to Staples Center and a Maximize your visit to LA Coliseum post and pasting same "Downtown LA attractions" section into both posts. Will google punish this? A way to have this duplicate content without being hurt by Google?
I would avoid doing that. Or add different attractions to each one instead of the same ones. Better to have unique content on each page.
I really enjoy watching your videos Neil, they are really beneficial. A quick couple of questions for you, if you could be able to answer.
I have two exact websites with the same content in it, but with two different domain names is this a bad thing for Google, will I get penalized?
And the other question is this.
I have a B2B event website with it's brand domain name and each event on this brand domain has its own unique event page. Now what I have done additionally is that I have copied the pages of these events from my main website and build websites for each of these pages separately with unique keyworded domain names so they can rank high in google for those keywords and after the visitor reaches the keyworded websites, they will see this particular event they are looking for, but if they click anywhere else in this page of the keyworded website, let's say to register or order brochure or contact us, or anything else, it will point them directly to the main website area with the branded domain name. Is this a bad example that I am following?

Instead of having two completely different sites with the same content, why not just have one site and have the other domains redirect to your main site?

The event page itself, with the keyword in the domain name or the page on the main website with the same content. Although the event page, it is linked with the main website if you click anywhere in the options on this web page. But I am not sure what impact will Google have on this strategy. Will they penalize both websites?

Is it ok to embeds RUclips videos on your blog posts for Google love? Basically writing content from the video but also using the video as a supplemental/addition to your post (maybe towards the end)?

Great SEO hack, thanks for sharing! That leaves me wondering...I have some strong RUclips videos that rank on the first page on Google search for certain keywords. If I create an article around it, embed the video as you suggested, is there a chance that not only my videos rank on the first page, but also my website with the blog article about the keyword? Is that something that you recommend? If yes, can I just use the videos transcript and make it, say, "readable" and fun to read? PS: On my website, I am using a java script that buffers embedded videos only if users click on it. Does the video embed need to be via or is it "okay" for Google to have the java script embed?

Neil, dude, as always, thank you!! Could you please tell me if the below strategy is ok? Sounds like it would be...
I am looking to consolidate 2 websites to 1 (easier to manage). So I'm wanting to copy the relevant blogs from the 1 site and post these on the other site. I will redirect the 1 site to the other, but ultimately I want to take down that site.
Brief Background: I'm a metal musician, and my artist page is the one I'm keeping and putting everything on. The other site was for guitar players (writing content based on my RUclips guitar related videos). The thing is, most of my music fans are guitar players, so it doesn't really make sense to have 2 sites. For some reason I have been struggling with this decision for a long time, but I'm ready to move forward...sometimes we let emotions get in the way of what we really need to do!

Merging the two sites is fine. Just make sure to 301 redirect the original site to the new site when you do the merge.

Translating content into different languages is totally fine :) You won't deal with duplicate content.

For example on a recruitment agency website, there might be multiple jobs with same job descriptions, does it matter website SEO???

Neil - My boss wants me to duplicate the content of the home page for one of our sites, slightly tailor the content towards specific locations, and set the pages up against the same domain but have the slug set to that specific area.
He thinks this is a great idea, but I'm concerned about duplicate content penalising our ranking for our home page.

I think it's a good idea to have separate pages for locations, but I would advise against having duplicate content. You want unique pages that optimized for location.

Google won't pay attention to it. All my articles are 100% original, but sometimes I'd like post important content for my readers without having to write a post.
You had mentioned that it's ok to write an article and then post some duplicate content from another site (no need to re-write what has been said well already) so why not post an entire article from time to time, but no index it because it's 100% duplicated.

You're going to need to set up redirects, friend! I'd work with a web developer who can help you do this accurately without messing with your SEO

And also to add to that I also want to mention that try to "lazy load" the video by first loading a static image file and on-click it loads the complete video or else it would negatively affect your page load time

You can create new, unique content that is based on the original descriptions but slightly different

There are way more factors than just quantity. Because of that it is impossible to say.

Neil, What if I'm writing a "how-to" blog and find a tutorial on it, try to spin the words a bit and then publish it to my blogs, will it be duplicate content? can I do that?
That's never a good idea, friend. You want to make your content unique, with it's own brand voice and tone :) Stand a part from your competitors.
It's alright to look at the SERPs and get some inspiration, but don't spin the content.

It does!
We have used a plugin in our wordpress site so that nobody can copy our content. Is this good? Because what I saw was some youtubers used to say exactly what was written in our blog. Is this good in terms of SEO or bad?
Which plugin? You mean people can't copy and paste?
Ok first of all, dont use Wordpress, not only is it vulnerable to hackers but its also really slow unless your a developer or technical person it continues to get slower with time. Secondly, if you want to stop people of copying content you can do so with simple JavaScript which should be loaded after Dom Ready and not using any plugins. And lastly, coming back to your question from a purely SEO point of view, there is no harm in blocking people from being able to copy your content. So you need to decide whether this is something you want to do from a business or marketing benefit and then go ahead and make the change. And also as a sidenote, unless you convert text to image (which isnt good for SEO), if someone really wants to copy your content they can always turn off JavaScript and do so. That said its still worth the protection as most non-technical users wouldnt take that effort.

As far as I see it, it wouldn't have any negative effect in and of itself but it would definitely not increase your rankings. Google today is not the same as Google in 2010 as its AI algorithms actually can understand what your content is about so if it finds something of no or less value then it would never rank it. So if you want to rank better with content you need to invest on creating proper detailed and meaningful content for your target audiences.

What's the differnece between duplicate content and plagiarism
Duplicate content is content that is the same on your own site. Plagiarism is stealing others content and posting it as your own.
