Game Pass can make money for very small indie games, but none for AAA budget games. That’s the truth. Game Pass isn’t sustainable anymore.

HiFi Rush flopped so badly that not only did Shinji Mikami leave the studio same month the game launched, but now the studio got shut down as well. HiFi Rush was the only decent game Xbox had too, which is now available on PS5 and sold better on PS5 too. 😂
That’s insane considering Microsoft also just did 2,000 layoffs at Activision Blizzard a few weeks back.

@@metatronblackIt did flop. The only people that played it are the people that downloaded it from Game Pass, and they saw very little money from those downloads. It sold nothing on Xbox in regards to developer to consumer sales. Xbox players don’t buy games.

Pathetic. That's all I can say. They just closed the studio that released their best game in years (Tango Gameworks). It's time for Phil Spencer and especially Matt Booty to step down or be replaced).

Losing Tango Gameworks just sucks, I absolutely adored The Evil Within 1 & 2, now we're definitely not getting a third entry.

Tango games weren't selling enough to make profit so they were no longer beneficial in working on the games they were working on.. u move them to work on a game that's making profit..
Hopefully the staff from those studios can find work sony could hire some to join their studios.

Xbox only likes big name franchises. That’s why they still keep making the same three games for so long, halo , forza and gears . I laughed when the xbots were naming all these old games that ABK and Bethesda used to make, and Xbox was going to do much better. Problem seems to be with Xbox , after they buy studios the talent leaves. Arkane lost 70% of their staff during Redfall development. Tango lost its founder and some other top people .
Not even their big IPs will stay at Xbox for long

Brother, they literally shut down or cut off the stuff I cared about the most at both Activision and Bethesda.
And we thought the 1800 people being layed off was bad enough? These are 4 entire studios being closed down for good. This is the biggest indication that we're heading for another video game industry crash. It might not be as bad compared to the last crash but still terrible for people losing their jobs.
This is normal behaviour for a corporated business. I lost my job after 19 years because we were acquired by an equity firm and they restructured the business and shut many of them down. It sucks but they have to please investors. Zenimax probably said "take the whole portfolio or you get nothing". Usually you can't just cherry pick which ones you want during an acquisition unless your Embracer which is selling studios off to the highest bidder one by one.
Hopefully many of the talented developers will be picked up by either MS's Studios or 3rd part studios. I wish them luck.

this sucks because i loved hi-fi rush it was such a great game and it breaks my heart tango game works gets shutdown.
With the success of the Fallout TV show, I bet they're rolling a bunch of these closed studios developers into the Fallout team to start cranking out new fallout games.
If they don't play their cards right its only a matter of time until Bethesda itself is devoured
This is what happens when you rent your titles instead of selling it...I fear, Ninja Theory is next on the chopping block. I don't see a lot of marketing...I fear worse for the devs...What really pisses me off, is the fact if you lost faith in a studio...don't you just sell off the studio and recover what you actually paid for..

GREAT... Instead of getting Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 & 4, we're "getting" more COD - a lazy rinse and repeat of 1st person shooter maps and short/terrible campaigns - all for the low price of $70 plus MTX and insane special editions.
Microsoft has become a vacuous shell of a company. They buy publishers and studios to gobble up what they think is market share - only to suck the creativity and life out of these teams because they run everything off a spreadsheet. Microsoft reminds me of the major labels in music that use and abuse artists. I won't touch an XBOX. They've lost their way.
My thoughts and sincere prayers go out to these studios and their employees. I hope they find a good home with a studio that values creative direction and quality ideas. As consumers, our job is to support these studios. In other words, stay OFF Game Pass, which - in my opinion - is largely to blame.

This is why I was never for the acquisitions. It was kind of ok when they were just screwing up Halo, Gears and Forza, but now it’s like a third of all longstanding game franchises.
I suppose the silver liner is that it creates space for new entrants/developers/publishers with new ideas.

I think I might have to sell my ps5 and series x after what is happening with the gaming industry. I don’t think I will though because my mom bought it for me for Xmas 2020 and if I tell her I want to sell my ps5 she’ll be pissed off because she just wasted money on that. But I wish I have a gaming pc so I can learn how to emulate games from every console that came out from retro to modern. Also I am pissed off at Sony for censoring stellar blade, and ff7 rebirth. I’m still gonna play those games but I will no longer pre order games from Sony ever again. I will either wait for reviews, on sale, or if Sony does not fuck up again with the censorship. The gaming industry is dying and I’m really worried for the future. 😭😭😭
PC is definitely where it's at these days. Lots of great indie games and like you said emulators for retro games as well. Plus Xbox games are on PC, and PS had been putting some of their games on PS too.

I’m not a doomer by any means, but seeing the state of Xbox and how Sony has dropped the ball this gen with 1st party game releases I am losing a lot of hope for this industry.
