- This Milwaukee M18 18v 5ah battery won't charge or power a tool and is showing only 13v on the multimeter. So I took it apart and found one bank of cells to be defective I replaced the offending cells and still it wouldn't work even though the voltage was within the chargeable range I ended up replacing the pcb board with a knock off one from ebay this got the battery working and charging again.

Thxs for the video very informative. Is this issue with cells normally a Milwaukee issue?
Lithium battery packs are all prone to this regardless of the brand
Great demonstration for the batteries fix as always, unfortunately I have the same problem with my 12.ah battery it flashes like this, ~& I charged the battery manually up to 4.07V in each pack inside but it still flashes and refuse to work, did you face same problem or not?
When that happens I replace the board but I haven't been able to source boards for the larger batteries yet 8ah and 12ah
I've had this happen often, and so for (other than one with 3 dead cells) I've been able to solve the issue by unplugging the charger with the battery on it, wait until the light stops flashing (sometimes take a few moments), then plugging the charger back in. Leave the battery on the charger the whole time, make sure it's fully seated, and you have to wait for the light to turn off after unplugging with the battery fully seated. I found this out by chance, and with all but one Christmas light display, this has solved the failure to start charging problem.
@@TikkaHorse that's awesome thanks for the tip

The Spot Welder that you let it on description is not the same like in your video.can you tell me your model please?😊
I bought that one some time ago the one in the link is the closest I can see
What if the light stays green and battery is not charged
Could be broken connection bad cells faulty pcb cell imbalance you wouldn't know without opening the battery pack
@doctorlefthandthread its crazy though i have 4) M12 6.0 batteries blink red and green and those are brand new and have 3) M18 12.0 and 1) M18 9.0 that stay green and dont charge and these are almost brand new
@@excdalmt7807 did you check the voltage of the battery and the cell individual bank voltage?
I have a battery it has 4 v at each cell and 18 v at the terminals it won’t charge o mr run a drill it will light up a torch do you think it will be the pcb board ?
Yes but try this first

Thank s tried that it didn’t work will change the pcb. The only thing I didn’t mention is that none of the lights on the battery light up 👍
Still waiting for my new circuit board but I bought another battery today it’s full of water I’m drying it out I’m getting no voltage no light what’s your thoughts is it possible to revive it? Thanks
@@maddawglodbrock1380 in my opinion no the water damage always seems to fry the board I did manage to revive the cells in a makita but had to get a new board fitted
Thanks I’ve just stuck another test on the one I’ve a pcb for i was getting 18 v and 4v at each cell now I’m getting 16 v at the terminals and nothing on the cell what would have caused that to change thanks
Do you have a link for who you buy yours pcb boards from on eBay mine was supposed to come from London and came from china poorly packed thank in advance 👍
I get them from ebay and they are from China www.ebay.co.uk/itm/235248414701?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=ujlvx--aqj2&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=cjPn_ZfdQLW&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
Thanks will give it a go👍
@@maddawglodbrock1380 good luck
Nice if everyone has the same tools as you.
I connected my new pcb the charger does not even flash at all like nothing is connected when I put a jump to it the bbattery terminals they will light up soon I disconnect them there no light any ideas? Thanks
Have you tried it on the charger?
Are there broken connections?
What voltage is coming out of the top?
It’s. Not recognised by the charger and doesn’t flash the charger what so ever. Think it could be a faulty pcb as ther is no continuity between the second from left terminal and second from right
@@maddawglodbrock1380 has to be faulty
The problem is not the battery, the problem is the battery charger.
Not always true there is a reason those cells dropped so low it could be the health of the cells struggling to hold the charge hence why they discharged lower than the others meaning yes its still the batteries as I've had packs I've used slow charger on the build them back and they still discharge faster than the other cells and you get a similar issue every time
Brah milwaukee never made a battery with that number 5 font style. Better return this ebay counterfeit and get a real milwaukee buddy.
I think that battery is genuine I could be wrong but counterfeits are usually worse build quality
Look up European M18 batteries. They all have that font. I was also confused the first time seeing an M18 battery not sold in America.
What a clown. These are UK batteries you nub
Website for aftermarket PCBs you are happy with? Thanks in advance 👍
