    I've watched almost every discussion from the actors, writer and director and this might be the best conversation yet. I learned more here than some of the others combined.

    Love Lena's commentary on balance. It almost seemed of natural of Slim but, I quickly realized the necessity. There's a poetic rhythm to the balance throughout the film. (Love love love every bit of this movie!)

    • @denisedean2446
      @denisedean2446 4 года назад

      Erika Million It wasn't extreme, it actually happened here also in Maryland in Prince George Cnty known notoriously for police brutality against Blacks and two cops took 15 year old Terrence Johnson down in the basement of police station and beat him. In self defense he managed to grab one of the officers gun and killed the two cops. Really his life story should be a movie because it has similarities except he was a baby face kid looked like Prince and placed in prison to serve 20 years and he was sexually brutalized, came out of prison and became a lawyer but died tragically. Some said he was haunted by what happened to ad a kid in prison and suffered from PTSD. www.flickr.com/photos/washington_area_spark/19711452671

      Copula deletion or Zero Copula... a copula = "is" or "be" or "are".. an example would be "Not everybody happy" instead of "Not everybody *is* happy"

    It’s embarrassing that African Americans complain about Black British actions being in American films but the white community doesn’t do the same

  • @lindar6326
    @lindar6326 4 года назад +2

    AMERICAN ACTORS ARE BEING OUTSOURCED TO FORIEGNERS . BOTH THE MAN AND LADY LEADING ROLES ARE BRITISH. NO AMERICAN ACTORS PLAYING THEMSELVES!!!! BRITTYWOOD

    • @DeeperThanMyThoughts
      @DeeperThanMyThoughts 4 года назад +1

      Playing themselves? This is a fictional story firstly, portraying love, connection, trama, bonding, injustice and a journey of self-discovery. Why do the actors have to be American in order to portray that? Should I reel off the countless American actors who've not only played British characters but African characters also? Meryl Streep - Margaret Thatcher, Gwyneth Paltrow - Sliding Doors, Emma, Shakespeare in Love, Denzel Washington - Cry Freedom (Steve Biko), Much A Do About Nothing. You should connect with this title because it's a lot like your rant!
      Morgan Freeman - Long Walk to Freedom (Nelson Mandela) I could go on all freaking day. Acting is a portrayal of a written character brought to life from paper to screen, end of. Stop romanticising struggle.

      @@DeeperThanMyThoughts Your point is Correct , they did a Great job, The issue that is a concern is Black American Actors will not find work If all the BLACK AMERICAN ROLES are continuously given to British actors. What is wrong with BRITISH film industry....yeah it Sucks, it is not recognized INTERNATIONALLY, So compromise is needed here . There should have been A BRITISH guy and American woman or vice versa To maintain balance. If not.... uh y'all BRITISH don't know how we could get here in America, We will stop buying tickets , A balance has to be in check Because y'all can't come over here taking our jobs. Build your own people Up. We fought to get a chance , you Cowards fight to create in your Awful movie industry

    • @lindar6326
      @lindar6326 4 года назад

      Just because I have AN ISSUE with job balance , doesn't mean I don't love y'all. I LOVE Y'ALL. YOU BLACK BRITISH Is Awesome IT'S A JOB THING , try to understand that we Still have a hard TIME getting BLACK ROLES.

    • @DeeperThanMyThoughts
      @DeeperThanMyThoughts 4 года назад +2

      @@lindar6326 This is not a love for, nor protection for black Americans in the industry. This is anti-blackness by way of using nationality. Had these actors been born in the US as the first generations would you be using this straw man argument?
      You do know that racism exists in the UK right? Which means the reason why you find black British actors coming to the US is because of opportunity. The representation in the UK for black actors is incredibly sparse. We do create our own productions but they are incredibly small as black people only make up 3% of the population here in the UK.
      When opportunity knocks, you open the door. The fact that you find a small pool of black British actors a threat when you have such a dominant industry tells me that your focus is in the wrong place.

    • @TeeRql
      @TeeRql 4 года назад

      DeeperThanMyThoughts the casting call clearly stated and emphasized they wanted an AMERICAN actor/actress so how they came to this conclusion is baffling. Also, this movie in itself is romanticizing struggle. It’s funny u brought that up from the valid point she made.

    I can't believe that Lena chould not find actual black Americans to play the two lead roles. I'm going to skip this film.

    • @ubiquitousseymone
      @ubiquitousseymone 4 года назад +18

      SleepyCCS Lena has quite a few Black Americans in CHI. What’s the issue with having black people from the diaspora in her movie? I cannot understand the separation. We will never get ahead as a people, due to lack of unity.

    • @jataanderson2314
      @jataanderson2314 4 года назад +18

      This is not Harriet. This is not the film to boycott because you think it will put a stamp on your black card. Sidney Portier, one of our finest actors, legends, heroes, was from the Bahamas. The context of this film is not problematic. It is a love letter to black people. Lena is a child of blackness. Listen to her words.... even in front of the others..... she is claiming our power. Maybe we can try not to silence her art since she is lifting us up with it. That's peddling backwards. We can have the Black Brit debate but I think we all know what happens when they see us. Especially our fathers, sons and brothers.

      I just saw it today. It is simply amazing. Sam L Jackson once complained about Daniel getting roles. However these 2 are simply that good. There are a ton of white actors from great britain and canada. That's just the way it is in hollywood.
