- Scenes recorded over the last few months of 2013 between Hawkesbury River and Berowra of a huge variety of diesel locomotives working hard up Cowan bank on the northern outskirts of Sydney.
Hi Bevan, thanks for your videos, always enjoyable. I live in Brooklyn and say you need to do a 2023 version. SSR in particular have dredged up an array of relics and put them back into service. Especially to move the NIF's around. I saw a candy 44 the other day and that's just the start. Alco's have sure been making a comeback on the bank.
The candy loco you saw woulda likely been 42103 the “Chumster” an EMD bulldog streamliner, the only candy 44 left is 4465 stored in Werris Creek.
When will you visit the zig zag ?
Great video! But why bother to electrify a line and then use diesels? It's expensive, and if you do it you should use it to make the investment pay for itself.
The passenger division of this network has ran entirely on overhead powered trains since the late 80s and still do.
But this is probably only a small fraction of the total tonnage! I assume it's the commuter traffic around Sydney, and the electrified part is not long enough to justify locomotive swaps on the fright trains.
The voltage in this system is only 1500v DC and I have read that it doesn't have the capacity to handle these heavy trains
@@JTGarbo electrification to Gosford opened in January 1960 (which includes Cowan Bank)
Remember when 46 , 85 and 86 class frequented this area ? I do .@@kaypac6350
