So much incredible talent, but like others have said, it would have been nice to actually see more of it. Those short-take jump cuts were incredibly jarring and made it hard to absorb the joy and energy being shared.
Great googily-moogily that was good. I can't not even guess how many hours would go into rehearsal for a routine like that. And the punishment their legs and feet must endure.....I can not imagine.
Seeing Sarah in some PMJ videos brought me here. Both Sarah and Melinda are great. Serious question here from someone who doesn't know much about this art form: Their technique seems to include a lot of arm waving and flailing for no apparent reason. Is this just for sake of style, or is there a technical reason like maybe it helps them keep their balance during some of the leg movements? I note that Irish step dancing is performed with almost no arm movement, but maybe Irish step dancing does not allow for all the kinds of taps that Sarah & Melinda can do.
That is a great question. The arm movement you see here is to keep balance and because that is what the dancer is feeling at the moment. Some tap, more the Broadway style or what you would see Fred Astaire and Ginger Rodgers perform or even the Rockets, have choreographed arms to creat a specific image to the audience. The style that Sarah and Melinda dance falls inline with more traditional tap, which is much more about the rhythm and beat. Tap was originally a street performance dance where the dancers would learn by watching and mimicking other dancers on the street. Traditional tap is an american artform that combines the rhythm of West African dance with the jigs of Irish dancers and british cloggers which can be traced back to when african slaves, the irish and british endentured slaves that clogges intermingled. You are right, Irish Dance has more restricted upper body movenent, probably as a way to be more pious since Catholism was the main religion if Irland. Even then, different regions of Irland followed the stiff upperbody movement to different levels. I believe what became the standard is fron the northern region....I could be wrong on that part though. I hope that helps explian. The book "What the Eyes Hear: a History of Tap dancing" by Brian Seibert is a great resource about the history of tap dancing, though it is very academic and hard to read.
@@kimberlylilly5995 Thanks! Awesomely informative answer. Every once in a while somebody posts a well-written comment like this, and they are great to read compared to the majority of comments.
They tap in more of a rhythm tap style, movie musicals and Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers is more about full body tap where the positions of the body as well as the tap sounds are choreographed. It is just a different style. Also rhythm tap the women are in more flat shoes, as Ginger, Eleanor Powell and Ann Miller were in heels only. Never tap danced in flats. But still it is all tap dancing! :)
Was the middle section improve or rehearsed? Either way it was really good! As a tap dancer and a musician (and someone who loves listening to music in general), I'd love to see more things like this. Thank you for putting this on youtube!
These ladies are extremely talented, skillful and a pleasure to watch but I guess I will never find a modern version of Eleanor Powell or Ann Miller. That type of class, elegance and glamour has disappeared, sadly.
Great but the orchestral band is too loud and overpowers the tapping! Needs to be a few decibels quieter please whem mixing it. (listening via headphones)
The dancers are just wonderful. I wonder why jump back and forth all the time and not let us see anything more than 5 seconds? As if a little child was operationf the camera/
These two ladies are FAB. But for me Sarah always steals the show. I think it's because she is short, it makes her look less like a wacky waving inflatable arm-flailing tubeman.

There is no lack of talent, ability & excitement. I imagine that all of the constant jump-cuts in the video were somehow intended to add to that feeling, but I found it distracting & had to simply stop watching. The video is really quite enjoyable & impressive, without the video part. Nice tight playing (& dancing). Props for that.
These girls have been practicing... alot!❤
I love how Sarah always looks like she's having the time of her life.
But she IS having the time of her life, that's for sure.
Bravo !!! ese par de cracks tap dancers, y esos musicazos merecen un fuerte aplauso!
Незаслуженно мало просмотров для такого шедевра | Undeservedly few views for such a masterpiece
These ladies are as talented as they are beautiful - which is saying a lot.
The band is so good.
My 2 favorite tappers in the same video! The arrangement was just incredible!
Lindsey Steel thank you so much. Yes. Sarah and Melinda are the best!!

Yass I'm a ten year old tap dancer and I'm. intermidete and I've been taping for 7 to 8 months and I love it
Awesome! Sarah is amazing.’so fast my God! Hot hot hot
This is just so inventive and original not to me to mention the gifted musicians and tappers. Bravo.
Sublime

Is there more of this kind of stuff somewhere? I'm obsessed with this
If you mean jazz, there's PLENTY. But the tap-dancing combo mixed in, not really. I mean, it exists, but there isn't huge amounts.
Look up Chano dominguez oye como viene.....kind'a same type....Michel camilo...or better yet Look up the documentary CALLE 54

@@ripig111 yeah, I'm familiar with PMJ. I just found this style of jazz + tapping to be really different and engaging

Hermione Granger thanks for your comment. The middle part was all improvised in the studio

This is puré WONDER , gregory hines and Michel camilo would not Done it better

Change the camera man.
Standard keep getting higher/music
Great talent but the video edits were too jumpy. Stay with the subjects longer. The feeling was too twitchy and distracting.
I have to agree. The constant cuts were driving me crazy.

change the sound manager.
The dancers are just wonderful. I wonder why jump back and forth all the time and not let us see anything more than 5 seconds? As if a little child was operationf the camera/
The music and the dancing were amazing, but all the cutting from one to the other made it really hard to enjoy any of it.

Great dancing and music but annoying camera work.
GET THEM GODDAMN TAP SHOES OFF & WEAR PROPER MARY JANE TAP SHOES
Good tappers good music awful video terrible direction
Sarah and Melinda are obviously excellent tappers. But why the video spends half its time on the musicians and not the dancers is beyond me.

Awful video. I wanted to see the wonderful tappers yet they got way less than 50 pct screen time. I had hoped to see less of guys sitting.
