Great question. Most agencies I’ve heard, that once you match its 8 weeks before you can expect an Au pair to arrive in your home. I have heard that on occasion, depending on the country and if the Au pair has their passport, maybe it’s possible to be in the US within 6 weeks, but this is the exception and not the standard. Please let me know if you have more questions! I’m happy to help how I can. Cheers.
Hallo. This is really helpful. Thanks for the information. How can i find a host family in Germany speaking countries. I have A1 certificate from Goethe institute and currently learning A2. Kind regards Agnes Namukose
Do you think its important for a host family to ask about my family as an au pair? I'm going into the matching process and I'm wondering if I should consider them not inquiring about my family/ parents a red flag haha.
Yes, absolutely! The fact that they do not want to know about your background and life in your home country is concerning. It’s not that you have to have similar family backgrounds. But family is a big part of most peoples’ lives. It forms who you are as a person. I worry if they don’t care about you now, it will not change when you live with them. The only way I would say it would be somewhat acceptable is if you have agreed to have a employer/employee relationship instead of being a member of the family. In formal interviews in the US we would not ask about people’s personal lives. But when someone is coming to live with you and be part of your family, it is critical in my opinion. Good luck! Cheers!
Yes! Not only can you write, I think it will show you are paying attention and taking notes on what they explain about things like the kids interest, activities, etc. Be careful not to take so many notes that it is distracting or causing the conversation to feel less than natural. But if you want to write a few things down, that is great! Good luck! Cheers!

Do you think it’s okay to write during the interview?
