I grew up knowing Gerry Conlon, he was the same age as me but looking 20 years older. In Belfast he was just an ordinary guy, bit extreme in his behaviour, bit of a cowboy as we might say, but no better nor worse than anybody else. Yet not the only one to suffer or die at the hands of the British.

It is absolutely disgraceful what happened to Gerry Conlon, as an Englishman myself, I find myself sick to the pit of my guts that the police could do that to people, our police back in that day were no better than Hitlers Gestapo...I am not a person who is ashamed of many things, but stories like this makes me sick

Thank you David for your honesty.
Most Irish people understand that the vast majority of good decent English people are like ourselves, discussed with corruption in politics, and police with miscarriages of justice. May Justice always, and continue to prevail, however long it takes.

I agree with what you’re saying David ‘ but the Police are just a tiny part of this’
The orders came from way above the police’
It must have been the establishment at that time’ I’m sure someone can name the top people in charge then ‘ Corrupt vile people in charge of a country’ just like that prat with a Crown 👑 on he’s head’ Shame on them all.

This still happens today. Not only in Northern Ireland or in England towards the Irish prisoners, but all over the world human and civil rights have no value, if this is useful to ideologies. What Gerry Conlon suffered because of the "British unjustice" is a shame, nor did he and the Guildford 4 had a compensation for their youth stolen away. Gerry is a great person who never stops, since his release, to fight for the human and civil rights of all the prisoners wrongly convicted.

The wrongful conviction drained the blood of both Carol and Gerry. Gerry wrote his book and did this speaking tour but suffered trauma seeking solace in substance abuse. Carole died at the age of 55.

Apparently my comments were stricken from here. Free speech, what a joke. I'll just say I'm saddened and sickened to the Guildford 4 and all those whom were affected by it, as well as those that are currently undergoing the same atrocities across the World. Sickened that I am a part of this "human race". My mother always told me I was only one person and would never make a difference when I stood against what I thought was wrong at my own expense. I say that's not true, it's when we believe that we can't make a difference we don't.
