The interplay of Dwyer's guitar playing, the keyboards, and the rhythm section is always top notch with this band. The keyboards seem to just serve the music as a way of adding psychedelic textures to the sound. Guitar goes between adding textures and locking in with the rhythm section to drive the energy towards peaks and valleys. JD just keeps getting better with this whole music thing and I am here for the ride.
Yeah I love how this band really embellishes in techniques that progressive acts of the 70s jammed with, I think Zappa, he was really all about his tone and his ability to talk and experiment with his instrumental jams, like Dwyer does, meaningless and full of feeling and exploration all in one, like some modern jazz really. I think Henchlock is a great piece
I dont know if the oh sees are underrated. It's easy to expect ratings from the masses. Oh sees are rated by a smaller group and they are rated very highyly indeed. Oh Sees for 2023. Peace
They’re right up there with the best live bands I’ve ever seen. The ability to find a vibe and play with it, to connect on such an abstract level, and do it so differently off the cuff each time in such an improvised way, it’s pure musicianship bordering on musical telepathy. It’s absofuckinglutely incredible music. Thank you x
I meet him in NYC a few years ago during a run at the Bowery Ballroom, and I had a Zappa shirt on he seemed to be into Zappa a bit. I wouldn't say he is a huge fan though.
Bought Tomas a beer in Denton Texas back in 2015 at a small bar and saw them rock like there were 10,000 fans when there were maybe 75..Then traveled to Austin to catch them at psych fest that year. Super cool guy.
These KEXP Oh Sees sessions really come close to the fantastic live experiences I had with the Oh Sees. When I play these vids loud, its like having them here playing in my Living room. June 2019 I saw them playing on Down the Rabbit hole, and I am fashinated ever since. Wow guys, what a bunch of great sounds you made. Fantastic Jazz. John is fantastic, but I appreciate the entire band at this time equally as much, great bass, great drums. love the videos as well. Keep up the good work... See you next time when you are over here in The Netherlands
Everyone in this band is running a very interesting rig. Would love to see everything going on with the keyboard set up... Dwyer is a tone god. Pretty sure he built that pedal board in another dimension...?
When someone would say 'Rock is dead' I would tell them 'John Dwyer'. Now when someone says 'Prog is dead' I tell them 'John Dwyer'. 'Guitar is dead'? You know the answer, friends...
I love it when they start with one song finish with another f'n bad-ass, also when John puts his pick in his mouth and goes off!! My new favorite band for sure
W H A T J U S T H A P P E N E D?? I just heard this for the first time and loved it to bits. It reminded me of Can, Buddy Rich, The Mighty Boosh, 60s films but so unique and exciting.
To me, Dwyer is the most authentic, uncompromising, and important musician on the planet. Just sublime...and always pushing forward
Is the best musician of the decade.
You sir, are correct!
Best guitar tones of all time, easily
Dwyer will be a legend of this era, totally creative and always adding more and reinventing the group
hippiecheezburger amen....always pushing, always going further and beyond.
You know when a dude has his guitar strapped up high, some good rock is gonna happen.
Couldn't agree more
See: Slift, Frankie and the Witch Fingers
John Dwyer has such a unique guitar tone
~HE CERTAINLY DOES..EVEN WHEN HE PLAYS THAT SUPED UP VACUUM CLEANER..LOL~
it’s that metal neck;)
So “bright” sounding!
Dat tone acrylic! 😉
SPECTRE its an EGC
Ending the song with the encrypted bounce ending is just incredible

Best prog song of the year
is it prog?
@@ili626sure why not! 😂
he usually sucks his mic while singing, but when he started playing a vacuum cleaner, i didn't know who is sucking whom.
I'm pretty sure that John digs Frank Zappa. Man, that tone
I bet he enjoys Zappa I’d be shocked if he didn’t
Considering he's making jazz music now I'd be interested quite surprised if he hadn't had any influence from him
I meet him in NYC a few years ago during a run at the Bowery Ballroom, and I had a Zappa shirt on he seemed to be into Zappa a bit. I wouldn't say he is a huge fan though.
Henchlock is like their King Kong, jazzy, prog fueled jam, the tone of the guitar, the relentless bass
@@hippiecheezburger5457 Couldn't be said better.
good to see a person that vaguely resembles another famous person playing the drums
Yes! The drummer!
Over 20 albums now, I've been onboard for almost all, they manage to keep the fire of interest consistently burning, love this band
This is it. This is the thing.
The aluminum neck tones on his Lucite is giving me the yips.

This is the best version of henchlock. Soooo fakin siiick
Oh sees are so goddamn good, they keep getting better
Otherworldly. They never disappoint.
You're witnessing something very special here
It’s cool to see the Mr. Elevator dude on the keys
that guy is a sweetheart too, glad to see the cross pollination.
HE DROPPED A NEW ALBUM

John's guitar playing is probably the best among bands today.. His style really reminds me of Neil Young with a bit more groove on it.
Wow that was a sonic journey. 👌
Yeaaaa these guys are good holy shit
I've decided that this is the best thing that Osees have done so far...what a great jam (was in to Phish before)
These KEXP Oh Sees sessions really come close to the fantastic live experiences I had with the Oh Sees.

they start playing Henchlock and end with Encrypted Bounce
whenever they play live, encrypted bounce seems to find its way in there

Man! They become perfect! never stop with this 2 drumers...
Master of his craft. At this point he just loves to see where he can take the sounds
My new favorite. Thanks again KEXP!
Original amazing music...outstanding performance!
Everyone in this band is running a very interesting rig. Would love to see everything going on with the keyboard set up...
Dwyer is a tone god. Pretty sure he built that pedal board in another dimension...?
These guys deserve more recognition. great tune.
How did Henchlock morph into Encrypted Bounce so effortlessly
It’s in the same key
That transition was orgasmic

I just fall in love with Dwyer's guitar since the first time I saw it, acrylic SG
goddamn this is the best version of this song
This has Hawkwind all over it. Fantastic
amazing
This is the "single edit" version of this song.
I didn't know he could play a wind instrument...talented guy.
He also plays a squeaky toy on The Daily Heavy. Talented guy.
So awesome!
I love how he always tries to eat the mic when he sings haha
whole lotta mouth action yessir
This is so good
Funtastico....!!!!!!!!
Tuned into encrypted bounce at the end there.
Lucite SG!? Wow!!
I think it's an Electrical Guitar Company (EGC) guitar. Their necks are full aluminium as well
Pure spectacle.

Anyone else notice that John is shredding without a fucking pick?
The man’s a demigod, I swear.

9:40 onwards is amazing
Absolutely incredible. Only thing that could make this better is if they got a bit more time to jam like on the album version.
Is there NOTHING this band CAN’T DO?!
Unreal
Zappa-esque guitar there Mr Dwyer and a Zappa funk feel ! Does it for me ;-)
Darn good stuff, was not expecting the groovy space traveler section with the electric flute.
i wonder if he knows exactly wat he has done for rock music.

The new Allman Brothers!) awesome band!
Such a huge sound for a tiny man
