In this videos alternate history, after the Philippines are liberated from Spanish rule, they have a short American statehood that made the area very rich, reaching 1 trillion gdp in 1930. After ww2, for the effort and sacrifices the Filipinos made during the war, the USA holds a referendum on if the Philippines should have more autonomy or be independent. With a 72% majority, the Philippines became independent in 1950. But with good comes bad, and after southern victory in the Vietnam war, the Philippines has a deadly coup into a communist/facist dictatorship, which leads to a 2 year long civil war in the Philippines, with the democratic and capitalist elements winning out. In the modern day, the phillipenes is the richest country in Southeast Asia with a gdp per capita of $20k, and a gdp of 5 trillion, which gives it a superpower spot and 1 of 10 spots in the UN Security Council, etc.
