Great job getting that running. Fun to watch as always. Thanks for sharing.
Well, that was a nice job. You had a lot of detective work, but got there. Looked very sharp, too! Congrats on the addition!
It's awesome to see where you were 3 months ago. Amazing what you have learned and the layout you have now. I have several Bowser models and I have replaced the motors with the ones we all get off Ali Express. It will make it much quieter and smoother. I would recommend getting some Nickle/silver wheels for the tender. The tender has a ton of room for DCC decoder. I love steam!
Woodland Scenics makes a product called “Dust Dabber” It’s great for cleaning engines or anything with small detail parts.
Nice work Dave looks good
Front set of wheels is the pilot truck, then the drivers with drive rods and then trailing truck. I had one Bowser 2-8-2 I got from my father many years ago. I did not know too much back then. It ended up in the trash. Got me confused on all the wires to the motor. You would think a wire to each brush. The more pickups the better especially in DCC. Think about a multi meter and a continuity tester. Smoke stack. Chimneys are on your house. Good job though.
Oh and perfect mount for one of those gold bells😂😂😂😂
nice job dave
Nice job. Those old open frame motors never run quiet !!
Thanks for that. I was worried I'd missed something.
Looks like success Dave great job fixing up the locomotive
The magnet on the motor might be tired if it`s not pulling well but you`ve got power to max will draw more current to, don`t solder to the brushes as the heat can make the carbon bit drop off, i`ve tried reparing them it was a mare, construction on that loco is very similar to the old tri ang hornby Locos
It did occur to me that I should keep the heat away from the brushes, but I'm an idiot, as you will have noticed by now.
I'm surprised at the nice shallow flanges ! Varney/Mantua/Riv all had too deep flanges in those days and the motor usually filled the whole cab..I guess that's why Bowser was such a respected name back then...
Those "connection bars" are the 'Side Rods'. The shorter one to the yolk/pistons is the 'Main Rod'. 23:43 is the Pilot truck and rear one is the Pony truck (in the US, anyway)..
I don't care for your new headlight. It just looks wrong. I thing you should go back to an old incandescent 'grain of wheat' bulb..
You need the two diagonal smokebox support rods from the smokebox down to the front crossbeam.
If you have the do re mi, you might slowly replace the old brass track with nickel silver or even steel rail.. The brass stuff oxidizes green too often..
Anyway, good all around fix..
Oh, and make sure the gear lash is proper. It will have much less grinding noise while powered up.
Great fix! I am leary of fixing steam locos as I don't always understand what is going on..
Nice video. It sounds like the worm gear is slightly out of alignment. If you loosen the motor mount screw you can adjust the alignment and re-tighten. This will reduce any slight binding and vibration.
Thanks Jim, I'll give that a go.
an other great video well done
Great video
That was an awkward one but well worth it SINCE ITS A STEAM LOCO...😅😅😅😅
You’ll Get it Fixed.
There called Driver Rods.
YES have to enjoy the feeling of RESTORING a piece of the past with a steam engine also just wondering will you be traveling to east end of city for whitby train show this weekend?
Thanks Pluto. No more shows for me till next year unfortunately. Got a trip to Scotland to save for.
Did you oil the siderods
Yes I did, thanks.
Was there any lubrication done to the motor and drive wheels/gears/bushings ?Or was that done off camera?
I always lube, lol.
@@ScottRails haha...👍
Mr Scott are those led bulbs 12 volt?
The one I didn't use has a resistor pre-wired which can take up to 14 volts. However, I had to add a resistor to the micro bulb I used. Easy enough to add in-line. I used a 670 ohm resistor, but anything from 600 to 1K would probably work.
@@ScottRails the reason I asked is I seen some on Temu like those that are labeled 12 volt. I wonder if they would work the same.
They are probably the same one's. I got mine from amazon, or ali express. I'm sure they come from the same chinese labour camp.
