So I was sceptical about how non - harry potter videos would turn out. It was actually really interesting and eye opening.
I work in IT / product development for a food factory in England. The waste issues are fairly similar for example when we have labels come in, they come on a pallet wrapped in plastic that is just thrown away, these are then in cardboard boxes that go to landfill, then each individual reel of labels is in an individual plastic bag. (Kinda excessive just for labels). Then all the backing paper on the label reels goes to landfill once used. We are currently in the process of improving this so now for some products label reels are not wrapped in plastic, they are just in the cardboard boxes to reduce waste. Then rather than putting the backing paper in landfill it is now getting recycled back to the factory, we fill 1 pallet worth of backing paper every 2 - 3 months. It really is surprising seeing how seemingly small things do actually build up and make a difference.

I actually just dusted off my sewing machine a couple days ago. Lol I’ve been thrifting my whole life and my grandma sometimes makes me cloths and she taught me everything I know. I fix my clothes and refashion it and donate whatever I outgrow. But yeah, now I’m gonna start making my own clothes more because I always have specific ideas about what I want anyway. Bottom line is thanks because I follow your sewing Instagram and it’s a perfect little reminder. Keep Inspiring Muggy! 🌻

You are amazing Laura!! And even if you lost subcribers I love that you work hard to be a more lovely person and a good person. It is also sad that schools dont learn us making clothes like a cultural class. But I have to say I go to the Primark but that is because I dont have a lot of money and i always wear my clothes until it is really worn out. And I wanna try/learn to repair clothes and remake things. And the stuff i dont use/wear i donate them to good will. I read an article that some shops are working on better work places.

I totally agree with you Laura. I realised what a hell the fast fashion industry is like 6 months ago and have ever since stopped buying clothes from those brands. I try to get better at thrift shopping and to upcycle clothes too but could definitely use some tips and tricks.
Keep up with your good work!

I'm so glad to see that you decided to quit fast fashion, I personally made the same decision quite a few months ago. This was a great and informative video on the subject and I'm sure it will help a lot of people to realise the truth about fast fashion and hopefully people will start to make more conscious choices when it comes to fashion. Thank you soo much for making this video!❤❤❤ I'm also just wondering where you buy your underwear? Do you have like a favourite sustainable underwear brand or where do you buy underwear now that you have quit fast fashion? I have only bought sustainable underwear from organic basics so far, and I love what they sell and highly recommend them. ❤

I love that you did this video! I've been not participating in fast fashion for quite a while and it can actually be really frustrating because I stopped watching some tubers you love when they were making loads of fast fashion hauls, also friends and family going shopping. It's really hard to not be judgy... But also it's really hard to just be quiet when you know how they're made and what an impact they have on the environment

I quite like turning old T-shirts into crop tops. It’s really easy and the end product actually looks fairly decent. On holiday they are great to wear because you can wear them when swimming or with a pair of shorts for a nice outfit.

LAURA, if you are seeking more recommendations for shows about fast fashion i really recommend "sweatshop". it has two seasons, and its about teens from nordic europe that decide to spend time working and living as sweatshop workers, in an h&m (i believe) factory.
Along with the true cost, it is my favorite docuseries about fast fashion and i actually cried (which i never do) watching the second season

Hi Laura! Do you know something about how sustainable it is to make your own clothes? I was wondering about this, because most fabrics are also made in second/third world countrys i think. Are the circumstances that these fabrics are made in better? And is the production of these fabrics not as polluting?
    Really interesting video btw!

Been changing the way i live for a few years now, I've been vegetarian for around 6 years. I buy everything cruelty free. I buy all vegan clothes (no feathers, leather, silk, pearls etc) im trying to buy all my products like shampoo etc vegan too.
I've cut my plastic waste dramatically. Started using Ecosia (if anyone doesn't know about that its a search engine that plants trees with it's revenue)
I'm not fast fashion free unfortunately but i do buy a lot less of it and the majority of my clothes from charity shops and donate anything i don't want.
Most of my furniture is second hand and I'm trying not to buy new technology from now on. Want to use my phone until it breaks and then replace it with a second hand phone. My resolution this year was to go litter picking everyday and to sort it out to the best of my ability, so what can be recycled gets recycled.
Doing things a step at a time is far easier than trying to take on a mountain. A lot of this is now just habit and just the way i live.
I don't think people don't care perse i just think they feel they can't do anything about it.
If you don't believe you can change the world, the world will never change.
    Everyone can do something.
Thanks for doing this video x ☺️

Awesome video. Well done. Love that you are highlighting this issue especially to an audience of variety too. Love that you are trying veganuary also!! Deffo reccommend doing more research on veganism for your health condition. A book called How Not To Die - there is a great website on this also by the author. Just highlights many misconceptions around diet and health. You may find that veganism is actually a great benefit to any health issue. Looking forward to some sewing vids! I learned about this when I did geography at GCSE and I remember watching a documentary where they interviewed people in sweat shops in Bangladesh and the worst part was most of them wanted to work longer hours as they needed the money and that sort of thing. They didn't seem to feel as though they were enslaved but rather it was a choice. The fact they don't realise they are being exploited and aren't actively fighting against it results in people assuming it's not happening or it's not a problem. It's all a mess tbh

    • @AchmelvichIsAce
      @AchmelvichIsAce 5 лет назад

Hand me downs are really good, especially for children's/teens' clothes which you grow out of so quickly! To me it's about getting as much use as possible out of clothes - when I was young a lot of my clothes were already 3rd hand and then would get given to charity shops or younger cousins. Now I wear most of my clothes for years until they completely wear out, so it's not often possible to donate, but I do if I by something and then after a while decide I don't wear it :)

There are some documentaries on Netflix about veganism that may help you, one is what the health and talks about the health benefits and another is cowspiracy which talks about the environment impact of animal agriculture. Thanks for making this video it’s great you’re so passionate about this issue, and I’m really glad to hear you’re working towards veganism xx

No need to be embarrased about the past choices, you didn't know any better. I love that you are talking about this issue, we as consumers can make at least a bit of a difference with where we choose to put or not put our money to! The outfit repeater thing… I'm a style instagrammer (kind of), and while I want to wear a bit different look every day to keep my feed interesting, I rather thrift my looks, alter the clothes if I can and mostly just learn to style things with a bit of imagination. I think these type of videos are a good addition/new way to your channel, they make me like your channel even more! ♥ Let's me thrifting trendy, shall we?

Um hmm make do and mend dying for sure I'm shocked when I meet someone who can't sew a button. Smh burning stock smh the fashion industry is despicable. I think consumers are spoiled as well bc when we see items that are reasonably priced for the labor ppl are like but I can go to forever 21 and get it for less like they don't want to pay the cost of true labor. Do you still know any good sewing yt videos that helped you as a beginner?
