The voice of the late.David Duffield came.into my head with the words " All he has to do is win here, and its the.Mountain Jersey all the way to.Paris!!" Rounding the last corner were my family with my 2 grandchildren shouting encouragement to me!!! I got to Paris that day, even if it was only in head!!!! ..Try it, see what happens.
How awesome would it be to to ride the Alpe and look over and see Hinault! I'm sure he would be passing my sorry ass..... He seems like a really good guy.
This is the neat thing about Hinault: even though he had that alpha-dog personality that rubbed some riders the wrong way, there's something very unassuming about him. He's not stingy about his time and energy, and is always happy to help out with a small race, or a sportif, or stuff like that. I've even heard tell of cycle tourists visiting his region, emailing him for ride recommendations, and getting a response.
@Alan 59 Good point. My new racer should arrive soon with a 36/34 low gear, it might take more than four years for the French to get vaccinated though but we live in hope.
He's way too healthy looking for his age. Let's see what the current riders look like when they get to be his age. Already Hinault has some of those younger riders beat.
