- The M1911 (Colt 1911 or Colt Government) is a single-action, recoil-operated, semi-automatic pistol chambered for the .45 ACP cartridge.[9] The pistol's formal U.S. military designation as of 1940 was Automatic Pistol, Caliber .45, M1911 for the original model adopted in March 1911, and Automatic Pistol, Caliber .45, M1911A1 for the improved M1911A1 model which entered service in 1926. The designation changed to Pistol, Caliber .45, Automatic, M1911A1 in the Vietnam War era
Designed by John Browning, the M1911 is the best-known of his designs to use the short recoil principle in its basic design. The pistol was widely copied, and this operating system rose to become the preeminent type of the 20th century and of nearly all modern centerfire pistols. It is popular with civilian shooters in competitive events such as the International Defensive Pistol Association and International Practical Shooting Confederation
The U.S. military procured around 2.7 million M1911 and M1911A1 pistols during its service life. The pistol served as the standard-issue sidearm for the United States Armed Forces from 1911 to 1985. It was widely used in World War I, World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. The M1911A1 was replaced by the adoption of the 9mm Beretta M9 pistol as the standard U.S. military sidearm in 1985. However, the U.S. Army did not replace the M1911A1 with the Beretta M9 until October 1986, and due to the M1911's popularity among users, it has not been completely phased out. Modernized derivative variants of the M1911 are still in use by some units of the U.S. Army Special Forces, U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Navy.
History
Early history and adaptations
The M1911 pistol originated in the late 1890s as the result of a search for a suitable self-loading (or semi-automatic) pistol to replace the variety of revolvers in service at the time.[15]
The United States was adopting new firearms at a phenomenal rate; several new pistols and two all-new service rifles (the M1892/96/98 Krag and M1895 Navy Lee), as well as a series of revolvers by Colt and Smith & Wesson for the Army and Navy, were adopted just in that decade.[citation needed]
The next decade would see a similar pace, including the adoption of several more revolvers and an intensive search for a self-loading pistol that would culminate in the official adoption of the M1911 after the turn of the decade.[citation needed]
Hiram S. Maxim had designed a self-loading rifle in the 1880s, but was preoccupied with machine guns. Nevertheless, the application of his principle of using cartridge energy to reload led to several self-loading pistols in 1896. The designs caught the attention of various militaries, each of which began programs to find a suitable one for their forces. In the U.S., such a program would lead to a formal test at the turn of the 20th century

Great tutorial on what NOT to do when restoring a firearm
Rough arsed want to be restorer He’s 🤬 useless 😤😤😤😤
A gun died in this video. It almost made me cry.
im no gun smith so thats why im asking this but what did he do wrong?
@@snowbossxxxmowdaddy3709I’m sure the way he used every day tools and didn’t have gunsmiths equipment
@@snowbossxxxmowdaddy3709 it's an old rusty NOT 1911 but still, if your aim is to restore it, use the proper tools for crying out loud. They make brass punch sets for a reason not just whatever screwdriver or nail you have hanging around.
Just to clarify that the description of the weapon is incorrect. This pistol is not a Colt M1911 but the Spanish version made by STAR (Echevarria)
In 9mm to boot.
First time i see a 6 fingers man 😮😮😮
Oh dear God no, he went right to the wire wheel at 9:45! Why? Once that metal is gone, it is gone! No steel wool, no gentler methods. Just a brutal attack with the grinder.
Besides being a Star, did that mag look .45 ACP to you? Wrong gun, wrong caliber. That looks like 9mm Largo.
I think the answer is, with a cheap copy gun like that, might as well. It's not like it's a historically important piece.
@@rhizomorph-music , We would have to check the serial numbers and other marks to determine whether it was historical or not. About 25,000 were used throughout WW II by the Bulgarians, Luftwaffe Fallschirmjagers, the SS and Gendarmerie in France, Nazi police units in Germany, and others. As they weren't army pistols, they didn't have a waffenampt stamp. Some were used by the German Army as well. They were used by MANY other countries and military conflicts.
I can tell from the barrel’s bore and chamber that is no 45 ACP/auto. It is certainly a 9mm and this whole video hurt me to watch. He reassembled the recoil spring backwards and before inserting the barrel bushing making the task harder on his thumbs……
@@JCTexanRyeGuy , I know. This guy committed crimes against gunsmithing. It truly made me sad as those were GOOD guns, very pleasant to shoot. My daughter prefers a Star B over anything.
I like all the "special" tools he used.....lol

Not a 1911 Colt .45 ACP. Most likely a Star mfg.(Spain)
Beautiful right thumbs!! Satisfying video.
subtle Chernobyl notes. Like drinking a La Criox and someone whispers the flavor from down the hall.
Definitely not a COLT nor a .45. Its either a Star OR Llama in .38 super.
Ignacio Echeverria in 9mm Largo
Star A 9 Largo. Llama tiene la uña extractora interna.
This is 9mm star
Regardless of what it is, it still needs to be restored most 1911s are basically all the same and military standpoint
Ok parabéns yes muinto importante a renovação parabéns ok.

Dude really?
Your channel's name all the time almost in center of the screen and your own advertisement sound every 3 minutes, made me give you a dislike.
Will not trigger any videos of you from now on.
Good luck with your channel.
Star Pistole, keine 1911 !!
If the gun doesn't shoot it's not a real restoration
Not only is it not a Colt you probably destroyed the firing pin and the safety is broken it shouldn't be that short
It´s a Ignacio Echeverria. Copy of 1911. These is in 9mm largo (maybe)
Nice job
Not a colt and its not a .45 acp nearly an spanish brand 1911 and a 9mm caliber
That's a super .38, i'm sorry i am not familiar what kind of brand/make...
Keine 1911 , Star B
Star A. 9 Largo.
Man that screw driver got a work out
Replica hand made gun
Well done my friend, from, Bayamo, Cuba
Looks like a Darra gun. The metal condition indicates it's from Darra or NWFP origin
100,000 thumbsup please I love 45s can you do more of this type firearm?your views will sky 🚀 rocket the more you make more people will sub.great job. Try to bring one back to life and make it better than new watch your views sky 🚀 rocket to the moon.good luck my friend.

That is a Star 9mm. Not a Colt 1911
It's not a colt 😂😂😂😂 just a star pistol
Where do you get these finds? Or do they come to you from someone who desires a restoration of the item?
I was wondering the same thing. How are there so many rusted guns out there and how do these folks find them? They are a bunch of "restorers" on RUclips and I suspect many of these are fakes.
From the looks of many of these they must have stored in a septic or privy tank. Saw another “restorer” channel where he was getting the rust off the plastic and non metallic parts?
Looks like Llama pistol made by spain
Thats a Star B or Bs model
When it says Star on the side, you would think Star. I hate seeing one of those old girls buried and shat on to goop it for a restore video. Very nice shooters.
Differently not a .45 ACP nor a Colt.
This pistol has a external ejector, Colt doesn’t make their 1911 with that type of ejector.
I'm familiar with 1911 having 3, 2 in 9mm and 1 in 45. But im not familiar with the parts of that gun. kindly someone enlighten me.
That screwdriver! 😅😂😂😂
Sen neden tornavida kullaniyorsun nasıl bir ustalık resterasyon yapiyorsun sert alaminyom kullanacak sın cizilmesin iz yapmasın diye

It's a Star 1911 the slide release catch is completely wrong for a Colt.
Remove the plastic scales before putting it in a vise to remove the mag. And the screw driver against the rear sight made me cringe while trying to force back the slide….
Eu confesso eu sou fan apaixonado nessa plataforma 🤤🤤🤤
What dipping solution used to remove the rust
Throw some latex gloves on, brother!
prior to restoration, how did you make it look need restoring 😂
You have balls calling this a Colt just so you can get people to watch a fake staged video!!
Its Star? no Colt. Spanish gun
horrible copy? you don't know about weapons. Star pistols are excellent weapons based on the 1911.
Super 38 llama
Haritik roshan restoration
He needs to get some decent tools . Scissors !!! Didn't think that hot water bath for the wooden stock was a good idea . The heat would have expanded the wood and water would have been absorbed. Without drying out the wood thoroughly it was stained and then sealed with varnish trapping all that water within. That/s not a Mauser.
Bai ye tum kha se lekar ate ho gun
👍
That’s 38 super not .45 acp 🤔
Bobo
Ta mare, tienes dos pulgares derechos. Provecho!
Ya I don't remember a colt 1911 .45 having a trigger mechanism that looked like that.
Thats a llama pistol in super 38.
Adamın iki baş parmağı var aga 😂😂
M1911government45No‼️
I have a 1911 colt 45 made in 1908 ww1 army issue. I have the original. It csme home from ww1
I dont think this is an orignal 45 colt 1911
Eldiven kullanmıyorsunuz boya kazanın eskimiş biraz kostik biraz nitrat nitrit ve temiz su ilave et ayrıca sert tokmak kullan 🔨 iz yapmasın
The only thing that makes me cringe about this video is all the metal tools he is using on an old weapon like this. It inevitably will leave deep scars (not that it already doesnt have them but). Perhaps wood, brass etc. would be better. JMO
