Didn't know they're going to put additional passenger service there from San Jose to Salinas.

Nice video. The friendliness of the Union Pacific crews based out of Watsonville Junction is due to the fact they are all old Southern Pacific hogheads. If you go visit their yard over at Watsonville Junction you will quickly become aware of their “I see nothing, I hear nothing, I know nothing” policy. The locomotives (which usually consist of at least one rare or unique engine) are parked right across from the yard office and they do not mind you quietly come in, walk around the power, and take some photos. If you are lucky the old Roadmaster might come out and chat with you.

NorCalRailfan Thank you ! It’s definitely always nice to know some crews are very welcoming when it comes to railfans and the general public.

Nope. The nearest Union Pacific Special Agent is based out of Oakland over 1 hour away. No security or anything either. Watsonville Junction does not have much activity except for the few local jobs which are run by high seniority former Southern Pacific crews. Just do not do anything stupid or wander too far and you will be fine.
