    Bush toilet is not TMI! That's actually one thing that scares me about going on a safari - I have a tiny bladder and I'm worried that everyone will get annoyed at me for wanting pee breaks!

    When I camped in the Mara in 1988. We had a pride of lioness and their cubs (18-24 adults/12-18 young) come through our camp just after we zipped up our tents at night. I was nearly knocked over by one, rubbing against my tent (and my cot, and left side of my body) as if scratching an itch, whilst my tent mate was a 93 year old man with emphysema, hacking away uncontrollably to my right, within the last few months of his life. After the chuffing quieted down for 5 minutes, a few of us poked our heads out and looked for our Maasai warriors that were guarding us. We found them in the mess tent with all the chairs huddled around them. The just kept saying " many lion, .....many lion. We saw the girls the next morning about half mile aways along a small tributary near the Mara river. Later, a 15 foot crocodile grabbed a zebra right next to our camp and it was all over in a minute. An hour later he was basking across the river from us, swollen from his 500 pound meal (at least).

    I worked in Uganda for a while, and I have to say that the comments about hearing lions roaring at night struck home; we camped one night in Queen Elizabeth NP (in 3 person dome tents) and had lions moving through our camp all night. Most terrifying night of my life. I think there is something about that roar that our brains are hard wired to fear in a way I’ve never felt. Your safari drive was perfect; it wouldn’t be a drive in Africa without something breaking or getting stuck! Hope you get a chance to go to Uganda or Rwanda some day and see the mountain gorillas and chimps in the wild! I love your videos, keep up the great work!

    Hi! I love your videos! They have helped me plan a few of my trips. I am going on safari for the first time next year. Is 2 nights (3-4 game drives) enough or would you suggest 3 nights (5-6 game drives)? Thank you!

    Great video and thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing. BTW, those Toyota trucks they use in game drives are actually new trucks especially if they're operated by big reputable companies. For the Kenyan market, Toyota chose to stick with that old 90's design and never change it to the new Land cruiser trucks they sell here in America. Simple reason, they work and work well. So although the design maybe late 90s early 2000s, the logic is, if it ain't broken, why fix it. The tag number will give you a hint as to the year

    • @TheAwkwardTourists
      @TheAwkwardTourists  Год назад +1

      That makes sense why they look like early 2000's trucks. Thanks for the info! They sure can go anywhere!

      We stayed at the Neptune Mara Rianta, and it was a little pricey. We thought that it would include game drives and it did not, so that was an added expense that we did not plan for. I do not know about other options as we only stayed on the one camp

      Our Guides told us that the animals wont come into the jeep, They think of it as an object that is much larger than them, so as long as we stay in the vehicle we are safe. This is pretty common practice with safari drives
