    The jump in quality from Yooka-Laylee to Impossible Lair was insane. And now seeing as they’re taking what they learned and applying it to their first game that started it all, so soon, goes to show to me that Playtonic take criticism incredibly well and always see ways to improve themselves as developers and publishers. They have so much of my respect for that

    Glad to see how well this is shaping up! I am excited to go back and play this game in an improved state. I got near the end of the original but lost interest, partly due to the emptiness I was feeling from the levels. It's very encouraging to see them mixing them up now and adding new collectables and challenges.

      @BBWahoo 22 часа назад +5

      Oof, it hurts how much I relate.
      They should have limited the final tome expansion until the post-game, and made the level design small and compact, like a little chameleon terrarium or miyamotos boxed garden philosophy, with worse graphics to save on cost, and no I'm not kidding.

    Oh my god, the not-talon-trot requiring stamina was literally one of my single biggest issues with the original. It felt like it was only implemented to make the race against that cloud guy more challenging, at the expense of making the ability way shittier and less fun in literally all other contexts. SO happy they fixed that.

      I always wondered if they did that in order for 90% of the game NOT be Laylee's noises hahaha. Like it was in Banjo, where moving as Banjo was MUCH slower and hearing Kazooie all the time got old kinda fast (and having to hold an extra button).

    I was hoping for Yooka-Laylee 2, but Replaylee looks like what the original should have been. I'm glad they are polishing this one. I found the original Yooka-Laylee kind of "meh" at best and not fit to wear Banjo's trousers, but Replaylee has me intrigued as it looks pretty polished. I'm glad they are making some design changes to improve the experience. I do love 3D platformers, but I'm still cautiously optimistic as I'm curious what other improvements they have brought to Yooka-Laylee. Might add this to my Steam wishlist if it ends up running on the Steam Deck.

    looks promising. My biggest issues were rolling cost power (and the whole power system in general), flying being so unwieldy and hard to control, and swimming having similar issues to flying. And once you had explored most of the level it was near impossible to find what you were missing.

  • @Phillylove100
    @Phillylove100 4 часа назад +1

    My biggest issues with Yooka Laylee were poor conveyance of what to do, horrible object placement (especially) the feathers, and traversal was a pain. To expound on my third issue. The talon trot equivalent had an energy gauge which was baffling and frustrating like who thought that was a good idea. And the worlds were huge but there were no warp pads like in banjo tooie. It made me quit because I didn't know what to do and getting around to find out was an absolute pain. The transformations are a perfect example of this. To give a specific example the flower transformation in world 1. Going around as the flower was incredibly slow and tedious, trying to find where to use it was a pain, and even if you knew exactly where to go it took forever, and due to lack of warp pads going all the way back to transform to normal was a pain too. All of these issues are relatively easy to fix with a remake, and I hope they do.
    Edit: LMFAO I probably should have watched more than 2 minutes of the video before commenting.

    One thing I'm really glad to see is more collectables! Hopefully there will be a lot of these hidden all over the level. I always found it disappointing that the levels all seemed to be built in a way that you could explore every nook and cranny, as long as you had the will to do so, but you were rarely ever rewarded with a collectable. Once you found the super-secret Pirate's Skull, that was it -- no longer a point to hunt for super-secret spots. I hope that's fixed in this game

    I played about half of Yooka Laylee earlier this year and after seeing what you've shown here, it looks like Replaylee is shaping up quite nicely. I really like what they've done with the visuals. It may not look too different if you haven't looked at the original in awhile, but there definitely is a fine coat of polish over everything that makes the world appear more real - lighting is much better, didn't see any 2D models like for the quills, and I agree, the added charm is definitely a plus. Since Kartos wasn't available, I'm taking that as a sign they are reworking the entire minecart mini game which was DESPERATELY needed as that whole thing controlled so unintuitively most players probably thought it was completely broken. The map looks like a huge game changer as well.
    This may not win over people who had a lot of fundamental issues with the design, but for new players it looks like it will be an easy recommendation.

    I really remember the original being O.K. not bad really, but somewhat of a disappointment and at times a slog.
    Generally I enjoyed it though, I just wished that the levels were smaller and more instanced off to be more approachable. The map expanding could have been great if they had made the areas that were expanded their own separate thing, instead of one big world for every single level.
    Bigger isn’t always better, especially in collect-a-thons.
    What you want is to be able to easily check stuff off once you complete a level, OR once you have a new power-up to go back to a separate section that you noticed to explore that separate area, not a bunch of areas in one level generally.
    The original Banjo Kazooie did that perfectly, most stages were a one and done once you get the power ups for that level, BUT you had a handful like Treasure Trove Cove and Freeze-Easy Peak where you could do more later in the game. You didn’t need to go back to Clankers Cavern past the first time because you had everything you needed if you explored it well.

    I hope they tweak the Expanded Worlds part as well. I did a replay recently, and tried out to only play each world in their base-form. You could get all the way to Capital B, but I was a bit annoyed that you couldn't collect all Ghost-Writers this way, for example. I think the Ice Level was one of the ones where they were all hidden in the first part.

    Looking at the gameplay here my only main issue is collecting coins doesn’t give out a give enough *sparkle* effect when grabbed, they just sort of disappear into a puff of dust and doesn’t have the same satisfaction compared to Spyro gems and Sonics rings for example.

    I just really hope the ps4/ps5 version doesn’t have that annoying input lag like the original. PC was the only way I could play it for that reason.

    For me my issues were not feeling like there was enough precision in the walking controls, and I'll really only know if it feels right if they give a public demo, so I really hope they do

    I never played the first one. I remember hearing the negative comments and then I just ignored and forgot about it. I never played the side scroller issue because I figured if the first one wasn't good then ignore the second game. But looks like I need to change that

    As someone who’s too young to have played Banjo-Kazooie as a kid (btw my first console was a PS2, jsyk I’m not 12 lol), I was excited to play Yooka-Laylee when it came out, but I never really got that into it. Yooka-Replaylee seems like a massive upgrade and looks like exactly what I hoped the original was. Please let the minecart section be fixed…that part was terrible in the original lol.

    Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair is soooo much better than its predecessor here , which disappointed me a lot, due to its huge empty maps, somewhat woody controls and with useless enemies that literally were of no use and were not a danger. With this game, I'd say they redeemed themselves.

    I'll be honest, my "hype" isn't that big personally. I just have a high bar to meet for whether a remake is worth getting when I already own the original, and since I was one of the backers, I do.
    However, since I AM one of the backers, I would be eligible for the discount they've been teasing for this remake... Not a clue how much of a discount it is yet, but there is a world where I give them money Day 1 for the upgrade.

    Honestly I hate the idea of this as a "remaster". No, this is the game they promised us 9 and a half years ago and they finally bothered to actually deliver on that. It never should've taken a remaster/remake to get the product they told me I'd get.

    I'm generally quite tired of the trend of remasters and remakes instead of if new IPs, but this is one that I feel is definitely more justified than most given Yooka had some very glaring issues that brought the experience down
