Wait, the ARMY uses a flying drone??? I have to tell the Air Force immediately, they will not be happy
It's a reusable modular loitering munition ser
Its a rotary wing vehicle performing horizontal operation
USAF has an issue if stuff is flying too fast. Hence the cancellation of the AH-56 Cheyenne back in the day.
The Air Force seems to be ok with the Army using fixed wing UAVs. They would absolutely lose their shit if this was a manned aircraft, though.
What're they gonna do? Send emails?

imagine telling a WW1 doughboy or a soldier in the Continental Army about this stuff. mindblowing.
Animations look amazing, I can tell you guys are constantly improving. Well done!
The cavalry soldier pointing wojak was really funny 😂
This was the EXACT kind of video that I needed to see! I was wondering how different classes of UAS were used at the tactical level.
dude 2:37 cavalry contact report got me good lmao
Ha ha 😂
would've liked to briefly see how it compares to the Predator which is replaces and how it differs from the reaper in strike roles
The Army's Gray Eagle is similar to the Air Force's retired Predator, but with a different powerplant that they run with JP8 like the rest of the Army and different control software (and other differences).
The Reaper is a larger turboprop driven aircraft with higher speed, service ceiling, and double the munitions capacity. So the Reaper is superior for strike but in Army service the GE is sort of recon/surveillance first and strike second
@@BattleOrder appreciate your reply, may I ask where you learn all this stuff and your research methods? what are your favorite resources? Because USAF type factsheets are often quite minimal.
@@WinkelmanSM-3 I don't look into Air Force stuff all that often. For Army stuff they publish all of their manuals online (googling ATP + something, like "ATP aviation" will normally find something with good info in it). The Marines are sort of the same with their MCRP/MCWPs although I'm not sure about the air force. Manuals regarding the technicals of a specific platform, like the MQ-9 or RQ-7, would likely be CUI and thus not accessible to the public. Details on platforms like the Gray Eagles in public manuals are more general, non-technical and capability/planning-oriented
For this video a UAS warrant officer also volunteered to look over my script.
@@BattleOrder Makes sense you had someone look this over, everything was pretty on the nose
I believe I have to attract the attention of the audience to the amount of work put into these videos, even the example tactical naming of the AO detail futures are neat and intuitive...
Flew these bad lads for 8 years. Well put together video on what we do. Not a lot of people are aware of how capable this aircraft is.
Hi, I am trying to find out if the HUD data can be removed from the camera feed, or is it baked into the footage?
@@mingng3482there’s a section on the payload operators screen which he can use to minimize the HUD, we only do this when actively striking TGTs bc our footage is being pushed out on UVIDS and they try to keep things private, although in my opinion it’s kinda useless since we’re likely already been staring at the TGT for hours, which will show the exact 10 digit MGRS grid in the bottom right corner of the screen.
11:07 The patch for B/229th AVN is wrong. We wore the 916th SPT BDE patch, but the one in the video is the 7th ID patch.
16:29 Pretty much all AV companies do have flight operations sections, I was a 15P. But Gray Eagle companies are the only ones that have warrants doing flight ops with us as well, otherwise in rotary/fixed wing Army units it's just a handful of 15Ps that run the section.
Yeah! My grandpa showed me one of those from korea and when I saw it I was like "I don't think he was in the 229th AVN"
Fair enough, for some reason I thought B-229 was in 16th CAB rather than the 2916th but was wrong.
On the Flight Operations Sections, were those task organized or part of the company's MTOE? The MTOE/OTOEs I've seen for the assault helicopter and attack battalion for example list most of the 15Ps under the battalion S-3/TAC CP and don't mention a flight ops section in the companies (I don't have anything on fixed wing outside of the GE though)
@@BattleOrder I'm pretty sure the 15P positions were MTOE'd, but I also wasn't in any assault/attack units to speak for them specifically, if they are different. I needed a 4187 Personnel Action form sent up to BN to transfer to a deploying sister company who had an open 15P slot in their MTOE they needed to fill if that's indicative of anything. On the other hand another time I was tasked out to a different sister company to help their flt ops for a few months as well, but my leadership/CoC remained with my original company.
The Gray Eagle flight ops section make-up in your video is pretty spot-on though. Besides UAS I spent most of my time in a MEDEVAC company in garrison where it was at the minimum 5 15Ps: 1x15P30, 2x15P20, and 2x15P30.
Though yes, there were also a bunch of 15Ps banished to the shadow realm up at BN S-3 and HHC companies, doomed to never actually do flight ops lol. Almost all the actual flight ops work like radio comms, records management, flight gear inventory/sign-out, flying hours program, etc. was done at the company level, at least for garrison and my small company-sized deployment.
If a whole BN or above deployed together I could see 15Ps congregating together up at the BN flight ops level to keep everyone on the same page and aware of all the aircraft operating at a time. But in garrison each company is pretty much doing their own missions and sometimes each company is operating out of different locations, so it's easier to have flight ops at the company level instead of at a centralized BN flight ops.
What are the duties of the warrants in the Gray Eagle's flight ops section? I assume one of them is the Flight Ops OIC but I couldn't find much on it
@@BattleOrder I can't really speak on the specifics since I wasn't a warrant myself, but from what I remember the warrants would do things like coordinating with various agencies, receive taskings from other units and partner forces, work out flight scheduling and crew rest periods with the input of the platoon sergeants, and supervised all the active flights going on from inside the TOC.
From what I saw, there wasn't a whole lot of difference between the OIC and the other warrant that would be sitting next to them. They rotated on and off duty as OIC, and the other warrant was kind of there to relieve some of the workload when things got hectic. I guess it'd be more accurate to think of the OIC's role as more akin to a battle captain in responsibilities since it was a role they'd take on each shift rather than permanently be the OIC. I'm sure one of them was the "permanent OIC" on paper, probably the most experienced warrant, but it sure didn't feel like it in practice. Mainly because operations went on 24/7 and that single warrant couldn't be there 24/7 to manage operations continuously. From my personal experience, the 1st and 3rd most experienced warrants were together on one shift, while the 2nd most experienced would be on the other shift with an SP/IP NCO sitting next to the warrant to assist them. They'd brief each other on what's currently going on and anything else of importance that happened during their shift twice a day at each handover (noon & midnight) so they both could stay on the same page.
Though for the purposes of communicating with other units, all of them would call themselves the OIC since it got them more cred/respect to get the mission done. Turns out other units don't usually prioritize your requests if you announce yourself as an NCO or CW1 instead of OIC.
You should do a video explaining how Chinese special forces work. It’s a very undercovered subject
Your videos are always very informative and I love them they almost always teach me new things and I love that keep up the great work!
Great stuff ! Was looking for such a presentation for a long time.
Great video, very insightful.
I always love when a new battle order video shows up on my feed
Great breakdown, as always.
Great video, would be good to see one about the British Army Watchkeeper as well.
Army is also planning to equip Mq-1c with EA pod called MFEW ( if it does not get cancelled) and further spirals of JAGM could also increase range .
One way of potentially rectifying the runway problem is to buy Mojave but that would mean introduction of anktget UAV.
Great video. Particularly like the consideration between COIN and high intensity.
During high intensity NATO bomb everything into oblivion.
Very well done!
This channel is great.
GREAT VID
Noice UAV drones. Also like the Thumbnail 😂
I love the background music, pretty sure it's from 2010 Medal of Honor, which I used to play all the time.
will there be a video about the bundeswehr branch structure/organization like panzergrenadiertruppe, jägertruppe or something alike?
As a light industry heavy weapons company mountain humvees with toe Martin and 50 and Mk19we constantly worked as a hunter-killer team using Predators, Shadows and scanning eagles along with ravens launched from the company CP.
As a Gray eagle operator I’m actually impressed with how accurate this info is, I only clicked because I was looking forward to seeing how wrong this video was gonna be but was actually pleasantly surprised with the accuracy.
I would love to see a video on how US Forces work with and fit into the command structures of South Korea and Japan. I've always been interested on how that would work if the war in Korea turned hot or if China decided to start something. Who would be the authority in terms of operational planning and long term goals?
If there's any disagreement within the blocks of US allies, most of the time others just follow suit with the US. Probably a smart move when you consider the US record of numerous coups (even US-backed coups against governments set in place by the US)
In Korea it would technically all fall under United Nations command, but in practical reality the Eighth U.S. Army would be in charge on the ground and coordinate everyone.
5:48 Aren't rhe concept of Loyal Wingman supposedly will heavily rely on AI to become highly autonomous thus not adding a lot of additional tasks to its manned aircraft partner?
I would like to see such a video about Turkish army, they also actively use combat drones
As a 15W I giggled when I saw this video
First if all I love your content!
Second when I saw this video in my feed i was worried, but thank god whomever busted OPSEC gave way way outdated info.
Just to let you know, the government cancelled the shadow systems program around a month ago. I repair parts for the system and I had to stop part way through a repair on one of the systems.
Battle Order , can you make a vidio of the Northrop Grumman RQ-4 Global Hawk .
Love the Medal of Honor 2010 soundtrack, it slaps and fits the vieo well.
7:08 And I thought I had to hand wave the Coms relay cablity in my version of WW3... Where the enemy knocked out any and all sats in Earth's orbit then proceded to heavly jam the global from LEO... So the only way to comuncate was etheir by wires or getting really close to each other and have runners.

Seems like we are developing an over dependence on drones, especially with how our procurement process seems to be developing. For example, in talking with a USAF Master Sgt, the contract for the F-35 requires civilian contractors to conduct any repairs or higher level maintenance (I'm thinking depot level, forgot to get a specific). Seems like a significant oversight on part of the USAF.
those airborne wifi router would be nice if they have rocket assisted takeoff and can extend the range of existing quad drone
Curious if UAVs have any practical use in Air defense. Or if you could do a video on ADA systems as a whole.
The airforce might be working on something along those lines, I flew RQ-7Bs in the army and we had nothing that was intended for air defense, I mean you could lase a helicopter or a relatively slow moving fixed wing aircraft and hit it with a hellfire, but it's not really meant for that, and it would take a fair bit of skill to pull it off.
hey just asking you have covered almost every major army in the world will you cover something about india in the future given its relation with china and its relationship with our country ,also i heard they were going through some restructuring too
Good evening. Could you tell us about such a formation as a half-platoon? When was it used and when was it abandoned?
How does this channel not have double or triple the number of subs? The content and production are top notch.
Also, I'm writing this comment as a way to appease the Algorithm Gods!
Could you do a video about a pj team’s organisation?
The Grey Eagle has a very low thermal signature. I would be surprised if it needs to worry about MANPADS.
I think boatloads of small cheap drones are where the future is at. These big drones won’t last against an enemy with real air defenses and ubiquitous MANPAD distribution.
The cav scout being a soyjack killllled me
Scoutjack
5:47 to be fair that trick isn't loyal wingman and is more like the general being on the front not the pentagon... While loyal wing man is just like being flight/squadron or even wing lead another manned craft. Or atleast that is what I think the US airforce means by Loyal wingmen anyway.
This is common knowledge. Using drone in tandem with helicopters or fighter jets and especially artillery.
Could you do one on medical and logistics units? Would love to see some on them. Love your videos as always :)!
Here is a video on fuel logistics, which is more specific to fuel but the flow of stuff is similar at the tactical levels: ruclips.net/video/cgeVuwxOkAo/видео.html
And here is a video that talks about the types of logistics units at different levels: ruclips.net/video/scbJZjQncqE/видео.html

Looks like the only major downside is that it is fixed wing and needs a runway, and thus much more infrastructure than any of the other Army's regular air assets.
I imagine a rotary Wing replacement, like an upgraded fire Scout or something, that can use all the same operating facilities as Apaches, Blackhawks, etc would be a major enabler
A platform like that would likely sacrifice a lot of what the Gray Eagle has going for it (endurance and payload)
All it requires is more Engeneer assets to set up air fields.
this is the main reason why the army has more RQ-7 Shadow units down to the brigade level and directly attached to Helicopter attack squadrons. The Shadows are able to set up on ad hoc or hastily built runways ranging from a simple flat piece of dirt or an unused road, and even in emergency situations when you dont care about the safe recovery of the aircraft, you can setup the catapault launcher anywhere. Several companies and the army are also looking into development of VTOL systems like Jump 20 and Nightstalker that shrink the launch and recovery footprint even smaller.
That recce unit sure looks familiar 🤣🤣
“Mini van for scale” we will use anything but the metric system
awesome video, im going to your local chinese police station......
jokes aside i learned a lot i didnt think helicopter were thiis optimal when targetting i thought it was a uav video feed and thats it
I didn't see an ordnance section in the organization (to load/store/maintain the Hellfire missiles)
The Class III/V Section mentioned at 15:33 does ordnance. The forklifts are the same ones used by ammunition transfer holding points
Combat Engineers need a drone
Why not put wings on the Hellfire missiles and fly it like a drone to the target area and give it autonomy to seek and destroy targets.
Should've used the Toyota Corolla as the standard unit of measurement.
8:28 Nice
You got me
why does the grey eagle need such a long and well built runway for its operations?
Because it is quite large.
It is bigger than a minivan
👍
Is there an electronic warfare version of the Grey Eagle?
It can carry a jamming pod, but the program to procure one has been bumpy defensescoop.com/2022/08/24/after-zeroing-out-procurement-army-now-finding-aerial-jammer-to-be-critical-enabler-for-multi-domain-operations/
@@BattleOrder EW seems to be back in fashion because Ukraine. Maybe it will get funded.
@@BattleOrderwhat are the benefits of having purpose built ew warfare grey eagles?
@@Red-238 As far as I know for the given role, not much? I'm no expert on that topic but as recon/surveillence/strike are more common capabilities needed at the division-level, a dedicated EW fixed-wing UAS would almost certainly be exclusive to echelon above division (USASOC/INSOC). And if a good enough effect can be achieved with a pod rather than a whole new air frame, which would only have a small number in service due to its niche-ness, that seems like the better option
Drone operator: "Are those three pixels the target?"
Operator 2: "I don't know, I can't see anything!"
Commanding officer: "Well what else could it be? Send it!"
Drone operator: "Yes sir!"
Kids in school bus: 💀💀💀
can it carry the new AGM-179JAGM which replaces the hellfire?
That is the intention
When you have too many fixed wing Air Force, that your smallest fixed wing Air Force is bigger than most countries' entire Air Force.
ive always wondered why these big drones are not outfitted with a bunch of switchblades it seems like its never even been attempted as far as i know
Air launched effects could be something approaching that although perhaps more versatile
The army has had issues with switch blades in places like syria, where russian and turkish EW can degrade the gps and data links on the small loiter munitions
@@jonahhekmatyar Interesting i never heard of that happening though i also havnt done any research on switchblade other than with ukraine but i guess i should have been a bit more clear and said something similar to switchblade instead of switchblade itself it seem really op to have a big drone drop smaller loiter munitions even if its like a glider that can turn with a warhead it could carry what i assume alot more than the 2 or 4 hellfires so more targets to attack and possible lighter for more endurance
Why are the operators in little separate buildings?
The ground control station in use can only seat 3 operators at a time, truck mounted or placed on flat ground
I liked the thumbnail where the America country ball was riding on the drone to battle, why did you change it 😢😢😢
Sometimes we can't follow out hearts
This could be outdated but I think if you change the thumbnail a but after you upload a video the video gets boosted in the algorithm I've seen some other creator do the same
What is the best RTT game I can get
Fun fact : machines like these are also the reason why A-10 Warthog is getting retired with no real replacement. Apache + Grey eagle combo can pretty much do everything A-10 could and better plus cheaper......hilariously thats also why Air force is complaining and being all bitchy about it (whole drama about A-10 is also because of it) because Air force consider this ''their job'' and dont like it that Army is taking it away from them since they dont have to use Air force planes anymore lol (Apache and Grey eagle count under to Army branch, not Air force branch)
Im curious, how come the Army doesn't just use Mq-9 Reaper's?
Air Force asset
Please do a video on all carrier strike group formations...
Please don't just do America give examples from others
denver would do some shit like that
Do have a love for drone tech. We can see anywhere we want on earth with satellites, and kill anywhere with missiles. But not every little mission needs the expense of our big toys so thats were drones come in. They can't easily take out massive targets but you don't need them to. Just using them for the small things that need small support. I see them as the military version of dollar store warfare. Like how you wouldn't deploy a swat team to take down every robber you don't need the big toys for every little mission.
Tha size of the US military is off the scale

This combined with Ukrainian Ground Forces would be good fun.

Wow. Thanks. What an interesting video with lots of useful comments and insight.
I do wish we could provide these and apaches to Ukraine. I understand the risks but I think they could make it work
Of course there will be losses but Russia ain't leaving willingly. They need a Tyson like punch to the face
I'd also hope for a Tyson-like punch to the balls in addition to the one in the face!

We put drones on your drones so your drone can use drones when it's too dangerous for the main drone.
This is seriously impressive. These would do wonders for Ukraine if F16s are provided.

We here the "helicopters are useless in a modern battlefield hur dirt" from the same "tanks are useless now cuz of anti tank missiles" very simple minded people. We've had manpads since the 70s. And before then in WW2 CAS planes were vulnerable to widely available heavy machine guns.
So… what about shorad?
Mentioned multiple times in the video
AH-64 sounds risky, expensive and irrelevant. the drone can do all the work
Yes, for sure it is very effective against religious fanatics! 😂
Outdated info... Many countries have drones that can laser mark targets which can be hit by missiles, even artillary ammo. Turkey has used this extensively in libya, syria and Armenian-Azerbaijan war. Even 500lb mk 82 dumb bomb can be dropped over 100km with attached wings that guide bomb to laser mark.
And? Are you commenting on my videos about infantry stuff being like “they invented the machine gun 120 years ago why are you talking about it”
The Gray Eagle is an unmanned drone that was designed for a more civilized time. The fact of the matter is that MQ-9s, TB2's, etc.and other larger UAVs are only capable of operating against actors without the ability to detect and intercept larger UAVs. Otherwise the Reaper drone is way too easy to spot and eliminate. It's "stealth" capabilities are really just the fact that it is hard. to see with the naked eye because it flys so high, on a radar screen they are seen as clear as day. So as long as the U.S. keeps picking fights with goat herders in remote mountain ranges (so brave) then the MQ-9 is still a relevant weapons platform. If the US ever finds itself in symmetric warfare, they will lose MQ-9s at an unsustainable rate if they use them the same way they do in Afghanistan and Iraq, because replenishment for such large drones is way harder. Much like how Ukraine touted the early use of TB2s during the early days on the 2022 invasion, but ever since then the TB2 has been relegated to deep defensive surveillance well behind the frontline safe from Russian air defense.
Lots of video evidence of MQ9s getting shot down in the Middle East and Africa, with fairly dated anti air weaponry. The Russian equivalent to the MQ-9 in terms of surveillance would be the Orlan-10, which is way smaller and infinitely more expendable. Of course the Orlan doesn't have a weapons platform itself, it's still capable of sending real time targeting data to artillery and nearby Lancet drones. This is the same Orlan-10 that had the Canon DSLR camera for optics and an empty Aquafina water bottle for a gas tank. As always the difference in military philosophy between the East which prioritizes ruthless efficiency, as opposed to the West which seemingly prioritizes having the singular most powerful and capable weapons platform, with little regard for manufacturing cost or replenishment capabilities.
Main reason for those philosophy is absence of social and economical progress. On East human life costs nothing for authority/business. While western ppl believe in "one day i will become millionaire" dream, eastern ppl believe in "one day i will become emperor/warlord/commander" dream
The US army watching this video: interesting. What if instead of all that stuff we just blew up weddings lol
