I was in prison ministry this weekend. I told a group of inmates that God created us in His image so that He could have someone who understood His love and would be His friends. Because we were created in His image, He gave us the ability to choose to accept Him or reject Him. If we accept Him we can walk with Him daily like He did with Adam and Eve. If we reject Him He still left the door open for us to come back through the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross. One of the men said, "but what if we can't accept Him?" I asked him, "Why not." He said he wants to but can't because he is weak and keeps doing things that make him unworthy and miserable. He hates himself because of his sins and weakness and can't get over it. I talked with him a long time and told him Jesus knows his weakness and loves him anyway and has made a way for him. Then the discussion time was done and it was time for the whole group to sing some songs. This was the first song we song. I kept pointing to the screen when we sang the lyrics, " "All who are thirsty, all who are weak, come to the fountain. Dip your heart in the stream of life. Let the pain and the sorrow be washed away in the waves of His mercy." About the third time we sung those words, he cried out, "Now I see it! I understand!" He was a new man for the rest of the weekend. Full of joy in the Lord. We meet again, every Thursday. Pray for him in his new walk with the Lord.

"Deep calls to deep at the sound of Your waterfalls; All Your breakers and Your waves have rolled over me." The idea is something that extends and is all encompassing, i.e from ocean to ocean or from sea to sea. A similar idea is conveyed in a stanza from America the Beautiful that goes "...from sea to shining sea." The waves of the Lord's mercy are all encompassing just as deep cries out to deep, or from deep to deep.
What "deep to deep" when you are in the midst of tragedy is that only people who have experienced the depth of despair you are experiencing can appreciate what you are feeling....deep calls out looking for a response from other 'deep' souls who can relate . not for skipping stones across the surface of an issue. I recently experienced God showing how much He understands my particular situation and I broke down in amazement and gratitude. I then discovered this song...I have played it for myself at least fifty times.
