  • Digital Spaces was an innovative test bed for digital cultural engagement in Coventry, led by Coventry Library Service in partnership with The Space, with funding from Arts Council England and the British Film Institute, and support from the BBC, Libraries Connected and MACE (Media Archive for Central England).
The programme included making Virtual Reality and Immersive Audio available to all, digital arts projects run from branch libraries and a training programme for library staff. The focus was on digital inclusion, creating experiences and opportunities with appeal to a wide audience demographic.

This online forum was open to anyone in a library team interested in offering VR or other digital culture to their users, and will be particularly useful to service leads who might be thinking about developing place-based digital partnership programmes.
We start with Service Development Manager Dave Lloyd and Fiona Morris, CEO and Creative Director of The Space to discuss the thinking behind Digital Spaces. Then the team who designed the VR offer and set up some of the community based projects reflect on their experiences and offer some practical insights. To finish, Isobel Hunter - Chief Executive of Libraries Connected - and Luke Burton - Director, Libraries - Arts Council England - join Dave and Fiona to consider wider ambition for digital culture in libraries, and what the next steps could look like.
