The thing you and the people who agree with your point of reaching over and pressing the green buttons don't realise is that the telephone is for ringing up the signalman and asking when the next train is if you can't see a dot matrix display. So it isn't useless after all
Of course, the point made though, is that one wouldn't need to use the phone to operate the crossing, what with this not being a busy line either. Only a few weeks after this video, additional fencing was constructed, and the buttons were moved further into the crossing.
oh its not a busy line? they probably moved the buttons down further after watching your video of saw it on cctv
Never rely on a dot matrix display (or timetable) to check a line is clear. These sources will not tell you if there is a freight train, light locomotive or engineering train coming, or is the line is under a possession where engineering traffic could appear at any time. These sources also might not show empty coaching stock moves.
If the instructions are to contact the signaller, do so. Level crossings are safe of properly used, but failing to contact the signaller when requested to do so defeats the safety precautions for safe use of the crossing.
4:55 This was built and is maintained by Network Rail.
East Midlands Trains has nothing to do with this crossing
1:37 that's the only spot where there's anti-trespass strips!
They should put more anti-trespass strips, and just put red and green lights with alarms!
I like when his voice goes high pitched
Health and safety gone mad. As long as someone uses their brains and look for trains, their shouldn't be a problem. Lol :)
Great video! Who was holding the gate for you?
Watched this when it was first uploaded and found it funny with the useless features. A telephone on a crossing with working green knobs. Maybe they will removed the phones. Or if the green button fails to work. Watched it again and it's still funny
2:00 “Oh look the lock doesn’t work”

Ahh, memories...
Why the need for the phoning up? This is utter nonsense! A red/green light would be much easier!
Agreed.
Worst comes to worst, you can walk around the gate. This reminds me of my job in Illinois. Of course, we are a small division of a big British corporation (the same one which owns M_______'s groceries), but no matter, enough useless nonsense here in America too.
OH LOOK THE LOCK DOESN'T WORK *USEFUL*
yeah that is right, they should remove the public telephones and keep the green buttons.
Looks like one that needs upgrading or if that’s not feasible then it needs closing.
What if you can't reach the noob then you have to use the phone too if
I can understand why a crossing like this remains in use but if you're supposed to phone the signaller the exit plungers need to be inaccessible "wrong side". If they made it Phone signaller if... Then it would make more sense.
That was eventually corrected.
The telephone is for extra safety.
Particularly because the crossing is really supposed to be for people who can't use a footbridge, e.g. wheelchair/pram/trolley users, who are at real risk of having their wheels trapped... if you're able to reach over and have the thought to do so, then you're unlikely to be at risk...
too funny when he says in high voice''to use station crossing use phone'' LOL FABE'S IS SOOOOOOOOOOO FUNNY
*To use station crossing use phone*
TO RELEASE GATE PRESS GREEN BUTTON
Good video
Thanks
0:55 & 2: 06 THAT WAS A GOOD IMPRESSION OF ALAN CARR 😅😊 WELL DONE
You can just walk around it lol you don’t even need to to press the button lil
This crossing makes no sense...
If you don't use the footbridge and use the Crossing properly you can just miss a train
Some people are wheelchair users.
@@Isochest: Seems to be the point that almost all the comments here have missed - that crossing isn't for you, you're meant to use that footbridge, the crossing is for those who can't, who, as before, almost certainly have wheels, and very likely the type that can get stuck, hence why the instruction to phone to cross.
@@fetchstixRHD Hard using a footbridge when you push a wheelchair
@@Isochest: That's pretty much my point 😉
It is strange
''pants''' omg
the one on the other side walking back don't even need the button you could just bent YOUR arm around the bar
Its a useless system to begin with.
well yes, why not do like Dawlish station has they have a crossing with the lights if there on its safe to use if the lights go of means a train is close and approaching with a wooden gate you can open and easy to cross with no fuss apart from needing to ask staff inless its out of hours
It's been changed since, more fencing has been added, and the buttons are further away
#pissoffsleaford
The designers are knob heads.
The designers are green buttons, knobs. 😅
